You're going to have to read back a bit to find out Trekker.
Has the Nepal event occurred yet?
>>By camban
I've seen a few references to Gold Hotpants but not why..or if it's 'The Girls' or Chris himself that wears them!! Never mind, it was just a passing curiosity ....and a half hour spent searching on here would be better spent hill walking as I still need to get much fitter and we leave for the Himalaya Trek on the 19th February -which is only 20 weeks away! Cheers : )

Chris should never be far from his good buddy Andy.

Wow! Well done Trekker...you're nearly at your fundraising target! Mr Ryan is lagging well behind...but perhaps he's only there to entertain you...
"Chris Ryan will be tagging along giving his survival tips but also telling of his experiences to anyone who will listen, he’s the entertainment while you walk, much like an in flight movie - but probably more exciting!"
No 'probably' about it I'd say...
******************** Re: gold hotpants Post #12 on page 9 heralded the first appearance of those gold hotpants...in Big Brother SAS.

Once again, I'll apologize. I should never have said such a terrible thing. It was completely uncalled for and I have no excuse except for extreme stupidity.

Well Bikergirl/Babes thankyou for that gigglesome and irreverent diversion! Also thanks for the encouragement with my trek and fundraising. The difference between us trekkers and CR is that by hook or by crook we HAVE to raise at least £2,500 to go on the trek- the whole point being to raise as much money as possible for SSAFA Forces Help and most fundraising occuring offline (I have so far only raised £300 online), whereas CR is kindly lending his celebrity status, his vast experience, his time (two weeks of it!) and his effort to the whole project and that in itself is a major contribution and great publicity for SSAFA. That said....nothing wrong with his online fans taking this opportunity to spread the webpage url and/or raise funds from family and friends and online contacts then popping it onto CR's webpage. SSAFA needs every penny! Cheers! http://www.justgiving.com/chris-ryan

You're right Trekker I sponsored Mr Ryan a while ago (hopefully it's protection money for helping to put him in hotpants). (Sorry he took the money off you!) I hope the training's going well, maybe you could do a BABES-style diary of the trek for us, hotpants aren't compulsory ha ha. And don't forget your slim fast!!!!! Beth

Right then..which little *bleep toad bleep*(cover your ears ladies)*bleep bleep grr spit stamp hiss* thought it would be amusing to tear the very last page of 'Land of Fire' out of my copy?!!! I always thought that was an amusing prank until now! I'm away holidaying in Eastern Europe with no chance of getting hold of another copy for a day or so and I'm in a right state ....what happens at the end?! Does he? Does she? Do they?!! Every day I've read a little more of the book and it's made my afternoon siestas pleasure filled..until today! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Land of Fire is gripping...and I'm at the climax...arghhhh...someone please type the end of the book for me....here...now....quickly!!! Please! Mine ends on page 326 in the large paperback version...
'The Apache was already banking hard over. it climbed for a moment, then, deprived of the stabilising thrust of the tail rotor,'
Then what?! Life is soooo cruel! This is what happens when you read a good book! Best regards to all Trekker
>>By Trekker
Wow Trekker, that must be the most horrible of feelings, surely it's not a new book? You must sue their asses without mercy. Anyway, what happens is that a space ship appears and all the goodies are beamed aboard to be greeted by this god-like individual wearing a pair of metallic finished shorts and they all live happily ever after. Amen.
>>By camban
Back in Blighty now...thanks for informing me of the ending Camban, CR in gold hotpants beaming up the goodies eh? Oh 'gumdrops' there's a bizarre mental image! Best regards Trekker

In the wake of the mysterious 'Three Cities' attacks, Josh finds himself on the way to the USA, on the trail of a pair on intrepid young hackers who are out to try and make themselves a fortune, and who are in grave danger from those who would kill for the secrets they have managed to uncover - how to control the power of the Western world. But soon Josh finds himself waking up in a ditch bloody and wounded, and with no memory of who he is, how he got there, or how he got hurt. Yet one thing is for certain - Josh is in danger. Stranded in the Wild West, Josh must rely on his instincts as a soldier and on the kindness of a beautiful stranger in order to escape those who appear intent on tracking him down and killing him - all for a secret he can't remember. Chris Ryan demonstrates SAS driving techniques in 'Fifth Gear', Channel 5 UK 15 November, at 2030 hours, repeated 16 November.
>>By camban
Turns out they were teaching him how to drive SAS style! He said the training was never sustained enough for the troops to get the hang of it properly. Hence, lots of inverted Range Rovers littering Northern Ireland. Most common radio message: Rover over, over.

Hello folks Have you previously discussed Chris Ryans books for kids? They are a series called Alpha Force and they are great for 11 to 16 year olds. My neice is into them big time and she raves about them and i've been asked to get her some for Christmas. I just wondered if its been discussed here before?
>>By bookyhelen
No, sorry Helen, we are all too old for them!

Happy New Year everyone!
>>By bookyhelen
Just finished Greed, and it was actually quite good. So I stand corrected with my initial verdict: "a total piece of crap". Now, although the sexy stuff is still cheezy, i feel it's a part of the story-telling and an introduction of certain characters and their role in the plot. So it's more of a case of the authors style of writing rather than plot-weakness.
So, all in all: well done, Mr. Ryan.

Random house has an extract of CR’s new book for kids, don’t worry you can put your own cover over it and pretend it’s the tough new adult one. http://www.randomhouse.co.uk/catalog/ extract.htm?command=search&db=main.txt& eqisbndata=009948014X
Usual deal with the hard returns.
Opening chapter is the kidney man - now if that doesn't intrigue you nothing will.

Thankyou! I survived! Just! The trek route was changed at the last minute due to Maoist activity- while we were in Nepal there was a gunfight with dozens of Maoists and four security forces chaps killed. There was curfews in the evenings in Kathmandu, which we realised by seeing the traders shutting up shop earlier than usual. We had to fly to the start and end of the trek rather than bus out there due to fears of roadside bombs. The Maoists came to our camp on the last day and money changed hands. A Maoist was on the path as I arrived counting the trekkers no doubt to see what levy he would charge. He was hard faced and unfriendly and I felt immediately he wasn't there to sell us a beer! That said, things in Nepal are very bad, and the people are struggling so much to survive. Things look like they are getting worse there by the day now. The trek was very arduous and some days it involved 10 hours of hard effort to ascend up through the mountains. Many of us got ill with chest infections and a flu type virus which made it all even more of an ordeal. On day one I got heatstroke (I have never been able to cope with heat in England let alone the mid day sun in Asia!) I had bottles of cold water poured over me to cool me down. I was determined to keep moving onwards, so I could be heard spitting obscenities and emitting grunting with the exertion of keeping going- Noises not heard from me since I was last in childbirth! CR was wonderful. Very quietly and unassumingly he gave me focussed encouragement and help. I would rather have died than have given in and succumbed to the effects of the heatstroke in front of him. Seriously. That was my day of 'selection' and I didn't jack it in! : ) Another trekker was struggling too that day but with CR quietly carrying three peoples backpacks! bless him, and plenty of rest stops, we arrived as a team at the first camp. Despite being ill with a virus and chest infection I cracked on at a really good pace for the rest of the trek and was relieved after that first day that there was nothing wrong at all with my actual fitness.
Being in the wilderness of the Himalayas was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. It's incredibly beautiful. Standing in the clouds- Literally! Breathtaking! There's just no one there! I could have stayed in a hut in those forests forever and never missed our modern lives. The Nepalese are amazing people. And totally poor. Shame on the world's leaders that allow such an inbalanced distribution of the planets assets. anywaaay....
Chris Ryan's trek challenge raised more than....£65,000 !!!!!! .... clear profit for SSAFA Forces Help All donations continue to be gratefully recieved.....
