Deaf Ear Try listening....perhap a little of thinking as well. Bus Service/LA Tghe City is approx 440 square miles.....with housing everywhere. To tak a bus across town may involve 2 transfers.....I'll make it simple FOR YOU.....let's say you travel 4 miles East on Bus 1 and then take another bus 4 miles South Bus 2 and then continue another 2 miles East Bus 3. Let's say that you have a 25 minute wait for bus #2 and a 20 minute wait for Bus #3 and that you have a 3/4 mile walk from there. (and if you have ONLY a 25 minute wait for a bus you would be lucky). What is not mentioned here is that some buses run hourly and some only have three trips East in the morning and 3 return trips West in the late afternoon. Deaf Ear....people will ride public transportation provided it takes NO more than 50% longer than by car. Maniac Couldn't you have extended your holiday a bit?? We were getting civil here prior to your return. You are not even close to the definition of racism. Racism is where you harm someone. Miscegnation is personal preference about whom you live with, sleep with, etc. How dare you criticize a person solely because he or she desires to live, or marry, or play with people of similar color, nationality, etc. We still have freedom of association, don't we?? It's culturally different here (London) regarding public transport; almost everyone uses it. I have a friend who is a senior partner at one of the big 4 City litigation law firms. Lives in 6 bed-room house in a nice part of town (worth about 3 million) 4 kids all the the top private schools, wife doesn't work (in sense of paid employment anyway), they have a house-keeper, a gardener, frequent foreign holidays etc etc. He catches a train to work. Now I think that is healthier socially. One more thing, transportation would have to be available for a quick trip to my front door.....ready to leave when I disembark. At 2 am I ain't waiting for NOBODY and I will not park ANY of my vehicles at a public train, tram or subway station. The Jones family lives in Riverside......65 miles from work.,,,so that they can purchase a house-----say for $350,000. Nothing to look at, but it is a home. And their commute is 75 minutes in the morninr (leaving at 5am for a 7:45 start time). In the afternoon, if they depart at 5:00 it is a 2 hour commute.....so they hang around until 6-6:30 and the drive home then is 1-1/2 hours. Public transportation....the closest fellow worker to them is 10-20 miles away. If a company van is utilized, and other workers are picked up, the morning commute (without traffic*) would be 2 hours, So, an 8 hr day is actually 12 to 16 hours long. And if you get ill and have to pick up a child at school, or you must stay late on the job....what happens then?? Evening rush hour traffic begins at 3pm and lasts (generally until 8 pm)....lessening gradually as time passes. In the morning, the rush hour is from approximatel 5 am until 9 am...the worst congestion being from 7-8 am. >>By lv2read L2R You are not even close to the definition of racism.
