Bri, that's not a fantasy, that's a normal Saturday night. If that's the best you can do, I hope you haven't put any romantic scenes in your book.

So, Cam thinks I'm needy and Bri thinks I'm cheap. Jeez, thanks guys, I love you too. ;-)

The scene in the bedroom didn't make the final cut of the first episode, it was just shown in the trailer.

Anyway, never mind all that...

How Not To Die: On Holiday (Whilst Surfing With Big Bitey Sharks)

We join survival expert Cheesy Ryan on the beach. He's taken off his gold hot pants...(wey hey...)

...and is wearing black swimming trunks (oh well...)

"Here's a survival tip I learned that's as cheap and simple as me. Always carry a hammer tucked into your neoprene suit of choice whilst surfing to protect you from shark attacks."

Cheesy waves his impressive looking implement in front of the camera...

"I use this one from my days on the CT team, but you can get one from your local 'You-can-do-it...' sloganned DIY store. They've got them on offer just now. Just don't get 'em mixed up with the rubber mallet you use to knock in your awning pegs when you go caravanning, eh? They won't do the trick half as well."

Cheesy wades into the water clutching his tool...
...but he's forgotten his board...

<<<a later take>>>

Cheesy's astride his board paddling in the gentle summer swell.

"Things can get really dangerous out here."
A family in a pedalo bob into shot behind him...

"You've got to stay alert."
The gentle tinkle of the ice-cream van melody turns the sea into a seething, boiling white water frenzy as people are drawn by the lure of a Mr Whippy...

"Now all the grockles have gone, I'm at my most vulnerable from a shark attack. I'm an easy target for a Great White."

Cheesy looks around uneasily...
...he knows there's no Great Whites at Lusty Glaze. But he thinks it's an appropriately named place for a man like him...so b*gger the sharks. (Hang on...that's not the right survival tip! Would it even work he wonders...)

"The commonly accepted method is to bash 'em on the nose. But how about this? Use your hammer to knock out all their teeth. The tabloids never reported anyone getting gummed to death, now did they?"

Cheesy triumphantly flashes a grin of perfect pearly whites (wouldn't want to get bitten by those...)
(or would you...)
The credits roll.

Next time (predictably)...How Not To Die: On Holiday (Whilst Surfing With Big Gummy Sharks)

I ran into this book:
http://www.crimezone.nl/showbook.php?titleID=1287

Blackout published in 2004. I can't find the synopsis in English, not sure the book is translated in English either.
In Dutch part of synopsis:

Midden in de winter wordt New York opgeschrikt door een reeks bomaanslagen waardoor in de hele stad de elektriciteit uitvalt. (..)CIA-agent John McMurphy gelooft niet dat een Amerikaanse millieugroepering achter de aanslagen zit, zoals sommigen vermoeden..

You could try a translation machine, though that give some odd results. Anyway.. it's about the power in New York going down after bomb attacks. And an agent trying to find the culprits.
It's very likey very different books, but there's some similarity either.

Hey I am new to Chris's books. In the USA they are rare to find I did find Land Of Fire on CD in my local library but no books. I have to get them from Ebay/my mother who lives in the UK. Iam a Brit living in Nebraska, by the way. I have read 2 McNabs books and quite enjoyed them so Chris Ryan is next on my list. Reading Greed at the moment and enjoying it have several more lined up, but want to read them in sequence if possible.
All the best, GaryA.

I think you'll be suprised at how good this book is, it's completely different to ryans usuall stuff and the backdrop works well. This is coming in second to the watchkeeper, and a nice comeback.

In case anyone is interested or needs to brush up on French language... Ryan's books are translated and being published in French: The Watchman this month, TOTGA (January) and The Hit List (May) following.

Ultimate Weapon, great story idea and good to read BUT full of typos, hundreds of them! And editing mistakes, just as in his previous books, you get the impression that the whole thing was rushed, great shame but don't let it put you off.

>>By camban   (Monday, 23 Oct 2006 15:58)

Maybe he needs a ghostwriter like Andy McNab...heh, just kidding, too easy.
