Tough??!! Me??! Noooo..Loop the friggin loop more like! ......and today I registered for the four day Nijmegen Marches...If I get a place this will mean marching 100 miles over four days in July in Holland!!!!! arghhhhhh! I have also today bought my plane tickets so I hope I do get allocated a place!
I am doing this event as part of my fundraising for the South Atlantic Medal Association -SAMA(wales) and any donations I get will help towards costs of the 25th anniversary events planned both in Wales and in the Falklands during 2007.
I understand that at present the RAF flies a couple of half empty planes each week to the Falklands Islands yet charges around £1,400 a time to each veteran who wishes to re visit the Islands where his comrades lost their lives! This seems pretty shoddy to me especially as the planes are going there anyway, and many Falklands Vets are disabled and on a low income due to injuries sustained during the War. It is my aim to raise at least £1,400 to send one of the SAMA (wales) Falklands War Veterans over on a memorial trip to the Falklands in 2007. Once SAMA has the charitable status that it's applied for I will open an online direct donation page and let you know the URL. In the meantime if you wish to donate please do so by contacting their fundraising Officer chrisatsamawales@hotmail.com (marking the donation 'Trekker') Will you or your organisation also commit to raising £1,400 to send yet another Falklands Veteran back in 2007? Thankyou peeps

To replace the yahoo group that got poofed... Only if you're interested if you're not look away now! Bethan

I’m sorry. I am really very sorry for troubling you all with my intentions for starting another yahoo group. I know it can be stressful when you feel others are against you but that really isn’t the intention; after all I’m just a civvie who reads. I like books, I specifically like thrillers, and I hope that the group may in time attract a group of like-minded people who want to discuss those topics in one place by whatever author they choose to touch down on. If that’s not for you no worries. (Including the man himself – phew got him in there just in time). I have no desire or interest in spending my internet time writing about gnooks or any of its fellow gnookers or even the other side of the argument. I’m sorry for this disappointment, but if you need a quick fix or a giggle, I see allreaders is doing a roaring trade in veiled insults at the moment. Bethan

Winning Grampian Police video @ http://www.grampian.police.uk/ output/print-version.cfm?content_refno=1051
And you know why it won? 'It's Your Choice' is a resource which includes a 20 minute film presented by Chris Ryan... 'Nuff said (in a heavily biased tone of voice!!)
>>By B.A.B.E.S
I finally read "The Watchman," and it's freaking great! Kept me up til the wee hours as I literally couldn't put it down. It's funny, I didn't think "The One That Got Away" was nearly as enjoyable a read as McNab's "B20," but "Watchman" rivals any thriller I've ever read.
>>By Just Jon
JJ I totally I agree I loved the watchman - personally think that one's better than any of the McNab fiction (sssh don't tell!) altho' I still laugh at his visit to the Isle of Lesbos..... (geddit?)
But oh no Mr Ryan's got RSI or something because blackout isn't coming out til September now according to amazon <big sigh>. What will this babe read now?????? Beth.

June 17th 10pm the satellite channel Sky Mix is repeating "Terror Alert" with CR. Did anyone see it first time round? Apparently he's doing a bit of acting in it. Should be interesting to see!
>>By fluttergirl
But he 'did a bit of acting' in Ultimate Force, not very impressive, much better at being himself it seems.
>>By camban
He was also in the film of "the one that got away" only a quick cameo though.
>>By Psicosis
I've just watched Ultimate Force & have to admit that CR is not much of an actor. I thought he would be great considering he's playing a SAS guy. It should have been Oscar material. When I saw him on Fifth Gear last year being himself he was much more charismatic. Still he is a fantastic writer and I'm really looking forward to reading " Blackout "

Trekker, you seem to have disappeared - could you contact me - details on profile! :-)

"How Not To Die"...how very BABES...
Another one in the long line of quizzes that appear every time Mr Ryan has a TV show on the go...
http://www.skyone.co.uk/quiz/ pgequiz.aspx?qid=42&pid=55
Anyway, I missed it...so aside from looking lovely, was there anything of use Bri?
>>By B.A.B.E.S
If you try hard it's possible to get an impressive... "Your survival instincts, erm, stink."
How Not To Die? Be chunky, like Ray Mears...
>>By B.A.B.E.S
Oh sheesh, what a lousy test !!!! My result was that I had 'common sense' ?!?!?!? Really ??? Then where did I put it ?? ;-)
JK, nice one BABES :-)
>>By Lynn
Jesus, has anyone noticed that Chris has the gayest opening post on gnooks? Who the fuck wrote that? Please tell me it wasn't one of the BABES, or Lynn, or anyone else I consider a fully-functioning adult. Maybe it's meant to be funny--and maybe Chris doesn't slather his body in baby oil before flexing for the BBC. God, I want to cry. He's a really good writer, and yet people who google and see "hero as a man, god as a writer" will assume that his fans are brain-dead homos. Whoever wrote that, you're gonna burn in that special circle of Hell where the guy who said "Andy McNab is the best writer I've ever read" lives.
>>By Just Jon
Any comments on 'Blackout' yet? 'nough to say he hasn't sacked his crappy editor yet, good yarn but shame about the continuity errors.
Oh Jon, you are so butch, must be that 'tache.

Review of Blackout from the Daily Mirror...
http://www.thewatchmeman.co.uk /books/bookReview.asp? bookReviewID=19
Have asked CR's publisher if we can have a Q&A, will let you all know what the response is in due course.
As for "How Not To Die", I'm still giving considerable thought to how I would react if I woke up in the middle of the night and found Chris Ryan, dressed completely in black and sporting a balaclava, leaning over my bed, as did one female "member of the public". In fact, I'm probably giving it far too much thought...
>>By Lisle45
Don't get that latter reference Lisle, have I missed something? Are you saying he broke into a woman's bedroom? How would you know it was him if he had a balaclava on? Surely the first instinct would be to scream quite loudly? Still, everyone has to have a fantasy at times of need I suppose.
>>By camban
I've just finished Blackout and enjoyed reading it although i dont think its his best book but its still a great read.
>>By Psicosis
Lisle...added another Blackout review to your site but...doh...forgot to format the paragraphs...sorry!! http://www.thewatchmeman.co.uk/ books/bookReview.asp?bookReviewID=20
"...Chris Ryan, dressed completely in black and sporting a balaclava, leaning over my bed...". Damn!! missed that one!! Only saw a bit of last nights which had Chris on a SAGA minibus tour sat in front of a load of what looked like laundry bags. I think that's waht saved him when they crashed... But I do hope it was a body double for the swimsuit scenes coz he's looking a little chunky...time for some slim 'n fast action I reckon...
The Times also had some stuff about HNTD...some excerpts here... "The presence of Ryan, now a "survival expert" who also writes thrillers that provide such handy hints as the depth of water required to drown a man, is more proof that the SAS has become the British Army's most successful brand. Once a no-logo product useful for politically delicate insurgencies, it's now been franchised into books, films, video games and television endurance shows for fitness freaks and combat fantasists."
"But the regiment's reputation for near-certifiable levels of testosterone kept making How Not to Die faintly ludicrous. Ryan announced that the house was "over a mile from the nearest road" in a tone suggesting hostile jungle terrain. When he advised us to be vigilant while walking home it was as if we were behind enemy lines."
'Faintly ludicrous' just about said it all...like the guy who said he wouldn't attempt anything like hill walking again without having taken a survival course... Whatever happened to common-sense?
Still, good to see our favourite man in visual media again. Aesthetic value always supplements the literary quite well I find...which brings me back to Chris Ryan dressed in black leaning over my bed...ha ha ha
>>By B.A.B.E.S
Doh! (again)...will check your site Lisle before posting newspaper stuff here!! The rest of you will already have read The Times stuff there...oops!!
keeping this board busy tho' ;-)

"...Chris Ryan, dressed completely in black and sporting a balaclava, leaning over my bed..."
Good on Cam, how can you tell it was Chris.... ?? Or eerrr.. maybe the gold shines through the black pants? ;-) Christ, this one is so old..but somehow it still comes up in thoughts. I blame you B.A.B.E.S.!!! How can I ever think of CR in a serious manner when the goldiepants keep popping up in mind.
Ok, this is perhaps just about being bitter for not receiving Sky ;-)
