Still hanging in here just don't get much time for posting.

As a Londoner I can catagorically say McNab doesn't do saaf London much any more. More rrrrr in his speech these days which I suppose comes from living in Hereford for so long. I fink he does saaf London to please his old mates. They talk quite different up there in Hereford. Sean Bean still goes all Sheffield to remind every one where he comes from. He can talk quite posh when he wants to. Who could play Nick Stone? I wouldn't mind that much so long as they choose an English actor.

Hi Georgia/Sheba,

Didn’t say Hi to you yet because lately nothing (no one) seems to be what it looks like on this site – but then we do like plot changing so I’m not really complaining.

Have you two seen our earlier posts? We have talked about who to play Nick Stone (page 3). It was hot topic for a while. Sean Bean didn’t do bad at all indeed (part maybe for the accent, but that’s not something I notice since English is not my language – well, let’s say it hasn’t been until I came here, lately I’m having trouble with my Dutch because the English word slips out first) Andyway, Sean Bean: not bad but unlikely since he played Andy himself in B20.
Definitely NOT BRAD PITT, sorry guys but this is a sore point with me ;-)
A little while ago I mentioned Colin Farrell too after seeing The Recruit, anyone seen that movie? I thought there were some similarities when compared to Crisis Four.
One of you mentioned Remote Controle beeing filmed first.. I absolutely agree it should have!!! Beats me why they would start with Crisis Four, I think RC would make a great movie BUT while discussing there was also a lot of talk about Hollyweird disastrous capabilities of ruining a perfect good story for money’s sake. And Am-I-Binned posted something she found (Times Online, October 05, 2002) “....Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackson and Clive Owen have been slated for the role of the hero Nick Stone” I’m very worried of being very dissapointed in final choice. We alle have our own shaped image of Nick Stone – it’ll be hard to please us.

Now for us ''not insiders when it comes to UK accents" what does 'saaf' mean. Is it possible to explain or does one have to hear it? Maybe you could fill us in here. Fanx.

Lynn

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 20 May 2003 23:53)

Hi Lynn, apologies for that 'in' joke. This is gonna be difficult to explain, and I'll probably end up confusing you AND me, but here goes:
South Londoners talk quite differently to other Londoners. When saying the word 'SOUTH' for example, they are slightly lazy. Breaking the word down into three, a north Londoner like me, would say south, pronouncing it S-OUR-TH. A south Londoner would pronounce the 'OUR' bit 'AAA' and drop any 'TH' into an 'F'. It would almost sound like they were saying 'sarf' london instead of 'south' london.

S**t, told you I'd get confused! Hope it helped and if anyone is from sarf of the river, please don't take offence as none was intended!

RE: Who to play Nick Stone? Here's a thought, seeing as he made his acting debut in Ultimate Force, how about Chris Ryan...........;-)

>>By Sheba   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 00:53)

RE: Who to play Nick Stone?

Instead of Sean Bean, how about Mr Bean - Rowan Atkinson?

Fair one, stupid idea, I'm tired, time for bed. night night.

>>By Hoarwithy R D   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 01:11)

Rowan Atkinson? -- hmmm.... how 'bout as Metal Mickey (except that he's not shaped like a beachball). And speaking of Metal Mickey:

"If you knew her like I do, Nick, you'd know that she's a wonderful woman. Far too good for a man like that." Someone must have powered up a mobile near us -- Metalhead was off on a tangent. "And she wears such wonderful clothes...."

Since I never mind well-trodden ground, how about not only speculating on Nick but also on the casting of Sarah. My choice is Carrie Anne Moss (Trinity in The Matrix) since she was always the image in my mind while I read CF anyway. New ground would be -- who should be cast as Josh? and Kelly?

>>By am-i-binned   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 08:16)

Oh, you got me grinning big time Sheba..... Chris Ryan !!
Just the idea... LOL !!
And Hoar'y ... MR Bean ??? I'm missing some tulips....
you wouldn't have.....????? ;-)

Thanks for the saaaf explanation, I didn't realize there was even a difference between North and South. Holland is so very small, if one has a big nose he could be living in the South, tip of his nose being in the North.

Carrie Ann still a good choice AIB, Josh.. Lennie James would be nice but reverse problem... Lennie is British and Josh is an American, or did he come from Britain originally... have to check but lazy.... do you know AIB??

Kelly... any children we know now will be too old when that movie is ready for filming

Quickie before work.

Can we be sure the film is in the making? It was said in the office the other day that it has hit problems with censorship. For your internal memos I work at the local film studios soon to move to its new base in South Wales, and sometimes things are overheard in passing/loitering. Must dash. Work beckons. Uhhhhhhh.

I'm on my coffee break and had to post this. It's from a New York gossip file.

I went out to dinner with a friend at Swifty's. It was busy, but not the usual bustle. At the table next to us were Lynn Nesbit, the high-powered literary agent, with Casey Ribicoff and the great Pablo, the make-up artist. At the table across from them, Peter Bacanovic was rapt in conversation with a woman whom I didn't recognize but who looked like an older literary agent or a lawyer. And at the table next to them was Dr. Nathan Saint-Amand and his son and a friend of the son. And next to them Mario Buatta, the Prince of Chintz, who decorated Swifty's and is also said to be an investor in the place, was entertaining Aileen Mehle, the glamorous society columnist and George and Carol McFadden.

Meanwhile, at the table beyond them, was beautiful sunbleached, Doris Day-ish looking Pauline Boardman Pitt and her daughter Serena. Then a very long and tall young man, barely more than a boy compared to my years of walking the boards on Broadway, and looking tentative as he entered — but very tall — in a dark suit, caused quite a stir. If my eyes were not deceiving me, Lynn Nesbit and tall boy were more than just good friends. My dinner partner said he was her new boy, a British SEAL. We'll go with that one for now. His non de plume is Andy Mcnab and I had hoped to catch Lynn usng his birth name. We were unfortunately too far distant from their table. Later on they were joined by English loveys, one who picked his left nostril and quite turned me off any thought of oyster for seconds.

On the other side of our corner table were Alexandra Stoddard and Peter Brown, a couple who go to Swifty's possibly more often than I do. Mr. Brown is a lawyer and Ms. Stoddard is an interior design consultant and Art of Living author and lecturer. And just beyond them, locked in intense conversation, was the former social columnist, Vogue editor/contributor, now novelist and editor-at-large of the NY Times Magazine no less.

There's nothing else mentioned about Andy McNab and Lynn Nesbit. She's big news in Hollywood and if McNab had his legover it might be why he clinched a substantial film deal. I'll keep trawling the society film files during lunch breaks and see what if any thing else pops up for Andy McNab.

A few things:

A couple of pages back, some were minging about other SAS men unable to get published due to Andy McNab being on the National Security Board. What surprises me is that given the debacle of his escapade in Iraq in the First Gulf War, how he managed to aquire the post to begin with. That is not to say I would have done a better job by any stretch.

It also seems, shall I be so bold as to say, "arrogant" of him to shut down the attempts of his other comrades to have their say in regards to their own experiences. As if McNab desires to be the quentessential SAS hero. Like he wants an action figure of him made or something. oooh wait.. there IS one actually.

http://www.21stcenturytoys.com/products/productdetail.asp?part_no=CP22230

So he has an action figure, several books published, a PS II game, a film of his story and another in the works, a position where he can determine what may be a breach of National Security and a nice fat stack of cash to sit on. What more could the man possibly want? His own theme park? A talk show ala Jerry Springer with ghetto women shouting "dat be mah baby daddy!"---the crowd going wild..."An-dy! An-dy! An-dy!" He would even get to beat up some of his guests. (actually, that MIGHT be kind of cool) Not meaning to ruffle any feathers, but jeeze! He really needs to loosen up a little.

Why not have other SAS men publish in the US? Americans LOVE that stuff. And even if the UK says "that's a breach of national security", so what? UK law has no jurisdiction in the US. As long as it makes money Americans give not a fig. They don't even care if it's true or remotely accurate. ie. Patriot Games. Now seriously...what Irish Revolutionary grouping would call themselves the Ulster Liberation Army? That sounds like an uber-Loyalist Nationalist paramilitary or something. So, get the other SAS men to publish over here.

Now---who to play Nick Stone? I agree, NOT Brad Pitt. I like Brad Pitt, but if anyone ever saw The Devil's Own or Seven Years in Tibet they could tell straight away, accents are NOT the man's strength. Colin Farrell might do. I thought maybe Gary Oldman even though he is sort of wirey in stature. Or maybe even Liam Neeson...he's a big mean looking bastard and I've actually heard him pull off a reasonable English accent although it sounded more Liverpool than London. Can't recall the film, however. And, he is technically British (Ballymena, Ulster).

>>By Was Fenian Bastard Now Just Paddy   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 12:03)

Re AM on the whitehall commitee.i thought all sas soldiers after 1996, signed a confidentiality agreement, thereby stopping them from disclosing any information re the regiment, including, books.if this is the case,i doubt it even exists

Re CF..Gary Oldman is a great choice to play NS,and being a cockerny boy,the accent won't be a problem, but knowing the way hollywood is,and if there is a huge pile of money behind it,their bound to go for a big time charlie.
Jason statham would be my choice,he played one of the gang in Lock stock and two smoking barrels,he's the guy with the broken nose and the steely look.

>>By scouse   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 14:55)

Can you could be a wee bit more discriptive of this Jason fellow? Ive seen LS&2SB like five times, but admittedly, the only one that really stands out is Vinny Jones the footballer. I still think Gary Oldman would totally work.. the man is phenomenal and versitlie as all sorts of hell. Look ay his roles in Hannibal, The Fifth Element, Sid & Nancy, True Romance...all of which did really well in the States. Gary has "stopping power" in the US film industry.

Just my humble opinion.

>>By Just Plain Paddy   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 17:02)

Nah, Gary is perfectly casted for prisoner of Azkaban, no Nick for me. But Jason Statham.. yes I can agree to that.
I feel obligated to say I’m definitely not Lynn Nesbit.. but I don’t know if it pleases me to say so. She’s obviously spending her time more interesting than me.…

Lynn

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 17:04)

Ahhhh not vinnie jones..to his credit he was good in LS&TSB,but i don't think he is a leading man.
Jason statham is the bald one,who was also in snatch, and is going out with the model Kelly(something or another)

In fact the more i think about it,i can actually picture Oldman in the role,he has that little bit of danger about him, which as we all know NS has in bundles...Anyway it'll probably be Will Smith

>>By scouse   (Wednesday, 21 May 2003 17:21)

Re the roles of sarah and josh.
Idon't think trinity ftom the matrix is pretty enough,i see a more beautiful tom boy type for sarah, someone like cameron diaz, she has proved herself in a few good roles lately.plus she is beautiful and has the pulling power.
Maybe, Will smith could have a role as josh, though i don't think the parts big enough.i think if they can get some big names to play these other roles, then NS could be played by some up and coming young brit.

Wakey wakey.

Own up now, who else was present at Matrix Reloaded last night? You can't fib because I was there. (perk of the job) Rat-assed after I was but I'm quite used to burning candles at both ends. Off to work right now blurry eyed and will probably go head to pillow by coffee break but I'll manage to look wide awake with silly grin. (match sticks).

Hallo All...

Re: Casting Calls

I could see Cameron Diaz as having that nose-twitching, radiant, almost childlike grin, Scouse, but I don't see her as deep and dark enough inside to be Sarah (per Nick: straight dark brown hair, large brown eyes, high cheekbones, slightly too large nose, nearly always too serious mouth, no old age laugh lines for her!). Jude Law is absolutely a personal favorite of mine, but he doesn't seem rough enough around the edges for Nick. Now Oldman for Nick is one I would never have thought of, J P Paddy (good name! my fingers thank you!) but, I could sorta see him. But if choice were Gary or Jude, I'd take take eye candy--Jude. Sean Bean and/or Viggo Mortensen, however, are my preferences for Nick. Will Smith might actually be a hoot as Josh! And, Lynn, you're right, anybody suggested now for Kelly might be headed for college by the time filming starts it seems.

Re: Voluntary Research

Thank you, Georgia, for doing so much research -- lots of very interesting reading from those four hyperlinks you found. Wanted to let you know, though, that the source files for the NY Gossip item appear to be corrupted or compromised, because the original article says the very tall dark man was with Serena and he's the son of Lord Charles Churchill--no mention whatsoever of AM or the two English loveys. Do you think someone's tampering in earnest or just pulling your leg? Either way, no biggie, since the article's old anyway -- Jan 17, 2001.

And, oooh, I do envy you, Georgia! Matrix Reloaded -- now that's a whole different kind of virtual reality! Yepper, woulda liked to have been there, seen that!

Re: Grin Factor

Thanks too, J P Paddy, for the good chuckles! Liked your link to the boy toy (wink) -- funny or what! Especially when rotating at maximum speed! LOL! And, oh, saints preserve us! Pleeeeez, not another Jerry Springer show! Even if it were An-dy! An-dy!... I'd be forced into personally going out and trying to get my hands on loads of that P for Plenty stuff !!!

>>By am-i-binned   (Thursday, 22 May 2003 19:30)

Sorry Georgia,

Andy's neither young or tall!!!!! Someone's pulling your leg!

Anyone in the UK seen that new programme with ex-burglers raiding peoples homes then advising them on security etc? The black guy IS Josh!! Couldn't believe it when I saw it, he was exactly as AM had built him in my mind, stocky, black - but not too dark, roughed up face - shame about the brummy accent though!

Lynn

>>By Lynn   (Thursday, 22 May 2003 20:49)

Oh no Mr Hoarwithy, not young, 44 is our Andy. Old enough to be my dad but rather tasty all the same and I know how tall he is. Several hands above my eye level at tiptoe kiss height and I am no dwarf.

Ooooh am-i-binned. Sharp! Had you worried though, hee, hee. Follow your dream, unless it’s the one where you’re in your underwear standing in the middle of a rush hour on Platform 4.

Matrix Reloaded. Another world, another world. The special effects was truly breathtaking and the fight scenes fab.

Has any one read Soldier of the Queen by Bernard O'Mahoney

It is a bit grim but my goodness does it show a different side to the Northern Irish problems.

Georgia - now I definately know you're on a different planet! Believe me sweetheart, if you'd slept with Andy McNab, you wouldn't be troubling us with the gory details! If now you're saying he wasn't young, why say it in the first place? Go back to your TALL YOUNG lover, but don't waste our time on the AM forum...
Don't mean to be nasty but hey, can't be doing with timewasters/dreamers......

>>By Hoarwity R D   (Thursday, 22 May 2003 23:51)

No more than a boy? Sorry Georgia, just read your post. AM is PAST middle-age, but you said no more than a boy? (plus AM is not TALL and definately not THIN) perhaps you've been had?...

>>By Sheba   (Thursday, 22 May 2003 23:58)

Gee, thanks, fellas!

No, not worried at all, Ms. aka Georgia. In fact, it's not the least bit nippy here on the Platform 4 with these kind gents so swiftly offering their cloaks! (Now I may be blushing a little, but, hey, what's that amongst friends?)

By the way, it's 43 -- crap math skills, remember? December 1959 = 43 (pg 10). And it's 5'10"-11" -- same height and build as Frank Collins...

>>By am-i-binned   (Friday, 23 May 2003 00:56)

Hoar'y my dad would have punched Andy's lights out if he thought I had slept with him when I was 9 yrs old and we lived just along from him. You have got a wild imagination you have. Lynn's tulips must be real good rap-Charlie. Tell me when and where I said I slept with our man and what gory details? My dad said am-i-binned would loop on his gag about Swifty's and he wasn't wrong. I wish he had stayed around to see what you said hee hee. I know how tall my dad is and I know how tall Andy is. You got a be a real thick person to believe Andy (stupid name considering his own is better) is going to give you a full ID on him when he hides out from his readers. Do you know how high the average door frame in the UK is? That will tell you how tall he is.

>>By georgia   (Friday, 23 May 2003 09:59)

Georgia, just re-read my postings and I apologise for the way they came across - that wasn't how it was intended - I'll try and keep my imagination under wraps in future :0)

There aren't that many men over 6ft tall in the regiment - about less than half. As well as the obvious - remain grey etc. smaller guys find selection easier because they have a lower centre of gravity and find it easier to move quickly carrying large heavy bergens. I wouldn't expect AM to give his readers a full detailed description of himself as you rightly say. Let me put it this way, I'm 6ft 4in, and can see his bald patch without standing on tippy-toes...

>>By Hoarwithy R D   (Friday, 23 May 2003 11:29)

Here's my casting lists i) fantasy for fun ii) for real - any jobs going on the filming of CF?

i)
Nick - Ray Winstone - after losing 5 stone

Sarah - Talia Shire - did she ever play another role other than Adrian?

Josh - Mr T - 20 years ago and without the mohawk and gold

Metal Mickey - Christopher Biggins

Kelly - Drew Barrymore - when she was in ET

ii)
Nick - Jason Statham

Sarah - Cameron Diaz - must dye hair black though

Josh - Samual L Jackson

Metal Mickey - The guy from Jurrasic Park who got killed trying to escape with a stolen DNA sample

Kelly - any snotty nosed kid'll do!

>>By Sheba   (Friday, 23 May 2003 11:45)

"My dad said am-i-binned would loop on his gag about Swifty's and he wasn't wrong."

Aaaah, so it was a "gag" meant only for am-i-binned, was it? And exactly how were you going to tell all the others here that it was only a joke... that you didn't really intend to mislead everyone...

Careful now, aka... way more telltale signs than you realize...

>>By am-i-binned   (Friday, 23 May 2003 11:57)

Holland, May 23

Re: I wouldn't expect AM to give his readers a full detailed description
Unless the photographs are manipulated ór the others standing next to Andy are giants – I’d say he’s as tall as AIB mentioned.

Sheba, you i list is brilliant (I looked at it after tulip time) but your ii list…. Cameron Diaz ??? Oh please, plenty of other possibilities to see her on screen and she’s beautiful and funny. Dye her hair and use brown contact lenses – it still wouldn’t make her a Sarah. What do you think of Ashley Judd? If it has to be a well-known actress…

Georgia, which Andy McNab books did you read?

Lynn

>>By Lynn   (Friday, 23 May 2003 13:20)

Mislead is your favorite quote am-i-binned. Aka who? The others know it was only a joke. They didn't stupidly scout out a silly article and wouldn't offer cloaks of protection for you on platform 4. My dad's right the enemy comes from within. Count the men around you.
