Ok Ok,
-Are still at least 2 more books planned after DW? -AM said he’d stop if Nick is starting to hug trees – does he have any idea how dangerous is can be to hug trees, ask any green activist.. -Is his daughter still reference for Kelly? -Did he have that talk with her after seeing B20 (personal hehe) -Transworld is not cooperating concerning signed copies…why? -Are his ‘ born-again Christians’ based on Frank Collins? -What is happening with the movie Crisis Four -Who is gonna play Nick Stone (hahaha) -Is he working on other projects besides books/movies/company -Does he think Soldier 5 will ever be published -What was he doing in Iraq (ouch?) What was it like to be back? -What is he gonna do about book promotion? We’d like another online chat :o) I’m sure there will be more today ;o)

I have another question! Please, please, please ask him:
"Would you use Slim Fast to keep yourself in top shape?"
I would love to hear the answer to that one (if confused see Chris Ryan board!!).
>>By Bethan (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 12:19)
I was not gonna touch ' Slim Fast' Bethan.. that's your project :o)
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 12:22)
Got 3 more. Very busy at work.... (or it would be 13)
-while being an SAS member you don’t question authority (government), you follow orders. Is he more critical now? -What was the longest time ever spend in a ditch -What would be the most challenging person to AM when it comes to CPP
Continue to check brain. Shouldn't take that long though due to being a small brain ;o)

I suppose the rare and golden (platinum-coated even) oppurtunity to have AM himself actually answer a few questions posed by fans deserve profound thinking and contemplation in how to choose the best ones. I don't know if there's a time-limit on this however, so I'm just gonna spew out a few on the top of my head. As I haven't ready any of AM's fictions yet (shame on me, and for that fact alone I'm probably excluded already), I unfortunately only have questions relating to SAS ops and Regimental facts (yeah, that's boring ol' ortlieb for ya!)
Well, here it goes anyway (obviously feel free to correct grammar errors if any of these are to be included in the hailstorm of questions):
1. What's your viewpioint on the "retaliation-books" that has surfaced in the aftermath of B20 and TOTGA (The Real Bravo Two Zero and Eye of the Storm in particular) ? 2. Is there as much animosity between you and Chris Ryan as it has been portrayed by the media over the years?
Have to go now, more questions will follow.....
>>By ortlieb (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 14:17)
Wow, Tom!
Did you have any idea F Troop could make your job tomorrow so easy? Surely AM will be duly impressed with the depth and breadth of your questions now!!! Kind of shrewd of you, too, springing this with short notice -- makes it harder for us to do a proper recce! LOL!!!
I would like to ask something of you personally though -- most important of all -- will you share your article with us here or tell us how we can read it when it's published? F Troop is a micro-UN unto itself, with reps from (in random order) the UK, Holland, Sweden, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Norway, the US, and (sheesh, have I forgotten anyone? sorry!) there may be lurkers elsewhere (but they're not telling us!) so not all of us may have access to your printed article. :o(
And if you don't mind, may I revisit some of Lynn's original "welcoming" questions: How did you happen to find this messageboard? Shall we assume you've read all of AM's books, including your homework assignment Dark Winter? And would you care to tell us your favourite? (Inquiring minds want to know! vbg! vbw!)

squeezed 2 more out (work keeps interferring with pleasure)
What was most rewarding being an SAS soldier/What is most rewarding being a writer
What’s the absolute silliest thing you ever had to do being a SAS soldier
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 15:12)
Thinking of questions is hard work and the majority of these aren't sensible (amazing but true!) I so second AIB, please share the results with us.
1. How did you decide on "Dark Winter" (see no spoilers here!) as agent of choice (sorry had to be sad science girl again ha ha) 2. Will you ever do the 'life after B20 life story'?
Sensible questions over (come on guys, it is me)
3. Did you chose your pseudonym surname yourself? 4. Will you join us for our 100th page party? Come on be honest, do you peek now and again, and if you do, who is your favourite poster? 5. Can I be in your next book? As someone really evil and tough (since I'm really wimpey). 6. Can you suggest anymore special forces uses for Slim Fast?
>>By Bethan (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 15:18)
"squeezed 2 more out......"
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Lynn think before you type.
>>By Bethan (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 15:20)
Think before type?? Assuming I can think... what's the fun in that Bethan?? ;o)
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 16:40)
Third question to AM, then I'm done.
(I'm asking this because I served with a Norwegian cavalry reconnaissance-unit a couple of years ago):
3. Have you ever served with the Norwegian FSK? (if it's possible to answer such a question without compromising on-going ops/breach of security in general). From a "professionial" viewpoint, what do you think of their standards compared to other international special forces? I'm aware of the fact that it was the SAS who trained them when the unit was formed in 1982. (Note: the FSK themselves blew the whistle on their existence in the media a few years ago, so they're not an officially "hush-hush"-unit anymore).

OK too much information now :) In answer to your questions 'am-i-binned" I will, of course share our article, after we publish it in our magazine then it goes on to our website where you can read to your hearts content. I guess that the majority of you guys are not from the UK? And we only publish the mag in Britain at the moment however I may be able to send some copies as a way of thanks!
I found your board at one of the top Google Group searches for Andy McNab and unlike many message boards I have come across you lot actually discuss your topic and are very friendly! As for Andys book I've read every one bar 'Remote Control'. The first one I know! I'm saving it. My favorite's a toss up between Firewall and Crisis Four, if I really had to choose then C4 would be the one.
Now halfway through DW, already can't put it down, good sign thought there were just that little bit lacking in LD and LL. Still Enjoyable though. Anyway I better crack off and start preparing! Thanks for all your input I'm sure we will ask him some of this. Cheers

>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 11 Nov 2003 19:45)
What's the name of the magazine or did I miss that? See I knew F Troop would make us all famous, but for all the wrong reasons ha ha. Quick pole hands up all those in UK, oh sorry guys forgot....
Read upto ch. 29 last night, I've sneaked it into my lab too, ssshhh don't tell Ortlieb!
>>By Bethan (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 10:13)
oops Bethan, making yourself vulnerable for black mail ? (don't mind me, I'm just envious YOU get to sneak your book in hehe) Still stuck with the chocolate story myself.. sigh. But at least I am enjoying DW longer.. each page read the dark pit will be closer... Christ, how did I get this dark vision.. dark pit.. dark winter..winter.. Come on girl HAPPY THOUGHTS!!.. HAPPY THOUGHTS!!.. OH SEE THEM COMING NOW...YES...YES..YES...YEEEESS... [ censored ]
>>By Lynn (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 12:20)

>>By Lynn (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 12:21)
Hi guys, I've just finished my lunch now at work and have... lesse... damn, four more minutes before I leave. Hope I'll manage tonight to give a few questions before it's too late. :(
>>By Deusrexmachina (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 13:04)
I love lunchtimes, I'm hiding in my little office/clean room lab with Mr Nick Stone. And he's being well behaved and following all necessary health and safety precautions, no NBC but plenty of labcoats! Thankfully I'm not being as noisy as you Lynn, see that's how I get away with sneaking things in ha ha.
>>By Bethan (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 14:04)
After a few "comeback please" pleas how could I resist such Temptation...
RE DW: book put down at precisely 10.00 UK time.
Hmmm...Thinking...My oh my, what a lot of sand in Nick’s turnups, and who broke this particular sand-glass?
Weeping? No... Stunned, Yes...
>>By buddy (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 14:18)
Damn and blast it, I've ruined it for myself. 3/4 way through, drop book, pick it up, wrong page but read it anyway. Probably read the one line that has now ruined the rest of it for me. Gutted. I blame him as much as me.....
>>By Bethan (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 15:54)
Hello, all. I found your discussion while searching for reviews of Dark Winter. I have just finished it and am still reeling from the shocking end.
I've read a few pages of the discussion and am impressed with the upbeat and friendly tone of (most of) the discussion.
I've been an AM fan since Remote Control and have read everything he's written. Remote Control had been my favorite, but Dark Winter has just taken it's spot.
AM gets hardly any press here in the US. I'm interested to know what kind of exposure he gets in the UK.
>>By Astroboy (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 16:58)
Welcome, Astroboy! Ooooh, another US reader -- we seem to be so few and far between. You're completely right, too, about AM getting hardly any (spelled "no") press here -- thanks no doubt to the thoroughly unremarkable marketing efforts of his US publishers! (vb sarcastic g!) Curious: Knowing how AM is not promoted too much over here, how did you first come to read his books? And how long have you been reading him?
>>By am-i-binned (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 17:58)
Hi, All.... Please, please, please!!!!! I have a huge favour to ask! Could we please not post anything at all about the ending of DW yet! I know nothing really specific has been said so far, but still anything at all at this point definitely constitutes a SPOILER for some of us! Fanx muchly! :o)
>>By am-i-binned (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 18:10)
Hi Astroboy, welcome... Remote Control is my favourite too.. Am curious what I will say when I've finished DW..
Indeed AIB.... though some things just slip... no info please about endings, I don't know if I am ABLE to read the end now.. shocking.. oh my.. :-( Can you also 'reel' beforehand??
>>By Lynn (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 18:20)
I apologize if I gave away anything. I was trying to stay away from specifics. No further word on DW content from me!
Thanks for the welcome. I first ran across Andy's work through an Amazon.com recommendation. I have been a Tom Clancy fan for years, although a rapidly fading one. Based on that, I guess, the fine folks at Amazon thought I might like Remote Control.
I remember my reaction to some of the sequences in Remote Control (what's the rule on discussing specifics from previous books?). "This is a bit different, isn't it?" I thought to myself. Holy smokes! I was instantly hooked. I distinctly remember thinking, "Are you certain Nick Stone is the GOOD guy?"
I think the thing for me is that Nick (and AM himself, in his non-fiction) comes across as such a regular guy. He's spouting off all kinds of pop-culture references, he goes shopping, he eats at McDonalds - he lives in the real world. And yet, he's capable of acts and actions that "normal" folks can't even imagine on their own.
Sorry if that was a bit gushy. As you can tell, I'm a fan. I'm looking forward to conversing with you all and contributing to the board.
BTW - Tom's interview of AM - did we ever figure out what magazine that was going to appear in? And when?
>>By Astroboy (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 18:42)
Darn it AIB. I've been waiting in the wings for weeks to discuss Dark Winter.
Does your Spoiler Warning message mean go away and come back Xmas 2004? I suppose that makes good commom sense advice. By end of 2004 any one who hasn'r read it by then it'll be tough s**t.
Oh well, will do.
Passing Comment. DW is not a favourite in my house.
>>By Saxon (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 19:00)
Hi again, Astroboy...
No probs and I apologize -- it's just that I have a major case of the "Sixth Sense" jumpies -- all this talk about DW's ending! We don't usually go into overt specifics of the details of individual stories (not yet anyway), but we have posted lots of snippets and compilations of favourite "one-liners". And we can always post "Spoiler Warnings" if appropriate. I would think it may be fairly safe discussing his older books, but some are still waiting for translated versions of Liberation Day let alone Dark Winter, so those two are probably the most sensitive in terms of spoilers. And as to gushy, oooooh, you're in the right place here -- definitely one of the prerequisites for F Troop!
Like you, I am a Clancy fan, but in this last year plus, Clancy and all my other favourite authors of that general genre have taken a way-way-way-back seat to AM. Just wondering: Have you read any other SAS-related books, like maybe any of Chris Ryan's?
As to Tom Pun's magazine, no, he hasn't given us that int yet... but I'm hoping he reports in with a sitrep anytime now (no lost comm's excuses will be accepted, Tom!).... :o)
>>By am-i-binned (Wednesday, 12 Nov 2003 19:11)
Ooops! Sorry, Saxon! I cross posted with you. I think my comment to Astroboy kind of answers you, too. Just a little more patience, please, or we could always discuss in flork if you're absolutely bursting at the seams! :o)
