Thankyou so much Chris for teaching me how to break a mans jaw with the palm of my hand, showing me the best place to stab a man with a pen, what to do if your the victim of road rage and of course how to temporaly blind someone with hairspray. Im sure they will come in useful some day.

Surely useful things for a potential criminal profiler to know about? Chris is on UK Channel 5 at 19.15 tonight, The Gadget Show, assessing binoculars apparently, very SAS indeed.

>>By camban

Wel I now know which type of binoculars to use when trying to read a mans t-shirt from 75 metres away. My life is complete ;)

Hi all, don't think I've posted on this board before, so Hello! :-)
I normally loiter on the AM board, but my groupie tendancies aren't restricted to AM, oh no, they extend to CR and DF too. So I was thrilled to see Mr Ryan in Waterstones today, doing a book signing. He looked gorgeous, wearing a dark suit and had a bit of a beard going on. Oh and he wore glasses for the actual signings, which I thought looked really cute!
Sorry, this is all useless information, but I just had to share it!

Anyone had the new Chris Ryan non fiction book on the sas

>>By ValleyBoy

Ryan's never written non-fiction, not even in his account of the B20 mission. He does have the "Deadly Fighting Skills of the SAS" or whatever it's called, which is technically non-fiction though it caters to wankers who live in a fantasy world in which they'll defend themselves with techniques learned from a Chris Ryan book.
If you mean the oh-so-creatively titled, "Who Dares, Wins," I'm pretty sure that's fiction based on Amazon description.
If you want a real "inside the SAS" book, read "Immediate Action" or "Soldier I."
Ryan's full of shit, and ever since he made the outrageous claims he did about knifing Iraqis in the dark, no one has taken him seriously. He's basically Bear Grylls without the charm.
And yes, he escaped a war zone on foot, walking hundreds of miles, facing hypothermia, etc...Certainly impressive. Doesn't mean he gets to claim whatever he wants and we just accept it, though.
Also, the sex scenes in his "books" are unnecessary and revolting. His idea of foreplay is grabbing a woman's crotch, and he makes that clear in his "romantic" passages. I would bet any, ANY amount of money, that Andy McNab has pulled more chicks than Ryan ever could or will, even though Ryan might technically be better looking. McNab doesn't feel the need to brag like Ryan and Falconer do when it comes to getting play from the ladies.
Nothing wrong with reading Chris Ryan, but when you're ready for a better author check out Andy McNab.

NO there was a new non fiction printed here a few weeks ago about special forces around the world written by Chris Ryan

>>By ValleyBoy

Have to agree to a certain extent with 1690 but wouldn't be so disparaging about him, just that some of the facts mentioned ring true. VB, there is another writer with the Ryan name who writes pseudo-SF stuff, could be him. Anyhow, the real Mr. Ryan is back on the telly with a series on Virgin 1 "Ultimate Forces" which embeds him with active units around the world. Last week it was the Colombian anti-drug forces raiding bits of jungle, quite interesting.

Sorry folks, I was tired of the McNab/Ryan forums being dead, and unfortunately sometimes it's easier to get a conversation going again by saying something crazy.
I do prefer McNab to Ryan, and I stand by my statement that he did not, in fact, knife Iraqis in the dark, but really I love Ryan, Falconer, "Soldier I," and most of the other ex-Forces lads who've written books.
Glad to see some discussion going!

Also, Cam is right, there's another Ryan who writes about that stuff.
