>>By christina   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 10:45)

See you sometime - back to insane roof demolition...

Hey guys, hold your breat and I might not reappear again...Squat on the floor, head smased to pulp...

Re: Buddy, “where" a facial scar is located
First I’d like to say “the face” since you call it a facial scar.
More interesting is the answer to how you would know our answer is correct or not.

Re: Yes Christina, Frank Collins.
His book may not be interesting to anyone who wants exiting stories (or “same” stories) about the SAS but it’s a very good read if you’re interested in the people behind the mask
(literally and figurative) and more specific in Frank’s case his struggle with childhood inheritance, trying to find a way to compensate his childhood, doubts about his abilities….
I haven’t finished the whole book but I love reading it. And it’s indeed so very sad he’s not alive anymore.

Re: Buddy “I might not reappear again”
No roof, no matter how bad, will keep you… ;-)

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 12:53)

Christina....
Although there are always theories and suspicions surrounding any suicide, sadly it seems both Frank Collins and Charles Bruce chose to end their own lives. I can point you to archived newspaper articles and previous onboard discussions but, no, nothing discussed offboard. I shall leave it to Buddy to discuss anything speculative...

>>By am-i-binned   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 12:57)

Hi AIB
i ordered all those books from the libray and i hope they arive before my holiday!

>>By christina   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 15:58)

Is buddy known for posting speculative stuff?
The reason I ask is I have read a lot of past posts and it would seem as though buddy knows a lot more that she lets on here.
Are you saying am-i-binned that she's a bit of fantasist?
Do you only post factual evidence based posts?
If that is so do you know Andy McNab in person?
You do imply you know more than other people here, how can you unless you are in the McNab family.
Would it be that you are Andy McNab's relative perhaps?
It would be why you would not like any one to know him too well.

>>By chris   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 22:28)

Welcome, Chris...

Oooh, how I wish I were what you're speculating, but I am not an insider, nor am I a relative of Mr. McNab. I am, however, an avid reader and fan of AM/NS and all things SAS-related. If you got the impression I try to imply knowing more than others here, I apologize -- that is definitely not my intention! Quite the contrary, I assume everyone here shares my interest in AM, so I can't resist posting any factual information I find on the internet or in books. Anyone at all could find the same information as I have accumulated; I just provide shortcuts when I find them.

As to your statement, "it would seem as though buddy knows a lot more that she lets on here" -- I believe that is something you should discuss directly with Buddy. And no, I am not saying "that she's a bit of fantasist."

By speculative, I was including her recent intimations of a lurking poster who knows the truth about B20 and posters here who know about AM having a facial scar. These are not facts that can be found on the internet or in books. They are hers, and hers alone, to discuss and share as she chooses, where she chooses, with whomever she chooses.

>>By am-i-binned   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 23:32)

facial scar - on face (obviously), left hand side - lower, caused by 'glassing'

buddy = chris

>>By me   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 23:34)

Welcome, Me...

Nothing personal, please, but I was truly hoping there would never be a response to Buddy's question. Such information seems far too personal (even to someone as passionately obsessed as I am) to be posted in such a public forum...

As to "buddy = chris" -- are you speculating?

>>By am-i-binned   (Sunday, 29 Jun 2003 23:53)

aib, with you on your first comments.

Hi, Me. Gotta ask - why "Me"?

>>By Mhorag   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 00:46)

buddy=chris?

Speculative Me, to say the least.

Did buddy not say she is on a roof in Pembs?

I on the other hand in London in my office just off Poultney St.

>>By chris   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 09:49)

hello all!

aib - the bookshop is called sweetens, it is on deansgate (i think!) in bolton (near manchester) i am sure they would give you a call if you give them your number.
i am def interested in the e-mail buffer - will you post it please?

gotta go - later all :-)

>>By hazel   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 10:55)

And if I go on:
Me = Buddy but Buddy = not me
so who is Me, who am I
Well, I am.. very sorry for posting this. Just fooling around in a sheepish way ;-)

Doubt there much secret on a facial scar - anyone who'd ever met him could know: met him personally or at his publisher's office or on the bus from London to Wales, where ever.
How he got it is another matter. But if it was on a fight in a bar in Hereford - lots of people could know.
Point being - what's the value of this information?

But welcome Me and Chris anyway - tell us how you're interested in Andy McNab, his books I should say (cheerleader habits die hard)

Post traumatical stress disorder
try this site it explains quite a bit on why these guys get so far as to suicide.

>>By boris   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 13:38)

Hi again, Hazel....

Thanks for the info on the bookshop. I'm just afraid they wouldn't take me seriously or won't want the cost of a long-distance phone call seeing as I'm in the US. For me, though, it would be nice just to know... :o)

To defeat programs which scan boards for addresses (part of the reason for the buffer), modify the following -- e mail 4 gnooks at aol dot com -- by changing at and dot to characters and removing all the spaces. Generally, we try to have most of our conversations here onboard, but offboading allow us the option of having private one-on-one exchanges to discuss more in-depth, off-topic, personal, or contentious/thorny issues without disrupting the flow of conversation for everyone else onboard.

Hoi, Lynn...

You've got me grinning with your sheepish ways! And, yes, I think you're quite right that knowledge of the scar needn't be exclusively personal. (Think I really do need a seriously big dose of Litenup these days! Sorry!)

Thanks, Boris...

For the link, very US-vets oriented. Extremely poignant, a Native American Indian vet's prayer: "Oh Grandfather, there is one war left that is raging, worse than all the wars I have survived. Oh Grandfather, I need guidance, patience, understanding as this final war rages within me. Oh Grandfather, help me overcome this turmoil within my heart and mind, bring peace to my mind, end these feelings of hatred, of hurt, of death, of revenge, and replace them with love, compassion, and caring for my people. So I can live the rest of my life in peace."

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 14:52)

Do we have to be an Indian to speak to this Grandfather?
Or does he come in many disguises??

Oh, speaking of disguises.....
Am-I-Binned is not wearing a mask, no matter what´s been implicated.

If doctor´s would know only about diseases if they´d get infected themselves we wouldn´t have one left.

Silly comparison maybe, just to let you know I can vow for
Am-I-Binned, for telling the truth and for being discreet

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 15:35)

Many names but no disguises, Lynn. I believe He is our universal (grand)father -- and the prayer can be anyone's, not just for those suffering from PTSD.

Thank you, Lynn, for standing up and vouching for me -- you are a true friend and sister. I really, really owe AM big time... ;o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 16:16)

A matter of treating people the way you wish to be treated...

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 16:27)

Which was published first The Hit List CR or Firewall AM?
Hey Boris where have you been thankx for the website V. interesting!

>>By christina   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 17:43)

Hi everyone, yes I have been absent for a time. But I was lurking out there and in here aswell.
No, actually I didn't have anything interesting to tell, my books haven't arrived yet, still waiting.
Nice prayer AIB! Maybe we should send it out in the middle-east, so people can stop hurting eachother.

Does anybody know that if SAS have to undergo psichological tests first to enter the regiment. Maybe that could help with the eventual PTSD. I mean it's ok being fisically fit but you have to be mentally ok aswell.

And really AIB you know everything about AM, now just for curiousity how many wives did he really have? And why did they all end up wrong? Maybe he hasn't found the RIGHT WOMAN. So how should she be? Any suggestions?

>>By boris   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 20:58)

Boris,

You've got me grinning! As of now (although I could be wrong), he's with Wife # 5, per the article I sent you, but maybe things have changed since then. Why did they all end up wrong? Uh-um, I dunno -- cuz he didn't meet me yet maybe? LOL!

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 21:17)

no sorry AIB i have to diasgree with you there he is waiting for me lol.

>>By christina   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 22:01)

christina - not if i get there first!!! lol
(how childish?!?!?!?!)

aib - cheers for that really complicated buffer thing! if i figure it out within the next decade or so i will drop you a line!!!
by the way - the talking book was the unabriged one - i really enjoyed it.

are most people in this discussion in the us? anyone from around manchester? (sorry if this has been asked before but time will not permit me to scroll back through all of the previous 47 pages!)

>>By hazel   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 11:06)

Hi Hazel, no I live in Italy although my parents are from the UK. I still have an aunt and uncle + a bunch of cousins out there. As a matter of fact come to think about it ... I wonder.... I have a cousin, he's in his mid 40 now, who was adopted when he was a baby. Joined the army quite young, went of to Germany, got posted in N.Ireland, then I don't know what happened to him . I know he's still out there somewhere. The only thing I know is that he got married several times. Now he couldn't be AM could he? I mean I would have known.

Just a stupid question, what does lol mean??

Still waiting for those books to come. Now AM if you are there mate, you could send me one now couldn't you. If ever you're around my place I have rooms enough. No problem. I mean it's more than 35°C here at the moment, I think you need a rest. You can bring a friend aswell if you want too, or even your wife. I'm harmless, won't bother you at all.

Now to all of you, wich ones are the toughest guys you think? SAS, Delta, Seals, Sog, Marines, etc. etc.

>>By boris   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 12:27)

Found this page by accident, trying to buy AM book for Dad's birthday. Christina if you haven't been on holiday yet Kenfig Hill nature reserve is really pretty - worth a visit if you like that sort of thing. Can't believe he's on wife number five!! There's a good interview with him on the cambridge varisity online site (can't remember webpage) he sounds like a pretty cool bloke.

>>By Beth   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 12:29)

Hey Aib, if he's with wife nr. 5 who was nr. 4?? Was it Jill?
Ooh boy his private life is even worse than a soap. Why doesn't he write a book about that.

>>By boris again   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 12:30)

There is a book about it Boris, Frances Nicholson (wife before Jilly) wrote it. I've read it but I'm not giving any comments about its content on board.

The posters come from all over the place Hazel. I'm from Holland, going through the pages you'll find posters from US as well from Australia, Germany, France, Sweden, Italy... and UK of course. Did I leave anyone out?

So Beth, you bought AM for your dad's birthday?? You are gonna ask it back ones he finished it, right?!
Which one did you buy?

Oh AIB, link for that site was www.movie-mistakes.com

Take care,

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 13:11)

Lynn

Actually I have a confession, his birthday's next week and I couldn't resist so I read it (Liberation Day), feel a little guilty, but he does take ages to read a book so couldn't wait that long. He kept Last Light for ages. Already hinting for Christmas...

>>By Beth   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 13:45)

‘Morning, All!

Hazel…
Sorry if buffer seemed complicated; how ‘bout this – e mail 4 gnooks @ aol . com – just remove the spaces between. I’m not surprised you enjoyed the unabridged audio; Christian Rodska is did an excellent job narrating B20! Most in the US? Not to my knowledge; think it’s just me and one other who lurks here occasionally.

Boris…
Ooooh, interesting family affairs there (vbg!) or the start of a great buddy-challenge story (vbw!)…lol! (laugh out loud!) If AM doesn’t take you up on your kind offer, and if I bring some books, may I? I would love to visit Italy again. Could not possibly answer your “toughest” question, my answer would be biased (vbg, vbw). And, yepper, Jilly was number 4.

Welcome, Beth…
Excellent choice of gifts for your dad! Think this is the interview you mean (remove hard returns where hyperlink wraps):

http://www.varsity.cam.ac.uk/
VarsityOnline/Online2/Content/Life/
StoriesTerm3/191198_macnab.html

Thanks for mentioning this interview; it’s been a while since I read it. A while back on another board, some of us discussed this – imagine being the other party in the fender-bender! lol! Miscellaneous: I believe this interviewer either taped this interview or takes very good shorthand – you can really hear AM speaking….

Lynn...
Thanks for the link! Was drafting the above when you posted. Much too lazy to go back and modify tho… :o) Been thinking of Buddy's chiding regarding Scotland, where we have so many; maybe we should start saying GB instead...
