The cow posted this a while back, you did mean buddy was the cow I think.

Due to McNab's and Ryan's success with books about B20 and a spate of attempted publications by MI5 and MI6 agents, a secret select committee was hastily set up in Whitehall to appraise books written by non-commissioned military personnel and for those working for intelligence directives. Publishers were known to hit panic buttons with many refusing to consider any book that had an SAS slant at the time, which probably accounts for why some bestselling ex military authors are less prevalent and appear to be extinct in todays bookstores. It is also a known fact the MoD presented a secrecy directive to be signed by all special forces personnel, and that Mike Coburn's book received the thumbs down treatment due to his having signed said document.

Great moo tho, ain't she, with balls to match AM's.

>>By jacko   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 13:32)

Sorry, Jacko, your assumption regarding the cow is completely wrong! You'd better go back and re-read -- they had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Buddy, and I especially resent that you would draw such an inference and post it here!

That said, your point is?

>>By am-i-binned   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 14:12)

Hey jacko, if cows ride horses then I pass as a cowgirl, and I'm a dab hand at milking 'em too, (clusters or hand if necessary)

lots of archived articles at: http://www.geocities.com/sascentre/documentation.html

Hello again, Buddy…

I'm sorry, I've obviously struck nerves with you. And I'm assuming it is totally pointless for the cub to ask the lioness to take this offboard, so I will follow up here.

Re: Lynn's "hot news"

Another excellent example of Lynn's sense of humour!

Re: items of interest that you haven't had a chance to vet...smacks of intimidation by illative veto...

I've learned all too well what you've been trying to teach me for so long... Do not trust blindly.

Re: Chiefbear's plagiarised post

Chiefbear did not give any credit as to the source of the information; it was misleadingly presented as Chiefbear's own insider info. To quote: "It's time you heard the god honest truth around here instead of myth...." Chiefbear's post was definitely interesting, yes, but would have been equally or more so if honestly presented.

Re: follow-up or pre-posts to Chiefbear's ref to Whitehall Committee...

I'm only justified in commenting on my own postings to Chiefbear. I would have liked my second question answered at that time, but it seems you've answered it now on Chiefbear's behalf: "Oh, and by the way, for those who might be interested and don't know the Whitehall system, Whitehall committees oft consist of no more than one or two members, which constitutes "vacant chair" of senior ministerial officiated civil servant" whom signs on dotted line at prompt from "seated investigative source". " Thank you.

Re: what's your problem with Chiefbear having quoted an article...

Misrepresentation is my problem. I quote very, very often, but I ref the sources. I do not present as my own original words. Look again at Chiefbear's posting and tell me where Chiefbear makes clear the source of the information.

Re: am-i-binned, on numerous occasions, quoted "word for word"... did you plagiarise...

Do I not reference the sources of my quotes?

Re: Who mentioned close-up enemies?

You did, I thought. I quote: "Think about it, seriously! Any one of you could be the enemy, the real enemy of specific ex SAS personnel, more importantly, their whereabouts and that of wives, ex wives, and children!!!! "

Re: kidnappers/Int network/new world persuasions...

Yes, you may be completely right in this. But then again, if such people are so hell-bent, I don't really think, as you said, our "mundane" conversations and "pages of nonsensical blabberings" would contribute anything of significant value, do you?

Re: I don't recall saying SAS personnel felt "threatened"...

No? Then please explain how else I should understand you: "Genuine SAS personnel who drop by here will either dodge round the block or completely vanish as soon as any one of you starts demanding validation of military service..."

Re: as soon as any one of you starts demanding validation of military service via e-mail correspondence. What is wrong with my saying that?

Interesting point, because I know I am not the only one to suggest offboarding to troublesome or questionable posters. Would you like me to tell you when you made the same offboarding offers too?

Re: "prove who you are" is as rampant now...

And with good reason, considering the "pretenders" who've been popping up intermittently here. Are you saying it is better to trust blindly now? What of all those warnings you keep giving, particularly relating to offboarding with new posters?

Re: You've lost some excellent boarders, interestingly controversial at times...

Yes, we have, but we have also gained several new posters as well, and there are others who are still with us but just not posting actively.

Re: If person/s decline invitation to offboard by definition of no interest to do so, it isn't long before they are successfully ostracized (singled out) on credibility issues...

Explain this please. Please give me instances. Because as far as I know, the circle of offboarders has not changed at all; it is still the same core group. Absolutely no one new has indicated any interest whatsoever in offboarding on a personal level, which is fine. I have not posted the new "buffer" emailbox; I have not openly invited anyone -- I've only indicated that the option exists.

Re: do you accept that you hounded me for every finite detail you could possibly glean?

Is that really how you saw my offboarding with you? Then I am truly sorry. If I "hounded" it was only in effort to understand, not to extract details. Think carefully. My follow-up questions were always in response to your cryptic messages, asking you to clarify, to explain, to set me straight. You yourself have said that you never answer direct questions. How else was I to understand you without asking you more questions? Would you have preferred that I didn't care at all about what you said, what you meant? I will admit, when I thought we'd finally crossed to friendlier footing, I did ask personal things, but I offered personal as well -- exchanges I thought were in friendship, not meant to elicit finite details. But was I not also very careful not to pursue sensitive secrets, leaving them alone, knowing that you wanted/needed to keep precious confidences, respecting your desire to do so? You have absolutely no idea of how it hurts me to realize what you're saying to me now, do you?

>>By am-i-binned   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 16:15)

Thank you very much, Buddy, for the info on the geocities archive of SAS-related articles... definitely a most excellent referral! Disappointing tho that some links to the older archives appear no longer unavailable. I may try contacting telegraph.co.uk to see if those articles can still be accessed. If I find out yes, I will post...

Hi

Can anyone clue me in as to whether this is the place to discuss AM’s writing? Background: I’m a Scot, the only run-in I have ever had was with the tax woman (I lost!), grew up reading Charlie Muffin and Quiller, Shakespeare is my literary god and AM has joined my list of authors-I-will-do-without to buy. I like his books just because. Until recently, I had two jobs, but now that I’ve dropped one, I’ve got the time to read and surf the net again, and I found you lot after I read the transcript of the World Festival book thing. If not, then maybe somebody kind wouldn’t mind pointing me in the right direction?

>>By Mhorag   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 20:35)

I could quote AM on the subject of betrayal and hurt!

The above goes both ways in our case, and yes, I'm still in contact with several original offboarders, plus a few who joined later...

Ref to mundane blabbering (literally) in respect of recent activity...

Does it matter who people really are, or who they pretend to be on the board? Anyone with an ounce of sense can see right through a fraudulant prat, and if every one is cautious in what is passed on to others in offboard correspondence then common sense prevails. Afer all, that's where the mishaps inevitably occur, and where heated arguments inadvertantly lead to indiscretions!

Misrepresentation is a b****y nit-picking argument to put forth on the subject of articles/quotes.

Like I said, who cares where the news info comes from or who wrote it? It's not a novel! Hence, I tend to post URLS rather than infringe ludicrous pickety rules and guidelines = politically correct posting...

Your floor!!!

Humour is great, Lynn, but to newcomers or those popping in to see how the list is looking your recent post was how you say: pointless.
With hindsight, pointed!!! Gosh, and sheep are supposed be all cool by June - sheared!!!

On the book front, do you know why AM's Dark Winter publishing date has been moved from Oct to Nov? Must have missed his publishing deadline, reckon?

>>By buddy   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 20:44)

Mhorag, you're in the right place. Take tea with Am-I-Binned, who will assist in every way possible to make you feel welcome.

Shakespeare your God, mine too. Dickens the backbone of nursery days, commercial fiction the devil incarnate = the corruption factor of reading books by the likes of AM undercover in bed...

>>By buddy   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 20:53)

Welcome, Mhorag....

Yes, indeed, this is the place to discuss AM's writing! To my knowledge there is only one other AM message board (which has been relatively inactive for a while now), and no specific AM newsgroups exist yet.

Is there anything in particular that you'd like to discuss first? We have an ongoing challenge from one of our regular posters for favourite one-liners from AM's books. Also, much time and space has been devoted to speculating on the casting of Crisis Four. As you can see, we have pages and pages of postings, but if you don't have time to go through and catch up, that's fine, because we all tend to be more than happy to go over and over ground that has been trodden many times before.... no such thing as too much of a good thing.... (vgb! very big grin)...

New series of Ultimate Force starts this Wednesday (18th June) 21:00 BST ITV1.   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 21:21)

It's a shame when buddy has to post as jacko and jacko has to post as buddy etc. It's so obvious they are one and the same. Why can't everyone pick ONE name and stick to it instead of posting time and again as a different persona?

I am glad I live in Spain now. I feel safer than if I lived near some of you..........................

Brand new version of The One That Got Away out this year in UK by CR. There is an intro in which he explains life since, and why some of the critisism he got was unjust ie Vince Phillips family etc etc

V interesting it'd be good if AM and his publishers got together for a similar B20 thingy   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 21:42)

Holland, Friday the 13th.

Hi Mhorag, which AM books have you read?
I’m sorry but I don;t understand your expression “list of authors-I-will-do-without to buy “. English is not my language, maybe you care to explain?

Who-am-i, most of us are pretty harmless. I for one could only bleat you to death.
You’ve got a good point there, I prefer posters using one and the same name too.
So, who are you ;-)

Re: it'd be good if AM and his publishers got together for a similar B20 thingy
I don’t know who posted this but would he/she say what he likes to be changed or added if there would be a brand new version of B20, like TOTGA?
I think Andy was far more protective towards Vince.

>>By Lynn   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 22:34)

who-am-i, your wires are sure crossed!

I'm female, and would imagine Jacko is male.

I'm more than amused each time I come back to the board (as a one time original who came over from allreaders along with Lynn & Am-i-Binned) that spates of unknown newbies immediately step centre stage - uncannily spooky...

I must trigger a magnet for wannabe undercover nerds...if you haven't read from page one your missing vital clues as o who is really who around here...

>>By buddy   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 23:49)

Here you go, everyone, a reminder of my second ever post on this board: page 1

Well I'm new here, have read all visible postings and would be quite interested to know whose read what on the SAS front -my being a Brit/SAS widow, writer too...

Two Chris Ryan novels, one Andy McNab, one Johnny (Two Combs) Howard - read to date at this end -

Jack Ramsay 1st edition in the post
----------

Obviously newcomers don't read the archives, so maybe it would be a good idea for oldies to post reminders of when they first arrived here...

>>By buddy   (Friday, 13 Jun 2003 23:59)

Well buddy do you think I'm an undercover nerd too.I don't think you're a brit sas-widow. Who are you for real.
And to Mhorag, welcome to this board. I wish I was in Scotland now, it's too hot where I live. Sas should do summer selection here, I've allready lost 1,5 kg in a week.

>>By boris   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 00:28)

Ciao Boris (?) You're the one who supposedly lives in Italy, Si? I'm fond of Italy, so tell me where you're favourite place is, maybe we might have something in common! Trouble is Italy has so many beautiful spots, and everyone tends to say Rome, Milan, or Venice (the Carnival), but they're the tourist hits, and if you live there you'll know the places where the Italians go, like that little place just south of Venice, the name quite escapes me, but oh so beautiful!!!

You've instantly challenged my validity/credibility when you don't know me, why is that? This is precisely the one thing I was talking about a few posts up from yours!!! What makes you think I'm not an SAS widow?

If you read through the posts from page 1-39 and ask Am-i-binned for backroom feedback articles, though she may be reluctant to pass on much of what I gave her, you'll see that some elements of the information could only come from insider knowledge, much of it not available in SAS books.

Post an e-mail address and I'll show you who I am and tell you who I know: inclusive AM!!! Good enough? I might even give you a few uncloaked pics taken on Pen-y-Fan, or maybe you'd prefer pics of men in the buff fooling around in the African bush, or better still some mobile shots...They are inhouse pics as taken by SAS men themselves...Of course, I won't dispatch the pics to an anonymous e-mail address such as Yahoo/Hotmail/other - it must be a genuine home usage e-mail portal so that I know who you are!

>>By buddy   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 08:55)

Boris & other disbelievers:

On the e-mail front - by all means utilise anon e-mail portal for initial contact purposes - direct from the message board!!!

One thing about offboarding, Am-I-Binned, you're right, you can sort out the bluffers from the kosher, very quickly!!!!

>>By buddy   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 09:02)

HI

Re anon email portal......
Buddy again i dont understand you.

>>By christina   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 10:13)

Buddy, please. I do not and will not play games, particularly cat-and-mouse. I know I will always lose.

Regarding my betrayal of you, I do not understand. I do fear for you, though, especially when your posts seem to blatantly reveal things you know I deliberately avoided asking you in private -- things I did not ask out of respect: for you, for your privacy, for your promises, for your avowed commitment to never betraying intimate confidences. Please, who is truly betraying you? Not I....

And now, as I write this, I'm wondering -- does this reply from am-i-binned actually serve your purposes? Does it lend the credibility you seek? Should I even be answering you? Could my reply be misconstrued as a betrayal also? You see, this is why I do not play games; I am not good at them... I never know the right answers....

>>By am-i-binned   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 10:28)

To Buddy, ok I'll give you my email adress but don't
f..k with me. I warn you.
And yes I do live in Italy, in Tuscany as a matter of fact, for now we have around 35°C it's been lasting for two weeks now. Places to visit here are well Florence offcourse, Siena and the wine country (chiantishire) Lucca, Pisa, San Gemignano, Volterra,
la Garfagnana, everything is beautifull from the cities to the countryside to the sea, best place to go for the sun is the Cinque terre,or Portofino, Rapallo, Santa Margerita, if you want the beach you go to Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi (many Vips there) lots of nightclubs and restaurants everywhere.
There is even an american military camp near Pisa, Camp Darby.
Hey I didn't know Aib was female. Who else is on this board.
Have to go now.

>>By boris   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 13:48)

Thanks for the compliment, Boris! Hope you're not disappointed. And congrats on the 1.5 -- a third of your goal already! I'd say you're gonna be lookin' good come your holiday, no probs!

Hello, who-am-i. As Lynn said, we're mostly pretty harmless here -- but it does seem like we keep going through edgy cycles. I think it may be growing pains but ... uh-oh! ... no, wait! ... just flashed on a conversation between Sarah and Nick in CF -- what if I blame it on PMS/PMT? (ref pg 3, post 8) (vbg, vbw!)

jacko and/or Jacko -- are you one in the same? -- the Air Marshall from Aussie-land who joined us briefly on pgs 34-35...

Buddy, wouldn't it be easier if you posted your own email address so you can be contacted directly -- rather than requiring others to post their personal email addresses in this public forum?

The question of Vince Phillips in TOTGA vs. B20 reminded me of a question I posted a while back, which I think got lost in the shuffle: Does anyone know if the other members of B20 (namely, Dinger, Stan/Mal, Mark/Mike, and Vince Phillips) received any medals, awards, recognition? Andy only mentions Chris, Bob, and Legs/Steve. Would only some of the patrol have been recognized, while others not, considering what each of them individually suffered/endured, including Vince?

And, yes, Lynn, I agree Andy was far more protective of Vince in his book, but I don't think that was as true in the filmed version of B20. I found some of the variations from the book a bit disconcerting. Also, since I've not seen the film version of TOTGA, could someone who has tell me how closely the film follow Chris' book?

>>By am-i-binned   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 16:12)

AIB.I watched The real B20 documentary, on the discovery channel, last night, and Michael Asher mentioned that Vince didn't recieve a medal. As to the others i haven't got a clue. i suppose if AM got one,Dinger and Mark would have got one to.

As for the recent postings, the sooner DW comes out the better, then maybe people will have something constructive to talk about.

>>By scouse   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 17:26)

Hello again, Scouse. So glad to see you; we were gettin' worried!

May I impose? Could you give some more specifics on the "Real Bravo Two Zero" program you saw or could you find it on the net and post a link. I've tried looking all through the Discovery Channel website and even Google but without success. It may be a US/UK difference, too, because when the program "Bravo Two Zero: Behind Iraqi Lines" aired on the History Channel, the UK program aired a day later than it did here in the US.

Fanx in advance....

>>By am-i-binned   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 20:23)

still confused what did buddy mean by anon email portal thingy!?! what is it

i really also want DW to come out soon when i get some cash im going to pre-order it on amazon yeah!

>>By christina   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 20:52)

Don't feel alone about the "anon e-mail portal" thingy, Christina -- I'm not sure either. Maybe Buddy will explain or post her own email address to simplify matters for us.

As far as pre-ordering DW from Amazon, I think if you use a credit card, you can go ahead and pre-order right now. I don't think they charge you until the book is actually published and shipped.

>>By am-i-binned   (Saturday, 14 Jun 2003 21:27)

AIB.The program is probably only showing on the uk network. It's also on tonight at 1.00 am.
It was quite a good programme.Asher starts out, and finds the wadi that the guys were lying up in,and he gets quite emotional (no idea why).He also visits the bedouin tribe, who were the first to spot the patrol.
There is almost a surreal moment at the end, when he brings home Vinces bino's(supposedly),and his family are all sitting crying and kissing them.
