Oh my, now I'm lifting our Chris to page 18 - feel like the privilige should belong to some other than me, but hey... the One That Got There First is what counts yeh?

Filming has now finished and Chris is currently shooting a new series for Sky One.

"It's completely different as there is acting involved," he said. "It's called Terror Alert and it's six programmes of different scenarios, such as a nuclear bomb going off, or a dirty bomb or a mass blackout or a killer virus. It's about how we would react in society to that. It's like a `factional' type of programme.

"It's been really demanding, but rewarding. I've been fortunate enough to be able to get into this TV stuff."

It's that factional word again..... that usually means trouble! Haven't they already done this on bbc2 though?

Terror Alert, Scream Films drama-doc for Sky One 6 x 1 hr - Chris Ryan presents an urban survival guide on man made disasters.
?starts on the 29th July?
He explores the likelihood of ELEs (Extinction Level Events)...surely then no urban susrvival guide necessary?

BBC2 did this one:
If... the lights go out
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/
programmes/if/3487048.stm

And Panorama did this:
London under attack
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/
programmes/panorama/3686201.stm

I'm going back a couple of years but the BBC did do a docu thing on a smallpox outbreak, it was very good and very realistic, the immediate aftermath etc. There was a series this year too on disasters but only saw the plane crash over london one.

Urban survival? Here's seeing the sales of baked beans and duck tape going through the roof after that then. Scientist's advice? Don't breathe it in and you'll be fine!

>>By Bethan   (Tuesday, 13 Jul 2004 20:20)

Just to clarify the advice was sarcastic, please breathe or you'll die anyway.

It's for charidee...Team F-Troop?

Next week CR sets the tough families a house fire scenario. So...fire...firemen... ;-)

Has our cute-cheek-squeezing CR done some acting in the past ??

Well i found his name mentioned in one of Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean series : Back to school mr. Bean

<Mr Bean drills some cadets; attends the open-day of an adult education college; gets a rare stamp stuck on his forehead; becomes over-enthusiastic in the chemistry and judo demonstrations; stumbles across a nude model in the Life Class; and manages to lose his trousers.>

cast :
Rowan ATkinson
Chris Ryan
.............

I wonder ???

>>By borisette   (Tuesday, 27 Jul 2004 17:54)

Well Bo I don't know, but didn't he have an acting part in Ultimate Force? There's also a porn star CR that comes up regularly (probably should re-think that!!) if you google search for CR's books.

For those UK based, sky one last night advertised the terror thingy starts Thursday at 9pm (sky one obviously). I'm finger crossed it'll be fairly sensible......... Emergency hotpants at the ready.

>>By Bethan   (Wednesday, 28 Jul 2004 09:19)

The Chris Ryan in Mr Bean is the same Chris Ryan that also appears in the Young Ones as Mike , and Bottom as Dave Hedgehog. But Chris Ryan the author did do a bit of acting in Ultimate force.

>>By Psicosis   (Wednesday, 28 Jul 2004 10:27)

Just finished Stand by, Stand by. Held my interest enough to continue on with Zero Option, but not nearly as good as The Watchman. I don't know why, but there were a few times in this book (SB,SB) when I had to laugh and ask myself what universe his character lived in. Mainly this happened when he would speculate about his family conundrums and ways to straighten them out. It just felt slightly manipulative and made me dislike the character a bit.

Just in the middle of Greed, finding it a bit slow in places...maybe its me. I have been watching chris Ryan on the sky one show, he has a way with the camera, so how about this for an idea, Chris ryan for james Bond, why not, i mean if they can have timothy dalton or roger moore...Why noT Chris....I read on the movie datebase that he is back in series three, of ultimate force, when that begins i have no idea.
I need to get his new novel, and has anyone read his keepfit book, pretty good...
PS Hi all F-troopers

>>By briwriter   (Thursday, 19 Aug 2004 16:53)

i don't know about chris ryan as james bond bri, he hasn't got the eloquence. plus he's a geordie grunt so i don't think he would pull it off somehow, and he's not a very good actor either come to think of it.

>>By Nemesis2842004   (Thursday, 19 Aug 2004 19:11)

well if roger can do it Nem, as for geordie, well it would be cool just think, the opening scene.
Bond sits at a casino table a beautiful woman introduces her self, and you get..
"The names Bond pet, james bonD, Wye Ie dont fancy a pint of newcastle brown doz U,, ei ur a canny lass"

mmmm would be better than austin powers lol

>>By briwriter   (Thursday, 19 Aug 2004 20:01)

not a bad idead, would be quite amusing actually. hmmm i will have to hold judgement then lol

>>By Nemesis2842004   (Thursday, 19 Aug 2004 21:29)

Can't believe that new series on Sky with CR, thought we'd moved on from being told to put a mattress in front of the door to protect us from a nuclear bomb, perlease.

Word on Ultimate Force 3 is 'later this year'.

"So, Mr. Bond, you have come to kill me?" " Why aye man."

>>By camban   (Friday, 20 Aug 2004 11:47)

Well done Cam lol, ok how abot this one, for a Chris Ryan as james Bond..
"why I pet your a canny lass and all, painted gold, but can u make pie and chips like me ma."

>>By briwriter   (Friday, 20 Aug 2004 14:42)

Hello again all
I've just spent the best part of the day reading the book many here have recommended- The Watchman. And what a well written and gripping story it is!
I thoroughly enjoyed it and can understand why these books instigate such discussion- the key characters are painted beautifully and events unfold satisfyingly.I've obviously got plenty of thoughts about the book but don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't read it yet- emm why exactly haven't you?!!

Re: Terror Alert
You mean we're supposed to learn?
And not just look? (note how polite I was there...)

Got my 'Preparing For Emergencies' booklet from the Government the other day. Was disappointed that there are no pictures of CR in it. That is why HM Govt brought out the booklet isn't it?...to coincide with CR's programme?

There you go...just living up to your perception of me...
Tomorrow...I go blonde...

Hi all, well saw that Chris Ryan series, been watching it the past few weeks since it started and found it very interesting... Chris is supposed to be back in the new series of ultimate force later in the year. Its a pity they dont make some of his books into tv films, think they would go down a storm...
Ok need to finish my cuppa ta-ta for now me chickens, oh i have to stop watching big brother re runs....Thank god the sopranos are back...

>>By briwriter   (Friday, 27 Aug 2004 15:58)

Soooo Trekker how is your preparation going for the nepal journey with CR in person ?? Are you training enough ? Have your feet become hard yet from all the walking ?

You know what I haven't finished the Increment yet, and instead I've been reading other books, I wonder what that means hey ? Sorry CR

Bri : WHAT !! you look at the Sopranos ?? (Looks away with disgust)
And I bet you watch them while you're having some of your mums apricot cake, what a disgrace !!

>>By borisette   (Tuesday, 31 Aug 2004 13:48)

Hi Borisette,
Preparation for the trek is going pretty well I think thanks pet. I've raised £1,500 so far so only another £1,000 to go : ) People nod vigorously and insist "Yes I HAVE already sponsored you" when they see me coming nowadays!
I go out for fast road marches about three times a week for an hour or more at a time and do the odd workout at the gym. The only steep hilly roads near me lead up to the South Downs and in the local rag last week there was a report of several sightings of a snow leopard up there... a big cat from the Himalayas! I was up there tabbing the other night in the dark and the thought that the wild beasty might leap out of the bushes and eat me all up meant I moved very quickly indeed! Me being a cowardly wuss the boring treadmill set to full incline suddenly appears more inviting!
As Nepal is so steep and hilly I know I do need to train more for going up and down hills.Apparently it's the coming downhill that is hard on the knees.
Funny you should ask about my feet...I've always liked keeping my feet soft and smooth and it goes against the grain to harden them up but I am realising I probably do need to leave the massage oils alone and toughen them up...especially if I'm to believe all the horror stories people delight in telling me about toenails coming out etc! I'm planning on keeping my feet clean, dry, cool and happy if I possibly can on the trek ( I've got some army issue arctic woolly socks and am tabbing in those with no problems so far).
Anyone who missed the previous post about this trek and wants to support SSAFA via 'The man himself' (including a personal message to him?!) can do so at-

Best regards
Trekker

>>By briwriter   (Wednesday, 1 Sep 2004 02:27)

Dear Bri ,
I haven't read all 4 books at the same time, I just read one after the other leaving The increment on the bookshelf (wich I've picked up again to finish)

You're eating too much Britty, apricot cake, sponge cake with vanilla cream, chocolate and peanut spread, tut tut tut......oh dear I can see a double chin coming up.

Are you following me around gnooks ??

>>By borisette   (Wednesday, 1 Sep 2004 12:54)

I have read most of chris ryans books, and have enjoyed them all. Has anyone read "The Increment" I have just got it out of the library and will not be starting it untill I go on holiday next week. Selfish to hog it longer than I should, I know, but I need a good holiday read to get me through the traumas of "Magaluf"

>>By twin1   (Sunday, 5 Sep 2004 16:18)

Hi Twin 1, some of us have read 'The Increment' yes, quite good it is too, with some reservations. It ends with....*bang*.............Aagh

>>By camban   (Monday, 6 Sep 2004 11:52)

cheers camban, I am looking forward to it. Doesn't all of his books (and most in this genre) end with a bang?

>>By twin1   (Friday, 10 Sep 2004 01:12)

There's a joke somewhere in here, I'm sure of it..... Chris Ryan..... a bang... Chris Ryan...... a bang......
