I've been part of this hypocritical little game for too long now. I've started, so I'll finish. Actually it would probably have never carried on dw, except for the encouragement from you. Go on, they'll hate it on McNab board...... Oh well.

So, some don't like the humour, I don't like bitching. I still have to read it. I don't like petty squabbles like the kind rose brought, I still have to read it. Giving people like rose ammunition? They don't need any, it's all there in their heads, and anyway they know the truth! Actually I don't have to read it.........

This will all get poof'd, don't care really. Ta ta. Enjoy your lives, I'm off to play with action man (well what hot blooded woman wouldn't?)

Mr Ryan...please take a look out of your window...
It's gold hotpants weather!!

>>By bikergirl

eh who is this writer?

>>By *Vovin*

Eeerr....*Vovin* ?

If you need to ask *who*, then *what* brings you here? :o)

>>By am-i-binned

It's a very very deep question!!! I mean 'who is this writer' !!
We don't know, do we.

>>By Lynn

why do people automatically think that (Nish) mental illness should be attributed to SAS? It was never that simple.

>>By ukalvin

Maybe not, and certainly not something to be discussed here!

Credit where credit's due our boy keeps himself busy. F-Troop trek anyone? Hotpants and slim fast are optional.....

>>By Bethan

i've seen a lot of the i don't sleep because of the terrible things posts in a lot of the f-troop forums reating to certain authours but it don't happen. as a soldier you dream of your first kill then when you get it you enjoy it because there dead your not the training works then?. personnaly i think a lot of the writers and a lot of different genres put this in to books, movies etc. to try and make themselves more human or to appear that way.

soldiers love to kill! it excites them and it is the only true time they ever test themselves, but people seem to make such a deal over a split second thing, that they will brag about in a bar.

this is leading to a question more than anything but just making the staement all the same. should people feel wrong for killing in the name of queen and country (excuse the pun) and okay yeh certain things set you off (smell etc) and all of a sudden your back there but coming off ops it takes a long time to aclimatise (especially in tescos because i have felt like killing everyone in there on numerous occasions). well just something to think about so answers in the post to www.i'mpissedbuthappy.com.

enjoy

Re: CR Goes Wild in Nepal (SSFA trek above but one)
There's a handy Q & A page that details what is/isn't included in the trip. Unfortunately it's incomplete...please include the following omissions:

What is included?
Reading material by the man himself. A copy of all the deleted sex scenes never to have (dis)graced the pages of a Chris Ryan novel.
Free. Gratis. No charge. You WILL have one!!

What's not included?
The DVD version of the above...

Re: "especially in tescos because i have felt like killing everyone in there on numerous occasions"
Try online shopping maybe? ;-)

>>By bikergirl

that is my chosen method but sometimes you can't escape it lol.

Extract from The Excrement (I'm sorry...just listening to it...), I mean The Increment, here at the "randomho" website...

http://64.71.185.155/randomho/audio/Increment.ram

Just over 4 mins worth and not a hint of "you'll be overcome with emotion and then..."

>>By bikergirl

Killing everyone in Tesco? That rings a horrible truth with me. I know a squaddie who had just returned from his seventh tour of NI (mentioned on the AM board some time ago) he had the experience of his best mate being blown to bits right next to him. He drank a whole bottle of whisky, went into Tesco, grabbed a knife from the display and threatened to kill himself right there. Eventually overpowered by seven security men and police officers, he was tried and sent jail for 18 months with no flicker of interest or responsibility from the army. Makes think doesn't it?

>>By camban

yeh tesco has this certain thing about it much like the US postal services whole going postal thing. scary but supermarkets get to me on a good day let alone after a few months out of the country.

sorry must have got the supermarket haters page mixed up with chris ryan somehow <<<<<<<<< needs help lol

Ok this is old, but then maybe some of you haven't read it yet :

Chris Ryan never travels without...
Guardian

Saturday January 6, 2001

A necessity: My Psion computer, because it has everything in it: addresses, notes or whatever.

A luxury: Music. I always have my CD player and something to listen to. I always mean to take a book but don't always do it, so I put the CD player on. It stops me getting bored.

A good-luck charm: My old dog tags. I am a terrible flyer and very superstitious. I was given a coin too so I added that to my dog tags, and then when I was in Iraq I found an old British penny so that is on there as well. I always wear them round my neck. I won't fly without them.

If only: I hate driving but I have to do a lot. A really fast car where you could just get in and not have to touch the gears or anything would be wonderful. It would be as fast as flying while remaining on the ground.

The Increment by Chris Ryan
"It is a long, hot summer and the country is suffering an epidemic of road rage."

We say...
Why risk road rage?
Flying is the safest form of travel......

"Air hostess,
I like the way you dress......"

>>By B.A.B.E.S

ROTFLMFAO!!!!

My favorite line: "We do lots of Special Air Services"

And whaddaya know? I've got a cameo!! I don't know who's braver- the B.A.B.E.S. for flying with me, or Chris Ryan for flying with the B.A.B.E.S.!

>>By Majorette

Anyone else read The Increment yet? Don't want to spoil it for those intending to, but I am sure that some will be compelled. Enough to say here that it seems badly edited to me, but a good story line.

Hello! Just found this interesting discussion group via a google link. I am actually going on this trek with Chris Ryan to raise vital funds for SSAFA Forces Help.
I need to raise £2,500...so I need sponsors. If some of you here would like to make a donation to help support SSAFA's vital work It would be absolutely fantastic.
I sincerely hope you don't mind me asking for this help as my first post.
I read 'The one that got away' some years ago and even stripping the story back to the bare bones of 'roughly what happened' the man's certainly got more resilience than a very resilient thing.
If I find time to read his other books I will comment here like a good un!
Cheers people and all the best

Hi y'all,

Just finished The Watchman and gotta say it's a great book for a summer vacation. Had trouble putting it down.

Just a few things bothered me; wonder if anybody else had the same thoughts.... I don't think I'm ruining anything huge with the following, but just to be sure, I'll put it in spoilers:

1) If Joe Meehan and Alex Temple locked eyes at Hammond's funeral, why would Temple risk being seen again when he and Dawn scoped out Widdowe's house pretending to be young buyers?? If Meehan had been there (as Temple suspected), wouldn't he have known immediately that Temple was SAS?

2) Perhaps I missed something obvious, but what made everybody so sure that Widdowe would be next after the first two murders? Why not Angela Fenwick?

3) WTF does Temple see in Sophie? She's so two-dimensional. I just didn't buy that relationahip. I can understand a guy like Temple having a one-night stand with a girl like Sophie, but a relationship? A 6" nail through the head would have been preferable, and more merciful, in my opinion.

>>By Majorette

Er Maj, I didn't pick up on any of the dichotomies you mention, you are obviously too perceptive, or I am not. Maybe nobody is cos they haven't answered either! You have made me think I should read it again, it was very good I though.

>>By camban

just finished the increment so hurry up and tell me what you think.

>>By Nemesis2842004

Bethan, thankyou so much for your encouragement with the Nepal trek!
Nemesis, I believe Chris has a lead character that runs throughout his books?
Is The Increment in that series or could I read it before all the others?

>>By Trekker

yeah chris has matt browning at the moment, if you read the increment you wouldn't spoil the rest of the books too much but i suggest reading them in order, and read the the watchman if you haven't allready it's the one piece of work that made him stand out from the rest. I would like to wish you luck with the nepal trek, and hope it goes well.

>>By Nemesis2842004

Thankyou so much! I must say that awaiting the Nepal trek is very exciting- although I believe that there's some sort of civil war going on there !!
I will take your advice and start at the beginning and read Chris' books in order....
Stand by Stand by ......

>>By Trekker

there is a civil war but you be near it, it's a communist vs ghurka thing and it's been going on for a few years now. but you should be excited it's a great place and i'm sure you will enjoy yourself

>>By Nemesis2842004

excuse the typo i'm running out of excuses so must have been my crap typing this time

>>By Nemesis2842004

ha ha ha I am always scrambling words as I type...I claim it's because my brain works faster than my fingers but secretly I know different! In fact I've taken to dyeing my hair blond so that folks don't expect too much from me.
Last night I started reading through a few of the past pages here...seems like some posters know Chris? If it was me I don't know if I would find it flattering or strangely disturbing having people discussing me and my books on a website.

Nepal...I think the Ghurkas are incredible soldiers....and I know there has been a lot of bad feeling over our treatment of them after they have faithfully served in our army.I remember watching them demonstrate jungle warfare at the Aldershot army displays I was taken to as a kid....I also remember the scary moment aged 10 when one drew his Khukri upon my request to have a closer look. My dad then quietly told me not to worry if the Ghurka made a small cut in my hand as they always drew blood once the Khukri was out of it's sheath!......the moment thankfully never came but it added to the awe...and I never asked to see a khukri again!

>>By Trekker

unfortunately the goverment does treat them badly, as they are great soldiers and very friendly people. They don't have to draw blood anymore if they unsheath their khukri, thank god. amazing bit of kit the khukri, they come with 2 flints in the sheath for lighting fires and something else i can't quite remember.
