correct correct feck is a common usage Irish word, semi-vulgar can be heard on the radio and TV, but is sort of like f**k correct as at currrent exchange rates
yes £1000 is expensive for insurance in my view, but its a damn sight more in Ireland where I lived for a year with rates being similar to yours in the states, I bought a battered old runaround, a 1992 Mitsubishi Galant (best car I have ever had actually) for 1500 euros the insurance was over 3000 euros where's the sense in that??
In the UK the insurance criteria are the same as yours, where I live in CZ cars are insured on engine size alone going up in 1000cc increments with anything above 3lts being the most expensive, i.e if you own a 2.5 lt Porsche 944 the insurance is the same as a 2.2 lt Opel Frontera, currently my frontera costs £300 fully comprehensive in CZ money, also absolutely anyone can drive my car in CZ as the car is insured not the driver, in the UK for me and my girlie on the BMW motorbike the insurance is £355 in CZ its about £40
Yes the insurance business has you over a barrel here in the UK too, in 1992 i bought a car in germany whilst I was in the Army, the insurance was just under £600 for the whole of europe even the then former yougoslavia which was just starting its civil war.
When i bought the car back to the UK with the same insurer, the price was £2400 in the UK alone, because it was a brand new 'hot hatchback' one of a number of cars which were popular with thieves, however my car was garaged on a military base with armed guards on the gate...who on earth would steal it from there!! I had to sell it and buy a Porsche 924S which was the same insurance as my original £600 but an older car !!

L2R
In the UK we have third party insurance, the minimum.... you crash no other cars involved, car catches fire, or gets stolen...... no payout, you hit another car or other property your insurance pays for their repairs....not your own thats from your own pocket.
Thrid party fire and theft as above but you get a payout with theft and fire.
Fully comprehensive, payouts for everything.
as each successive year goes past you get a no-claims bonus (discount) on your insurance renewal.
In all the years that I have insured vehicles in the UK I have never had an insurance renewal less than I paid the year before!!

BIAM, <<<In all the years that I have insured vehicles in the UK I have never had an insurance renewal less than I paid the year before!!>>>
Neither have I. Like said previously....there is a bundle being made in this racquet. I've NEVER had a claim period. Collect money---pay out nothing.

Flagg, BIAM, others.........has the Yank gotten the best of you??
>>By lv2read (Friday, 15 Dec 2006 19:06)
No, although I didn't particularly like being called a slut, the Wank didn't get the best of me........... The discussion for me just died of death.............. (as well as rudely interrupted).
Scottish MSP's largely against Trident Renewal..... hopefully that will mean something, as the Nuclear base at Fas-Lane is actually IN Scotland & nowhere near the English border (& thus comes under Westminster laws.........)
So what does anyone think about Tony Blair being questioned about this cash-for-honours business ??? Perhaps he'll be like Chirac in the way that as soon as he gets thrown out of office - he'll be thrown in the slammer............
>>By Tchock (Friday, 15 Dec 2006 23:28)
What are you talking about? Who called you a slut?? I don't remember reading that. I would disagree with that slur...but anti-semitic remarks aimed at me didn't seem to ruffle your feathers. My thought is that we aren't always at our best....so we look the other way. How about all those things YOU called me? I hold no grudge. In fact your hostility rowards me was mild compared to Flaggs. Tchock, we just go on.
When you come clean about Lenin and stop trying to apologize for communism, people will listen with greater respect. Until then you represent ridiculous idealism. Communism is dead....probably permanently/
BTW...will you give me the name of a communist country that doesn't control the press, that has free elections, that is respected by the US and Britain....
Why are you blasting/bashing Tony Blair....he's well respected in the world. Can't you leave well enough alone? He is an excellent statesman!!
>>By lv2read (Saturday, 16 Dec 2006 05:38)
The insult was in one of the lost posts.
Well, lv2read - we all may throw insults at each other - but personally I would only keep it to relevent things - and NEVER something as personal as that. Besides - Just Jon has no REAL discussion - he's just here so he can garner a bit of attention.
I'm not a communist, I do not apologize for communism, I don't apologize for Russia, I do not apologize for any country in the world which is communist. "Come clean about Lenin"??? Lenin wasn't the nicest of leaders to put it mildly - but compared to his predecessors ??? You gotta remember - there was more to the USSR's government than just Lenin or the 5. It had supporters - and not just the deluded/intoctrinated public.
Name a communist country that doesn't control the press/free elections - none. I'm not in some dillusional state of mind where I think communism is all nice & rosy. The communism that we know ISN'T. It is just the same as the opposing extreme - only on the surface can you see any REAL difference. That's what I'm saying - it's HUMAN NATURE that was governing Russia & all the other communist states since. COMMUNISM was just an excuse - they would have used liberalism if would get them into power.
I don't represent ANY idealism - just realism. I don't want communism - I just want some REALISTIC political & economical solution to the world's problems. Communism nor socialism isn't going to get you anywhere - nor conservatism (republicans) or facism. It needs to be LIBERALISM.
Tony Blair's Labour Party received money from rich businessmen. 90% of said businessmen are now residing in the House of Lords. This is what you would call.......corruption. Leave well enough alone ??? Tell that to the Police !!!!! They're the ones knocking on his door for questioning !!!!!!
Excellent statesman? How come most people want him out -he's only in because there's no REAL alternative. A guy who'll snuff it before he ever gets into office and a boring man on the right. Now that "Call me Dave" Cameron is in - well, the thick idiots of this country will vote for him because all he does is smile sweetly & avoid the subject of REAL politics whilst chatting on about how great he is & how he's got a blog online & dropping names of various popstars to get the kids involved. Slimey bastard. Tony Blair is an excellent SALESman.... yes.... all politicians are.
>>By Tchock (Saturday, 16 Dec 2006 13:02)
England and the USA (my guess) will always be allies. Britain will not select a Prime Minister hostile to the US or US interests. If you are waiting for that to happen, I'm afraid that you'll have a long wait.
<<<<BTW...will you give me the name of a communist country that doesn't control the press, that has free elections, that is respected by the US and Britain....>>>>
I'm waiting.
<<<<Will you give me the name of a country with an economy as robust as ours that doesn't allow for private ownership of the means of production.>>>>
Hint. There ain't one.
>>By lv2read (Saturday, 16 Dec 2006 18:53)
Give it up, L2R. Tchock herself complained that it's "human nature" governing countries. She's waiting for some real statesmen from Alpha Centauri to show up and lead us. The problem with Tony Blair's administration is in the British law--anonymous loans to political interests are allowed. It's easier to imply Blair is sleazy than to change the law, because changing the law would involve growing up and doing the things that would lead others to listen to you. By the way, I never called anyone a slut. I said that based on a person's profile and what we've seen from that person, that person has probably slept with a lot of men. I say that only because it's the only way someone with nothing intelligent to say would come to expect anyone to listen to them. God knows I've listened to a few neo-commie loonies in exchange for sex and some sweet talk over soy milk. L2R is absolutely right about private ownership of the means of production. It is the strong who allow the weak to thrive in a capitalist society.

Flagg cannot post on here for now, so I am posting for him:
"Can you tell the nice folks at the Jack board that Flagg isn't allowed to post at the moment, but agrees with Tchock about British politics and laughed when he heard the police were going to interview Tony Blair."
Tchock says :
lv2read - I already said that I couldn't name a communist country that didn't control the media etc because there isn't one.
Just-a-prick-Jon - There's nothing on my profile that suggests anything other than what music/films I liked. I have nothing intelligent to say??? My my - what a hypocrite you are. You make no arguments here at all, JJ. Ever since you came to this board it's been about throwing insults - you're like a child. An attention seeker. The most intellectual thought you could ever muster probably already happened. Neo-commies ?? (Have I ever said or acted like I'm one??? Think not.... can you actually read, JJ?) I think the only thing you've ever exchanged for sex is a few hundred dollars.
I am now leaving this board. It is pointless. It is ludicrous & full of crackpot's who have no intention of listening; who write utter drivel & think they're right; who post comments purely for people to pay attention to them; who show no sign of intelligence; who obviously cannot see things from the other side; who do not listen, or cannot read; who insult & degrade others for no reason whatsoever; who argue & argue over a point no one actually mentioned; who discuss the same things over & over, not changing their stance; who disregard fact & statistics; who are deaf to all ideas save their own; who just cannot for whatever reason, understand a valid argument.
lv2read - maybe if you got your head out of the clouds, it might have been easier to discuss & debate.
Just Jon - you're just a prick; if you actually had a valid argument, I might have something more to say.
Goodbye.
>>By Tchock (Sunday, 17 Dec 2006 14:45)
Tchock Once again I could have written your response, and---no--that does not signify agreement in principle with what you are saying. And if goodbye is goodbye, that is your choice. If you reread pgs 15-30 and think objectively about the tenor of your responses, it clearly portens your departure from this site. But this is not what was hoped for.....from me.
Flagg can't post here (Do you mean Flork or do you mean jack?) Is he grounded by mg or his parents or both?
<<<lv2read - maybe if you got your head out of the clouds, it might have been easier to discuss & debate.>>>
Re-read ANY of your comments on Lenin and tell me whose head is in the clouds?
Like you said once...you are unwilling and/or unable to chat with someone over 35. Don't know about Deaf Ear, but Maniac, Sarcoidiot, Green..., and myself are all over 35. Whose problem is that? Do you recall what has been said before. To wit---isn't it amazing how intelligent we view those that are in concurrence with our opinions.
When the vitriol is turned on you, as the four of you have directed such at me often, it appears that you folks are thin skinned, i.e. can dish it out but are unable to take it. Perhaps that may be why the world power shift has been steady from Europe to the United States.
>>By lv2read (Sunday, 17 Dec 2006 19:08)
L2R, you are right. Why do you think I do this? It's obvious that certain people expect to insult us and be congratulated in return. Western Europe is weak--intellectually, morally, economically. They expect eight weeks of "holiday" yet more pay than we make here--I know this because one of my employees is from the U.K. Let them run away and cry. It just goes to show that we Americans can disagree but still accomplish. They can accomplish nothing. Besides, economic lessons from someone who has never had a job...I think I'll be okay without Tchock's input.
>>By Just Jon (Monday, 18 Dec 2006 21:30)
I'm glad you're feeling so macho JJ, on behalf of your country. As macho as you were feeling when you called someone you hardly know a slut, and when you boasted about sitting through neo-commie bullshit while waiting for a piece of ass. And now you have employees too. I'm sure L2R is very impressed.
So, what exactly are you Americans accomplishing here?
>>By Flagg (Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006 17:59)
>isn't it amazing how intelligent we view those that are in concurrence with our opinions.
You're right. We're all intelligent here. Intelligence is nothing to be proud of.
>>By Flagg (Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006 18:02)
Flagg Things are a little more even here---does that bother you? JJ works hard for his money, doesn't live off the backs of others, yet still has compassion for the truly needy.
Tchock and yourself have your careers in front of you and have not really bgegun an indoctrination into the vissitudes of life....you still have a safety net...family, relatives....and socialism at home. How much incentive that you have, and where it comes from, is a mystery to me.
Tchocks dallyance with Lenin is a youthful, idealistic 'student' type thing. Her adherence to Lenin is much the same as your devotion to martial arts. As you both get older more pressing responsibilities....like work and family...will tend to monopolize your time AND broaden you. Don't expect to receive any input OR help from Deaf Ear or BIAM on this.
Whatever happened to 'ambition' in the UK?
>>By lv2read (Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006 21:03)
Tchock's 'adherence' to Lenin is nothing like my devotion to the martial arts. She kept trying to tell you she doesn't idolise him, thinks he did things wrong and so on, but you chose not to listen.
I intend to make sure the martial arts take up *more* of my time as I get older.
JJ knows fuck-all about the truly needy. I think the same is true of all of us, but not all of us pretend otherwise.
>>By Flagg (Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006 21:19)
Flagg <<<<I intend to make sure the martial arts take up *more* of my time as I get older.>>>>
I hope that you are able to do so. Many of us find that our priorities change; yet you may be able to fit it all in.
<<<Tchock's 'adherence' to Lenin is nothing like my devotion to the martial arts. She kept trying to tell you she doesn't idolise him, thinks he did things wrong and so on, but you chose not to listen.>>>
Sorry Flagg....you might want to read ALL that she's spewed on the subject. You are only fooling yourself...once the words are said, they are said! Her temperament limits her ability to participate in this discussion.
. Good luck.

>I hope that you are able to do so. Many of us find that our priorities change; yet you may be able to fit it all in.
I have to. *That's* where my ambition is, by the way.

She's not alone.

Well, good for you. When you get married, you'll find that your family gets larger before it gets smaller. At that time (I found), children trump many of our priorities....and for good reason. Anyway, good luck.
>>By lv2read (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 04:07)
I don't plan to have kids. Thanks though.
>>By Flagg (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 11:12)
Flagg <<<I don't plan to have kids. Thanks though.>>>
At one time or another, we all say this. And when I was your age, I said it with conviction! And when a couple is planning a life together, children are a natural outcome. And remember, children are for the young. If you start your family in your 40s---you'll pay dearly later. But none of us know what the future holds.
>>By lv2read (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 15:57)
Obviously my attitude might change. But I hope it doesn't. Children may be a natural outcome, but not a compulsory one.
>>By Flagg (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 16:20)
Flagg
<<<Obviously my attitude might change. But I hope it doesn't. Children may be a natural outcome, but not a compulsory one.>>>
What is compulsory, however, is a commitment to your children as long as you breathe. Parenting ain't for everyone. When I reflect, I believe that my three sons have needed me MORE since their 21st birthday than BEFORE.
>>By lv2read (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 18:40)
>What is compulsory, however, is a commitment to your children as long as you breathe. Parenting ain't for everyone.
My thoughts exactly.
>>By Flagg (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2006 19:57)
Flagg and Tchock, the problem here is that you're, well...really, really young. Flagg is more concerned with the martial arts than a job (but is he fighting? I doubt it), and Tchock is...I'll let her own words speak for her. L2R and I have children, and we want our children to be secure. That means we have to make money. Actually, I for one would want money regardless. Eventually you get wise enough to realise the world doesn't owe you a damned thing just because you're smart and have some really good ideas about how the rest of us should conduct ourselves. Tchock's a lost cause--both the taxpayers and some really stupid man will be paying for her fantasy life one day. Flagg, though...if you're into martial arts, you must know about consequences. Someone hits you hard enough, you go to sleep. No theory or sense of how things SHOULD be will change that. I'm betting Flagg's gonna grow up quick after a couple of good ass-kickings, and I suggest he speed up the process by hanging outside a working-class pub at closing time and telling the 40-something gents how wrong they are and how he can teach them a thing or two about martial arts. Try the experiment, Flagg. You'll like it.
