I think it might be stretching things a little to call not killing my Yukka plant thru various neglect "gardening" :)

Gardening.....how many people are on the dole in the UK? And how long are people supported at one time? Do these facts relate to the absence of ambition? Does lack of productive activity and the 'time' for gardening correlate? Any ideas?
And Flagg.....young people in your areas don't have a desire to own or drive hot cars?
And Tchock ...there aren't slums in Liverpool? (pssst I've personally spent time there)..
Tony Blair was here recently and he impressed us all.
When are you folks going to get real???

Am I alone in wondering if Lv2bs is physically attracted to Mr Blair?

>Am I alone in wondering if Lv2bs is physically attracted to Mr Blair?
Not anymore.
>And Flagg.....young people in your areas don't have a desire to own or drive hot cars?
I imagine some do. They mostly have a desire to go out, have fun and get drunk and laid though.
Look, people are different. Just because someone is into gardening (or anything else) instead of cars, doesn't mean they have less ambition. They have different ambitions, that's all. Is that really so hard to understand?
>>By Flagg (Monday, 21 May 2007 18:31)
And gardening *is* a productive use of time isn't it? Things are produced. Aren't they?
And why the hell are we still arguing about gardening?? Where did it even come from. This is so ridiculous.
>>By Flagg (Monday, 21 May 2007 18:33)
Tell me about the dole.....what percentage of your people are on the dole....and for how lomg. If you can remain unproductive forever, why work, why be ambitious, and for what reason? And if you are taxed to death, why work extra hard? Wgy not settle for the unstylish car, the bgoring flat, why aspire for anything? Why not twll yourself that your avocation is gardening? How 'long' have you people done without? By your standards, 05% of Americans MUST be rich......
Are you getting the idea? (Hint...reaction formation) I'm on the dole....have been for years, am NOT PRODUCTIVE, can't afford one decent car...much less two, and I read that down and out unemployed blacks in America have two cars, can go to Las Vegas twice a year....and so on.
Why are you folks settling for so little? Re TV.....nature specials in prime time??? You absolutely can't be serious??
FYI: I enjoy East Enders and Are you being served?? for about three weeks at a time. I can take Mr. Humphreys occasionally but it tends to grate on you.
>>By lv2read (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:19)
I don't watch TV, I play computer games.
>>By Flagg (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:28)
> and I read that down and out unemployed blacks in America have two cars, can go to Las Vegas twice a year....and so on.
And what exactly has your mythical down and out's race got to do with anything?

I think lv2read's finally had a nervous breakdown.
Yes, there is a lack of "ambition" in many people's lives - for instance there are people in this country who feel that the state owes them a living or that they can live life without earning a penny by themselves; but the main "ambition" drain is due to the fact that people have been given opportunities all their lives and have never had to seek them for themselves. And it is the ambition I am talking about has nothing to do with flash cars, fancy flats and sleek fashion, but more to do with what people really want to achieve for themselves - what they really want to do, whether it be further education, working to keep their family in a house, to keep up their hobbies, to travel the world to see experience other cultures... that is ambition. Ambition has fuck all to do with how much you earn - and if that's what you want to teach us, then I think we're all better off scraping a living & doing something we enjoy. Money's not the be all & end all, lv2read. I would have thought that life would have taught you that vital lesson. But I guess that one flew over your head like all the others.
And if you really do watch Eastenders & Are you Being Served, then we should REALLY starting worrying for your sanity.

"Ambition makes you look pretty ugly Kicking Squealing Gucci Little Piggy
That's it sir, I'm leaving, the crackle of pig skin The dust and screaming, the yuppies networking the panic, the vomit, the panic, the vomit God loves his children, god loves his children ... yeah..."
>>By Tchock (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:37)
Ambition is the desire to improve your station in life, to be more successful at work, to acquire more things, to live better all around. It is not being satisfied with what you have, and on, and on. There apparently is no reward in the UK for beung ambitious.
Ear....according to your standards there are nio Blacks in poverty in Amrtica. If the housing that I saw in Liverpool wasn't poverty----the vast majorityu of American blacks aren't in poverty!!!...And the Middle Class in America are really wealthy......Ear you are wrong on almost everything. But continue to listen to the kids and you will never really understand.......much of anything.
Tchock, how many cars have YOU owned in your life?
I rest my case....
The AVERAGE 17 YR OLD IN AMERICAN MAY ALREADY BE IN THEIR 2ND CAR. AND THAT IS GOOD, VERY GOOD!!
>>By lv2read (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:00)
So there's blacks and there's Middle Classes in the US in your view lv2rd?
>>By planet ear (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:05)
The penny's just not going to drop is it, lv2read ??
I don't give a shit how many cars the average teenager over in america owns. It doesn't bother me because I know what I want and I don't want to accrue cars. What I want in life sways very far from your opinion of what you think I should want. I want my university degree - I want to be a fucking engineer, and yeah I'll get paid better than average, but I never chose this career on the basis of monetry rewards at the end of it all. I chose electrical engineering because I actually love science. Ambition is not about making money - it is about achieving PERSONAL things. It's about bettering yourself at what you do best, at what you ENJOY - it's about working hard to achieve things that you really want to do. It is a sad state of affairs if you think that earning money should be what you really want to do. What kind of society would we live in if we taught our children not to follow their dreams but their bank balance?
I don't own any cars, I haven't got a driver's license. Does this make me any less happy than "the teenagers" in America?
The reward for being ambitious might very well contain a good salary, but I think for most of us in this life it is the fact that we crawled out of the gutter & made something of ourselves. How many of us will look back on our lives & smile at all the cars, wealth & possessions we accumulated over the years?

As ever you talk utter crap lv2bs
GDP per Capita. The table below includes data for the year 2006 for all 180 members of the International Monetary Fund, for which information is available. Data are in United States dollars.
1 Luxembourg 87,955
2 Norway 72,306
3 Qatar 62,914
4 Iceland 54,858
5 Ireland 52,440
6 Switzerland 51,771
7 Denmark 50,965
8 United States 44,190
9 Sweden 42,383
10 Netherlands 40,571
11 Finland 40,197
12 United Kingdom 39,213
So if I'm terribly concerned about the 11% more you guys earn I'll move there I guess, but then I'd have to deal with the likes of lv2bs far too often for my liking.......
>>By planet ear (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:22)
sorry *12.7% more......
>>By planet ear (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:28)
Yeah, I gave him a link to similar figures.... ignored.....
That is the thing in America.... there are a lot more mad self-important people per population than in most other countries... weird that.... perhaps it's something in the water... ???
>>By Tchock (Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:53)
Ear....Southern Orange County has a larger population than Iceland and our per capita income is in excess of $100,000. The disparity in incopme between the UK and USA is far greater than 11%....Unless, of course. you've never been here. As I said, Ear, you are going to belief what you want----like Liverpool not having vast slums. All I am saying is that blacks standard of living in America far exceeds what I saw in Liverpool. However this is where Tchock would point out that Liverpoolians don't really need anymore.
Pls give me the yr, make and model of any stylish car that you've seen on the road today. Have you seen even three all day. We will observe hundreds every hour...probably more!! But of course you people don't desire them.
>>By lv2read (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 00:31)
Go argue that with the IMF. I prefer hard facts made by reputable academics or similar bodies to your unbalanced "observations"

> Southern Orange County has a larger population than Iceland and our per capita income is in excess of $100,000.
The source of this figure is your imagination or something a little more reliable?

Dunno. Cars don't interest me much beyond that I have one it's economical and it goes from one place to another fairly reliably. Saw some lovely gardens tho :)))

>Traffic in south Orange County can get so bad it frequently hits a parking lot crawl – especially on the weekends and during the summer. But traffic wonks are trying to ease things up. Today the Orange County Transportation Authority will unveil a laundry list of ideas that it hopes will address gridlock from the 55 Freeway south to San Clemente. The $1.2 million study encompasses freeways and streets, along with MASS TRANSIT.
Oh Good! It looks like you'll finally get some buses or trains then... Well Done! You're paying attention at last!

It's like talking to a objectionable child............

Have you ever thought that the "rich & famous" living in L.A might just contribute to the above-average income of California ?? Not everyone's living it up in the "Golden State" you know.... some people are in debt, others are slaving away down at the local Walmart where they don't even have a union, many are sending their kids through school and uni - paying over the odds for tuition fees; many are struggling to pay off mortgages, or loans.... despite appearances, lv2read, I doubt that most are struggling to pay off the last quarter of the cost of the 2007 Porsche model. Yes, some people can afford it, but alas... the thing about life is that just because yours is going (financially) well, doesn't mean that everyone else's is going swell too. Besides, there are - and I know this is hard to accept - there are people out there who just plain don't want what you think they should want. Feckin' hell !!!!!
planet ear - you must've read that in some communist propoganda book, Mass Transit in California.... why Arnie wouldn't allow such a heinous act of reasoning !!!!!
>>By Tchock (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:22)
You mean "The Orange County Register" is a instrument of left-wing proganda as well as a handy place to advertise a used automobile?!?!?!? Gosh!
>>By planet ear (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:53)
L, do you remember when you asked where English people's ambition was and I mentioned my intention to make martial arts the focus of my life, and I said "That's where my ambition is by the way". And you said something along the lines of "Good for you". Remember? You seemed to grasp the concept then. So what's changed?
Seriously, when Tchock says "Money's not the be all & end all, lv2read", why don't you just say "yes it is"? And then we could go "no it isn't". We'd be making the same amount of progress, it would just be quicker.
>>By Flagg (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 11:06)
Flagg...why don't we distinguish between a juvenile's ambitions and a productive adult's ambitions. Ok? How many people do you support...assuming that you support yourself. The same goes for Tchock. Money IS a big thing....karate is nice....but housing, income and groceries are ESSENTIAL. This is big people stuff. Keep in mind that you have to pay your own way....there is no dole....no safety net....and your wife is complaining...and the cost of car insurance has tripled....and there is no place to turn. What now??? Would you rather find yourself in a socialist economy OR the hope, promise and opportunity of a capitalistic free market economy. OPEN YOUR ERYES.
>>By lv2read (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 23:08)
Housing, income and groceries are essential. SUVs are not. It's fairly simple really.
I'm getting sick of your repetetive messages. If you insist on talking shit could you at least check your spelling from now on?
>>By Flagg (Wednesday, 23 May 2007 23:31)
It's intriguing how he managed to steal one of our (my) arguments against him and pass it off as his own under a new disguise, all while inadvertantly proving our point.
Does this guy really actually know what he's talking about, or is he just another vague arguer who has more money than sense ??

What % of your people are on the dole? How are they motivated to work? Any penalties for refusing work?

Did I strike a nerve when I brought up the dole? It almost seems as though I did. Surely Ear is prepared to apologize, or exdcuse, the unbearable percentage of those on the roll. Do you see any correlation between the extended periodsw of time that one may languish living off society and the abysmal lack of ambition in your society? Now this isn't personal Ear...any ideas about capitalism??
How's my spelling/typing Flagg....don't bother with the content??
