Tom in Firewall was one of my favourites. You couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for him.
>>By Sheba (Saturday, 31 May 2003 11:08)
Hmmm.... guess LD just came out in Canada....

Re: Firewall
Yes, Sheba, I liked Tom very much too. I also liked Vorsim (Eight). The way AM created them as almost laughable, slightly tragic characters -- a fine balance -- made what happens to them all the more poignant for me...
Shall we speculate on the hypothermia descriptions? Based on Dinger's experience with Steve Lane and a bit of Vince as well? Although AM does talk about other hypothermia incidents in his books, including two in IA that were Selection-related....
Oooh, almost forgot! Sheba -- did I ever ask you about Constantin's nephews?
>>By am-i-binned (Saturday, 31 May 2003 15:13)
a-i-b, I'm probably setting myself up for a 'missed-the-obvious' fall, and I'll no doubt kick myself, but please go on, re: Constantin's nephews???
>>By Sheba (Saturday, 31 May 2003 15:32)
No, no, Sheba! It's not obvious at all; in fact, it's a relentless question for me. My theory is that Constantin's nephews were actually killed off by a ruthless (or sloppy) editor somewhere between drafts... and now only Constantin and AM, not even Nick, know who they were and what really happened to them.... ;o)
(earliest ref here: pg 1, 5th pos, last sentence)

thanx for the ref page i really didnt kno what you where on about AIB
Re firewall: i didnt like liv though she was a cow!
but i think my favourite charachter is.........................................
>>By christina (Saturday, 31 May 2003 19:23)
Liv was a cow? Well, at least you didn't say stupid cow.
And .................. is your favorite character? In which book was he, or is it a she?
Who was/is my favorite....mmm (no not him) I'll have to give that some serious thinking. I'll let you know.

Has any of you seen this site - nice sound effect!! http://www.randomhouse.co.nz/features/McNAB/main.html
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 31 May 2003 20:44)
It says that Andy McNab is now Transworld's number one thriller writer in the UK with 450,000 books sold.
Do you think they now know the expression "Looking out for number One" ???????
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 31 May 2003 20:48)
Hey lynn
that site proves that there will be a CF movie though
Re lynn do you think they: VBG
Liv aint stupid though is she! she is just a cow
>>By christina (Saturday, 31 May 2003 20:57)
You're right, on the site it is "There will be a CF movie" Big Q's : when and how?
Ok Chrissy, just a cow... hope she's not based on anyone real like other NS characters... or she might come after you VBG. Aaaah I know.. it already happenend...???!!! Are you ok??? In our news yesterday - a woman walking through nature was attacked by cow, the cow took her on her horns (and don't laugh, this cow has horns, it was a Scottish Highlander - yes they live in Holland too.!!) So that were you and Liv..!!!
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:16)
Just in case: I did not make this up, this was a real news item yesterday !!!!! (or the newspeople made it up - that's always possible)
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:17)
im ok just a few cuts and bruises but thanx for asking. she was a real cow and yeah she did have horns and they hurt. but enough about the past lets talk about my fave charachter is............................
>>By christina (Saturday, 31 May 2003 21:36)
Lynn! How shocking! Did the article say if the cow is okay?
Glad you're okay, Christina, but I think the run-in rattled you more than you know. When has a cow ever been described like this:
... I switched my attention to Val's slapper. I'd thought it was her high heels that had made her look so tall in Finland, but I could see now that her legs did that all on their own. She was maybe just over six feet tall in her square-toed cowboy boots, which made a slow rhythmic clack as her heels hit the floor. She walked like a supermodel on a catwalk. Her legs were sheathed in a pair of Armani jeans, the logo on the back pocket moving up and down in time with her heels. I couldn't keep my eyes off it. Slipping the pistol into my right-hand pocket, I moved the phone into my left, all the time looking at her and thinking Armani should be paying her for this. I was almost tempted to buy myself a pair. ...
LOL! One of my favorite one-liners from Firewall!
Hmmm, "not based on anyone real".... I dunno, Lynn -- shades of FN to me -- long legs, six foot, dark blonde, and a few other similarities.... vbg! vbw!
>>By am-i-binned (Saturday, 31 May 2003 22:04)
come to think of it was strange looking cow and it did kind of look like FN and liv. but i didn't notice it when it attacked me for abvious reasons.
omg help me i can hear mooing from down the street i think she is back!!!!
>>By christina (Saturday, 31 May 2003 22:18)
hey just been on dean's website and looked at the feedback he was given from people AIB you were mentioned a lot but sorry i didn't mention you in my email but it did get showed though its the bottom one with the initails CM. And i have actually had some replys off him helping me with my writing. what a nice bloke! but i still love AM though he will always be the best!!!!!!!!
My favourite charachter i think is kelly because she changed nick he is was more human when he was with her i think but not as much as carrie changed him she made him all soft and i prefer the sad nick stone
I wonder if carrie is based on andybody (got that word from you lot really like it and am going to use it) real life and if so who do you think it is?
ok so i rambled on ther sorry i have just given myself a mental slap (because i am mental,i think you will agree) not to ramble on again. see im doing it again. slap slap
>>By christina (Saturday, 31 May 2003 22:29)
Oh-no! Christina! That's not the cow, it's Freddie .... he's back from the dead again! Hoarwithy, help!
>>By am-i-binned (Saturday, 31 May 2003 22:40)
I know you want fav characters, Christina, but Firewall and Paul R's Mission Impossible are way too enticing right now....
... She started gobbing off and was clearly asking me something. I waved my hand politely to say no thanks but she became very animated. When I waved my hand again and shook my head with a nice Australian smile, she reached into her coat and out came the same sort of book of receipts that Mrs Glum had used in the ticket office. I realized she was the ticket collector, who was obviously running a newspaper concession on the side. Like me she was taking the money where she could find it. I fished out my slip of paper. She inspected it, grunted, gave it back and swayed with the momentum of the train on to the next passenger, no doubt telling him that the village idiot was on board. Given what I was about to try, she wasn't far wrong. ...
