Hi Buddy
i think that is a good idea and you shouldnt bin it im up for it if you make the closing date say next week as i have more exams :-( and will have no time to write it!

Hey caroline after reading the book so many i have actually started to speak like him and people do give me strange looks for it. And i have started watching people more beofre i talk and waiting for people to arrive first etc which i never used to do strange no?
Dark Winter is his next book out 6 november in the Uk i dont know about anywhere else.

i also nearly failed my english exam it was a funny story actually! but the examiner didnt apretiate it he said i used to much slang and it was too long. I didnt get the too long part but i know where the slang came from i have weirdly started writing like AM.

Anybody know any good info sites on Army Air Corps? which give you facts about how it all works etc.

>>By christina   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 17:38)

I do Christina but I am out the door from work so I shall provide tomorrow

as for my english exam I nealry failed cos I wrote abeautiful essay then realised with 5 mins to go I hadnt answered the question, so ... slightly changed the question to match my answer

Hi all

Thanks very much for the warm welcome, this really is a popular site, been working to hard to have replied earlier.

Christina my favourite character, to pick a different one from you, would have to be Tom from firewall, I couldn’t help feel sorry for him and found him quite funny. Choosing fav non-fiction is a very tough one, not much between them but I’ll go for IA because I’m re-reading it just now.

Sheba thanks for the Dean Francis info not had time to check it out yet but I will soon I’ve been on the look for good author’s to fill the time till dark winter comes out.

AIB I didn’t know that about the uk version of RC I will check my version to see if I have the extra 4 pages, will have to look it out I want to read it again anyway as it was years ago I first read it.

Mhorag and Caroline good to see some fellow scots on the site, where in Scotland are yous from, I live near Glasgow.

Does anyone know ifAM have a deal with baby-G before tracer

>>By Brownie   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 20:16)

Found another site with the live camera of the Panama Canal on, same feed as AIB's I think.

Hi I-am-binned

I have read all of Mcnabs books and all of Ryans as well (had a buddy who had all the early ones, then have been running around buying up the newer ones)

"the real bravo two zero" by Michael Asher is interesting becuase you already know the "story" so when he visits certain areas and persons, you can relate it. I dont really care if it was embelished or not.... all 3 made interesting reading (good enough for me to want to read everything else they write)

I really like firewall becuase i have been to Finland and thought it interesting the description of the people. I am really looking forward to reading Dark Winter. I am at the unfortunate position of having read all his books, so i have to wait months in between now for the newest releases (a good problem to have i guess)

Has anyone read Boat Troop by Johnny "two Combs" Howard? its a good read too.   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 20:45)

Uh-oh -- guess I've finally done it, huh? I am binned by the above poster! vbg! vbw! Well, I'll take my chances and wait until the verdict is unanimous if you don't mind....

Am I safe in assuming the above post is from Lee and not Feedthegoat77? Both of you mentioned CR's books, but only yours, Lee, mentioned TRB20.

Several here have read CR extensively and can discuss with you. I'm still relatively new to all things B20/AM/CR/SAS-related having only found B20 in my library last July. I still have much catching up to do, plus being in the US doesn't help. We have a major deficit when it comes to UK SAS-related books, probably all UK books for that matter, but my focus (or should I say, my passion) is very myopic at the moment.... ;o)

I know Buddy has read JTCH, and just recently mentioned that she's currently "got a bit of a thing about JTCH books at the mo"...don't know which book(s) tho. Buddy?

Hi again, Ste. Was wondering if you were still around. Pretty neat cam, huh? Yeah, there are a couple of sites which use the same camera. I haven't been able to find one tho (maybe it's no longer available) that you could actually make pan left-right/right-left...or was that OP'ing east-west/west-east? (wink, wink)

Hi again, Brownie. AM and product placement was mentioned here briefly a little while ago -- it may be that AM has lots of deals going on: Leatherman, Timberlands, baby-G, Tescos, Mars, Spam, Kraft, etc. What I thought was funny is that, although there was much ado about traser in LD, I didn't really notice him mentioning traser as often as it seemed he'd mentioned baby-G or even Lion King for that matter...

Hey there, Christina. A Google search comes up with lots of Army Air Corps related sights....from a quick perusal, most seem to be very interesting and informative...

hey everybody watchin ultimate force on now ITV yeah
thanx AIB

>>By christina   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 22:04)

am-i-binned,

yes that was from me...sorry forgot my screen name :)

If you have trouble finding SAS books, try www.amazon.ca or www.chapters.ca we get lots of British books up here in Canada. I live in europe, but its actually cheaper to get my relatives to by them in Canada and mail them over than to buy them here (Damb Norwegian taxes!!) It should be good for you since your dollar gets a good rate against ours. (remember all prices listed are in Canadian dollars....its like a 2 for 1 sale for you yanks :) )

>>By Lee   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 22:07)

Hi to all the new names I see here! Great, look AIB, you're mission is really
succeeding. How did you all find us??
This was a popular question to everyone new who posted but it hasn't been
asked lately. Still interesting to find out how come you all found us at last.

Caroline - you asked if you were talking too much.. please talk, it's not
likely to be enough since we all like to talk.

About AM visiting us here - the only person who's always 'warning' us that
he might be here is Buddy. .... but then she says she has insider info on
the man... ;-)

Hello

I am in Midlands UK

I read B20 a long time ago enjoyed it so much I wanted a copy of my own. I did not get one I got Imediate Action and all other Andy McNab novels and Chris Ryan books. I loved all the brave men and I wanted to join here after I read messages you have written. I want to get to know you all by reading lots you say and I had to stop to watch Utlimate Force for first time ever. I missed it before and I feel swindled. Chris Ryan was not in it tonight and it was very horrible. I want to know why one man tried to kill his wife after bad dream. I would like talk to you about it. Can any one help me to understand why SAS man would do a terrible thing like that. Is that why men in special forces are divorced more times. Are their wives afraid of them. That is what I want to know. They never tell you in books what they are like to live with. Please. Somebody help me. I am still upset at what I see about this man.

>>By Debbie   (Wednesday, 18 Jun 2003 23:46)

Hi all, thought to drop in before but bleeper went and that was that. I don't get much time for boarding but a friend of yours sent me on over for a look see. Excellent board you got here. Great to see so many Andy McNab fans kickiing around. Never thought he'd make it after all that shit in Iraq. Decent enough bloke but my money goes on Chris, the better man of the two. He's more honest and up front and man enough to admit when he's wrong. Flew a couple rounds with him, McNab too. We flyers have a link with this board through one of your members. It's a small world in our setup and next stop is Dean's web site on recommendation from CB. Good writer is CB and yeah, she knows one heck of a lot about 22 SAS and your fav writer.

Gotta go I'm famished and need to tank up.

a lot of their books talk about how hard it is to live with this lifestyle (for the families) didnt one x-wife even write a book about it?

So very nice to have so many new voices here, along with favourite familiar ones! Will try to post welcomes shortly (errands--grrrrr!) .... but, for now, a quick note regarding long hyperlink strings:

The format of this page is now w-i-d-e-r than it normally should be. This is because there are a few very long hyperlinks in the recent postings. When you are drafting your comments, long hyperlink strings wrap automatically. However, when you actually post, the hyperlink does not wrap. To avoid the format going w-i-d-e, you need to force the hyperlink to wrap by inserting hard returns to break up the length of the string (that's why you see posts with long hyperlinks saying: "remove hard returns").

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other way to avoid this problem, and I reset the column width a few times myself by mistake before I learned!

Hello again, Lee...

Thanks for the tip on Amazon.ca -- I wouldn't have thought to try them. It's not so much that I cannot find SAS books, it's more a matter of learning of them in the first place. eBay has been an excellent resource, however. I browse eBay doing searches, reading descriptions of SAS-related books, which then lead to other books, which lead to others, etc. Plus I usually get books cheaper from eBay but I use Amazon to compare prices first. So a Canadian in Norway, eh? How'd that happen? And, as Lynn asked -- how did you happen to find this messageboard?

Welcome, Debbie...

Sorry the program was distressing for you. Not having seen what you, Mhorag and Christina watched, I'm at a loss to comment really, except that divorce and domestic violence/homicide are not unique to the SAS. There've recently been a couple of high-profile spousal murder cases here in the US involving military and PTSS. As to what special forces men are like to live with, if what AM describes in his books is typical, it must be very difficult...considering the demands the Regiment places on them (time away from home and family), along with their own personal commitment to the Regiment (the sacrifices they're willing to make). And yes, Lee, Jenny Simpson's book, Biting the Bullet, is written from a wife's perspective (they're still married I believe). Her marriage, however, did not include domestic violence, although she does tell of others' experiences. AM turns up in her book on a few occasions, too. Remember in IA when AM left the apology note signed "George"? Guess who's house it was?

Welcome, Chinhelo...

Very nice nickname! I almost feel like we know you already because Buddy has mentioned you often! (Well, maybe not you specifically, but you and your friends at any rate.) No need to ask how you found us, you obviously anticipated the question! vbg! And, yes, I quite agree with B/CB recommending Dean Francis to you; I feel certain you'll like his writing. It is quite different from CB's, however, much more McNab and/or Ryan-ish, with a definite male voice. And yes, you're right about CB's personal SAS knowledge -- it is quite apparent in her writing, plus she has her own very distinctive, distinguished voice, I'm sure you'll agree. As to who's the better man personally, AM vs CR, I suppose we could consider this a case of "you would know", whereas we can only surmise based on all that we read, see, and hear.... Alas ~ poor us, eh?

>>By am-i-binned   (Thursday, 19 Jun 2003 05:01)

I found this board becuase i typed in a search for "Dark Winter" ... but to be honest i am not surfing through 43 pages of notes to find it :) but i like the discussions here, so i have returned a few times.

Has anyone read anything interesting from other countries special forces? I know there is no shortage of Delta books. Us Canadians even have one out now about our JTF2.

>>By Lee   (Thursday, 19 Jun 2003 11:23)

J...s C....t, begging pardon the regular church goers here. But hell all the bumph you have takes some right getting through. I'm still at it. Does anyone else remember that little cartoon fella on seventies TV ads. He danced around flapping his lid while a little bit of litter made a bid for freedom. He got it in the end though. Great nick you got yourself am-i-binned.

Fair Target Andy-ish? You are not wrong there me old shiner. Do you think Francis will supplant McNab? New blood on the front of SAS books and able to show his face like Chris Ryan?

Anyone like watching the racing at Ascot on BBC TV? A long-haired blonde in a black and white outfit could be CB. Watch closely the paddock. Where the horses parade before races. She didn't say if her hat were small or large. Rain or shine she wears shades. The ex-army officer she's with today one or two who post here will recognise him.

Yes am-i-binned CB can cut it with the best and she was a good friend to us when we needed someone to listen.

>>By chinhelo   (Thursday, 19 Jun 2003 12:53)

Wow, just gone for a while and see all these new arrivals, woowie.

Swedish reader, can you give me the adress again where I can find AM books
or Sas books easier, then amazon.

AIB, what happened have to scroll from left to right all the time to read a page
takes hours..

Chinhelo, unfortunately don't get Bbc here and I'm not much of a horse race guy.
And as I'm very slow in understanding, is CB = Buddy?? So you both know CR and
AM. What are they like, I mean as the normal guy or whatsoever..

With regards to military books, I read a stonker of a book - The Forgotten Soldier - by Guy Sajer - about being an infantryman in the German - Russian war in WW11 - knocked my socks off - the gritty reality of it - the numbing of any feeling, the propaganda that was to make you feel proud to see your comrades die, and being shot if you werent proud!

phew!

>>By Caroline   (Thursday, 19 Jun 2003 18:03)

And while we're at it, anyone ever read Das Boot? Or saw the film? My favourite ever ever ever film (german version) and the book's amazing too!

Hey people,

Caroline, please give us another demo of your recce (Operation Booze Snatch), it was fantastic.

And Debbie, just to let you know not all SF guys get divorced a thousand times over. I'm still with the same lovely woman I was with before I went "inside" the SF world. And the only thing my wife is afraid of is my cooking.....(nah I tell a lie, I can cook okay-recently perfected toast, moving on to boiled eggs soon)

take care, speak soon

>>By christina   (Thursday, 19 Jun 2003 20:55)

Thank you, MG, for resetting the long hyperlinks! This page is so much easier to read again!

Oh, Christina, you're reminding me of AM and his mates trying every conceivable solution to take care of their feet during Selection! What did AM say? "Everybody was sorting out his feet with whatever magic potion and strapping up his toes. I put orthopedic felt on my heels and sorted out my blisters. The army was full of recipes for how to get rid of things, but I always found that the best thing was to pierce them at the edge with a needle sterilized in a flame, squeeze all the muck out, and just throw a plaster over. There wasn't a lot more that could be done."

Okay, Caroline... both have been added to my ever-growing-longer-than-I-have-time-for list of to-be-reads!

Thanks for the nod on my nickname, Chinhelo!

Boris, sorry if I caused confusion saying B/CB. Buddy is the nickname CB (the author) uses so you are correct in understanding CB = B...

And yet another favourite voice! Hey there, Paul R, always fun when you post! Yeah, I thought you'd get a grin out of Caroline's covert operation. And, of course, you have me completely grinning at your domesticity! Must ask tho, don't you find it a tad difficult making your way around a kitchen with that piece of black cardboard obscuring your vision? VBG! VBW!

Thanks Swedish reader.

Christina : put some pig fat on it it should smooth the pain
Then don't walk anymore just sit down and have yourself served
everything, biscuits , cooldrinks,etc..

Caroline, yes I saw the film ages ago, enjoyed it . There are pc games now about it, you can play, you have to find the boat first and then make it sink.
I guess.

Paul R : Operation get home fast.
Coming from the base, tired and swetting all over (37°), I immediatly felt that someone was following me, (actually it was the housekeeper, but I've just paid the rent). Stepped into my humvee, headed straight for home, there were cars all behind me (I was in a traffic jam) following me. At a stop 3 very
suspicious guys stopped me, they were wearing those orange jackets, thinking they'd belong to the roadconstructors, but I knew they didn't. then I pushed the "upcoming fog " button, so my car was all surrounded by fog, and nobody could see where I was going. ( actually the car infront of me had some trouble and the engine had like taken fire or something) anyway I made it home, but surprise surprise ther was one german spy and an italian shepard in my garden (my dogs) not letting me in, eventually after paying them (with biscuits) they let me out of the car. Then I just tiptoed in to the house, trying to get in from the window,(haven forgotten my keys at work) when a strange voice called me, telling me to get down immediatly (my mother-in-law). So that was that. What a day!
