Hey...

Ive seen that too but it is says it is being released on paperback...

What happened to the hardback first

>>By Yes-Man   (Tuesday, 13 Jan 2004 12:40)

No idea about the hard back but this is what www.bookinformation.co.uk says about the new one. If it's road rage why is there a train on the front?

"The Increment is a secret SAS assassination squad going around killing ex-soldiers during a long, hot summer of road rage incidents."

>>By Bethan   (Tuesday, 13 Jan 2004 12:59)

Does no-one care? Why is it still raining? Is it a train? Why am I so bored?

>>By Bethan   (Thursday, 15 Jan 2004 18:12)

Is it a train?

A car in disguise. No. It's a car transporter on tracks.

Guessing it could be a Euro Express! Road Rage gone Continental!

Publishers look to be keeping this one close to their chests.

>>By readit   (Thursday, 15 Jan 2004 21:25)

The cover design for The Increment was modelled on this...
http://www.thewoodentoyemporium.co.uk/
trains/1162_locoset.htm
with a little bit of pyrotechnic play-doh thrown in...least that's what they always told me they were playing with.

The busy man's got one of his Alpha Force series due out the same time...

Early summer...prime time for some interviews methinks...

>>By bikergirl   (Friday, 16 Jan 2004 11:41)

"car transporter on tracks"

Aha, that's it. Well that's what I'm going with anyway, sounds better than train and I have a thing against train spotters, no one spots car transporters do they?

bg - alpha force too? He definitely works too hard, just like me ha ha.....

>>By Bethan   (Friday, 16 Jan 2004 12:36)

Top marks for the What Not to Wear special - sore ribs from laughing.
what about this book The Excrement?

The Increment is SAS seconded to SIS no?
They usually train in Pontrilas?

I dunno, my heads full of rubbish.

>>By Nomad   (Friday, 16 Jan 2004 13:07)

Never mind Nomad that's what happens looking to much at those "birds"

>>By borisette   (Friday, 16 Jan 2004 22:26)

Good canooing on stretches of the Wye.

My brain is gone to freeze frame. Too much piste for one day. Yawn. Zzzzzzzzzz.

>>By readit   (Saturday, 17 Jan 2004 02:06)

The Excrement - might leave that one to you Nomad!

>>By Bethan   (Saturday, 17 Jan 2004 14:04)

>>By Shoot-To-Kill   (Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004 17:19)

Hello to you S2K...

Despatch a hunter force immediately to obtain more of CR's novels. Highly recommended is The Watchman...

>>By bikergirl   (Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004 18:27)

This will probably be deleted but while checking my book order this popped out to say hello on amazon. Ends explosively, so he shoots his load then ha ha. Sorry!

"Matt Browning returns in this gripping new novel from bestselling author Chris Ryan. It is a long, hot summer and the country is suffering an epidemic of road rage. What isn't making the news headlines, though, is that the SAS's secret assassination squad, the Increment, is killing ex-soldiers. These two strands of violence become ever more tightly intertwined as Matt is drawn into an adventure that takes him to Russia and ends explosively in the UK. "

>>By Bethan   (Wednesday, 28 Jan 2004 14:48)

If it's Matt Browning we can expect plenty of...ummm...action then, can't we? In the style of..."...you'll be overcome with emotion and then..." [1]
Note to Mr Ryan...I'm (still) available for proof-reading to avoid those spelling mistakes and continuity errors that appeared in Greed...

In an old interview with McNab I ran into this:
" (...) 'The One That Got Away'. It's not his fault, he (CR) didn't even write it, it's just the way this business is"

So who did?

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 3 Feb 2004 13:46)

Judging by the weird books down the side panel maybe any of these were the ghost writer and they want their bit of publicity....

>>By Bethan   (Tuesday, 3 Feb 2004 15:17)

Is Greed out on paperback?????

>>By christina   (Tuesday, 3 Feb 2004 19:17)

I've only seen Greed in paper back but it is larger than average paperbacks more the size of a hardback.

>>By Psicosis   (Tuesday, 3 Feb 2004 19:26)

christina...
I think the standard size paperback is due out in June...no doubt all leading supermarkets will be knocking it out at half price within days.

Greed

Paperback 288 pages (3 June, 2004)

>>By bikergirl   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 14:07)

reason no hard back, is cos they wouldn't sell, too expensive, so jump straight to cheap paperback.
McNab and Ryan both use ghostwriters, not very literate, either of them, in the Regiment the book is known as "The one that RAN away"
and there was no real torture, McNab (mitch) talks about teeth being knocked out, he was smiling with a full set of teeth when he arrived back in Hereford
they are both using their dead comrades and others stories to make money, they are two of the most hated men in Hereford

>>By a rose by any other   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 00:56)

My goodness, Rose...
What a big axe you have! But just a friendly little whisper between you and me: It's a bit dicey, don't you think, pontificating on details written in books that you yourself have admittedly not read? Tread a little lighter, okay? Trigger fingers can be very twitchy around here... :o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 15:29)

"they are two of the most hated men in Hereford"
Ah well, they've got the money, the rest of Hereford hasn't, a bit of a nah nah nah nah nah, sticks and stones moment that one.

>>By Bethan   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 16:55)

...and so subjective...really...I mean...

a) two of the most hated - who else are most hated??

b) most hated - most hated implies there are hated too - if they all hate each other - what level are we talking about here??

c) most hated men - are there women who are hated? perhaps even more hated??

d) men in Hereford - are they HATED (by people) in Hereford?? Or are they (themselves) IN Hereford?? If they're not IN Hereford is it even true??

e) if they are hated IN Hereford - what about outside Hereford??

f) does Hereford count?? How many citizens does Hereford have??
And in comparison to booksales?? Would those buyers even care?

and so on and so on...
pffff - this is exhausting

>>By Lynn   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 20:58)

Oh Lynn you've made my mind spin, all that thinking....

>>By Bethan   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 09:31)

wow Lynn, dont you have a job!!!
i imagine lots of people are disliked in Hereford, men and women, unless it is utopia, i think the boys who write this stuff dont really care about their standing in Hereford, they can live in their ivory towers and spend lots of dosh. I do actually know some of these guys, and they are surrounded by drooling groupies and "friends" hanging onto their coat tails. I feel sorry for them in some ways, just look at thier personal lives, very sad. I would love to see a regiment guy, with a marriage that has lasted over 20 years, sadly so, so few manage that, hey even 10 years would be something! They need lots of counselling etc, the drink, womanising and suicide, it is such a shame. I dont blame the guys who take the money for putting their names to these books, most people will sell their souls if the price is right, they found the right price, peace to them.

>>By dhobi queen   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 14:34)

< wow Lynn, dont you have a job!!!
Of course not!

< I do actually know some of these guys
Of course!

>>By Lynn   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 17:22)

DQ...
Seeing as..."I do actually know some of these guys" and..."my son is doing project for A level psychology, and was looking for some facts on the SAS suicides"
Why didn't you ask some of those that you know? Surely they have the facts. Or could at least tell you wehre to go (to get the facts).

As for marriages...20 years is quite something in 'real' life too. The statistics are well known...so they enter into it with eyes wide open (blinded by love?). If it says 'do not touch', what do you want to do?

>>By bikergirl   (Saturday, 7 Feb 2004 16:43)

"surrounded by drooling groupies"
Sounds like the kind of life most men would kill for..... Is that your gun or are you just pleased to see me? Ha ha.

>>By Bethan   (Saturday, 7 Feb 2004 17:25)

"I do actually know some of these guys"
As "friend" or "groupie". Sorry I couldn't resist, it was too obvious...

>>By Bethan   (Saturday, 7 Feb 2004 17:35)

Hey, Bethan!
You forgot to add: Mmoooowwaahahahahah... :o)
