Just thought I'd let you know that if anyone's looking for a copy of Soldier Five, then Play have it for sale at £5.99 including PAP. Deniable_kay: Deep Black isn't out on paperback yet. I was waiting for a paperback copy myself but my Brother bought me the hard back version for xmas so I'm happy now anyway!

Ah great to see new posters here, welcome Planet and welcome Hubba. And good to see you back Deniable Key!
I also have a little message for an 'old' Trooper our Aussie mate Paul R, out of sight not out of heart ;-) Happy New Year to you too - let us know how you are sometime!
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 01:29)
Great screenname, Hubba Hubba...I laughed out loud when I first read that in "Liberation Day" (it WAS Liberation Day, wasn't it?).
>>By Just Jon (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 02:05)
welcome new f-troopers, and i hope you enjoy the mix of good honest opinion, remember we are all f-troopers and that means no arguements, debate yes arguement no...And remember to set those videos for ultimate force on sat....

Oops! didn't realise that Mr. Poolesprocket was a personal friend of the Phillips family, but then again, I said nothing derogatory about Vince; and ergo, he must also know McNab personally too in order to make his quantitative judgement. We are indeed in exalted company! We should be flattered also because the members of the 'other place' are the greatest fans of this site, every other posting is about F Troop, so sweet!
In the book 'The Big Breach' by Richard Tomlinson, he mentions attending a lecture given by McNab about his B20 experience at Stirling Lines (he is badged himself), another attendee turned to Tomlinson after the lecture and said "he should write a book about that". Evidently others with seniority agreed; he was encouraged to write the story as we know from other sources.
And welcome to the FNGs (read 'Nam books if you don't understand)

If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." -- Noam Chomsky Something for this board to think about and those that pull the strings. Well done mg you have played the ball right where it is wanted: worshippers only/invite only it’s the same thing. Whoever heard of a meet new people website that needs an invite – a large piece of irony anyone? You may not agree with what posters like Poole say but at least let them say it, they have as much right as you do to be here; except now they don’t. When I arrived here 18 months ago this place was interesting, the discussion varied and the information bandied about, bullsh*t and intriguing at the same time. The true colours have been revealed and the recent silences on this board says more than a thousand words. Beth-fan.
>>By B.A.B.E.S (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 12:10)
Axes can be ground at chatzy, Beth.
The recent lag in AM board activity had far more to do with seasonal scurrying than any animosities, real or imagined.
I agree wholeheartedly (vehemently even) where the invites are concerned, as MG will tell you, if you would take the time to ask him. But, bottom line, this is HIS world, HIS creation, and HIS responsibility. And remember please, there are other aspects of this website, far more important than just the few boards we frequent. We may be the largest board but we are not the center of the Gnod universe. There are legalities you and I don't have to consider, but MG does. And I'm grateful that he takes his responsibilities seriously cuz it means we DO have a civilized place here.
So this "invite" program is a breather period while he reconfigures the structure. I'm not crazy about it but he assures that this, too, is only temporary, as he seeks to find a better way to structure the comms and the boards. Growing pains suck, but no pain, no gain...

< You may not agree with what posters like Poole say but at least let them say it, they have as much right as you do to be here
Uhm... he did say it - no one stopped him Are you saying we can't answer him? Freedom of speech but no freedom of reply?
< worshippers only/invite only Maybe good to realise that this invite thing is for Flork, containing Gnovies, Gnusic, Gnooks - not the Andy McNab board!
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 12:34)
OH! cross posted AIB hahaha, like minds?
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 12:35)
Good job new posters are all Mcnab-lovers otherwise they'd have been nuked by F-Trooper's Sgt. Major.
>>By spiketheprovo (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 13:30)
So how much did you pay Sgt Major to be able to stay Spike?? Or maybe your theory is lacking somewhat ;-)
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 14:14)
Where did I say you couldn’t reply to negative criticism? Nowhere, I think that should be encouraged, your replies to me are perfectly valid. That’s my point, you can reply. You can post. Post on gnooks without Flork? We both know you have to log into Flork to post so if Flork is invite only that means new posters can’t…… Temporary? We’ll see. I have no axes to grind off-board because, like in the past, what is said there won’t be what is posted here and to be honest I can’t face landing in the middle of a flirting session to make my point. I’ve said my piece now agree or disagree don’t care really, it’s only my opinion.
>>By B.A.B.E.S (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 14:28)
I do agree B., new posters should be able to come here - I hope they will contact any of us for an invite as long that is the way to go. But you know as well as I do that the 'negativists' who follow this board will be first to shout that only worshippers will be 'allowed' to join and frankly I'm getting really tired of that. It beats me why people who feel negative about McNab want to spend any time on him (on this board or where ever), I've never understood that and I never will. To set things straight? Set things straight for all I care but then we reply and hell breaks lose! We can't do any good in the eyes of McNab haters - amongst whom F Troop is a curse word. Waste of energy, so is this post come to think of it.
This is not aimed at you B, just my opinion.
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 14:59)
<< what is said there won’t be what is posted here >>
That's the whole point: offboard is off board. Altho I do have to grin cuz if it's honesty you want, Chatzy affords far more than certain other forums. Forgive me if I'm wrong but do the words "secret ballot" and "overboard" ring any bells? Or should I be reading a different spin on that?
<< Temporary? We’ll see, >>
Yes, we will. And MG's assurance that "temporary" is exactly that -- temporary -- is enough for me. I have the luxury of sitting back while he does all the work; all I have to do is give him the time he requires. Can I, can you, can any of us, even begin to provide a website with anything similar to this discussion forum? So who exactly are we few posters (what 50 maybe if you push it?) to demand that he structure HIS world according to our selfish expectations? We're fortunate that he considers our requests at all, especially when you consider there are in excess of 15,000 other members who also think they know how Gnod should be run...
And, with this post, I'm once again violating the discussion guidelines with "meta-talk" (discussing *how* the board/flork operates)... Dang! yet another New Year's resolution blown away already! :o\
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 15:35)
Fair enough, I apologise for the cynicism then to the board and mg. The secret ballot? Or not so secret ha ha. See told you I don't like off board gossip and bitching.
>>By B.A.B.E.S (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 16:07)
Just ON board gossip and bitching????? hahaha, just teasing B. Please dont apologise or I'll have to do it too ;-)
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 16:21)
Hi Y'all,
It's good to be back. Welcome to all the FNG's.... glad you found your way here.
For their benefit as well as mine, could somebody re-post the instructions for including spoilers? I've got some thoughts on Deep Black but don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read it.
Thanks!

will everyone please shut up about what you can and can't do, get back to making flipant statements so i can have a rant every once in a while.
>>By fony (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 18:17)
Hi all,
As much as I remain not bothered about what is actually said on the board, I am somewhat intrigued as to why people who are "completey" negative about AM are interested themselves in a site that is primarily about discussing his past service, books and the admiration of his success. OK, I feel that it is good that the discussions deviate at times, talking about military aspects, of course, mutual interests to us all, as long as it reverts back to it's primary function. Everyone has their view, whether it is based on opinion or factual experience and as long as it is fair and with good intent, should be free to do just that.
Myself, just for the record, often disappear from the board now and again but it is due to service commitments and definitely not because what has been said on the board. It's still great R&R for me.....better than Eastenders !!
Apologies foney, dear boy. I shall shut up now. Long may you rant !!!
Regards.

Alright, fony, here's yer flippant remark: I scooped ya'll! I scooped ya'll! That's right, I have beaten F-Troop's master googlers to some McNab news, thanks to a secret (and much appreciated) source. Okay, here's the news: McNab's gonna be on BBC Radio 4 this upcoming Sunday, 9 January, at 11.15 A.M (I think that time's right). Link to full info at www.greymansland.com. Now, rant, fony, rant!
>>By Just Jon (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 21:28)
Hehehe....
Yes, Jon, the time's right cuz I checked it as soon as I saw you'd posted the notice on greymansland!
Not that I doubted you, of course!!!! LOL!
Of course, I do have to question your timings... a bit late getting here, aren't ya? ;o)
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 21:33)
Only beat me cause I was out to dinner Jon! Hahaha!! (that's my phoney rant)
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 22:35)
How does the ' Invitation Only ' system work? How do a wannabe mcnabber fan suck up to lynn if they cant join gnod. its same company in't it? Flork's anon manager is MG and he manages gnod. who is bulllshitting who?
Whoop whoop who shall I invite along. boatroopers? Better yet put out a call for the ski boys. They is aib's favourite fellas!
>>By poolesprocket (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 23:21)
Secret Ballot were majority vote in favour of aib made to walk plank and little Dutch tulip cheeks jumped overboard to save the wet ****
>>By poolesprocket (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 23:27)
thx reg, can we please find a different heading because you are boring the fuck out of me with this shit. and poolesprocket change the record.
>>By fony (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 23:48)
At the moment it is possible to post without being logged into Flork, so any newbies can post - but not join Flork :-)
>>By Lynn (Friday, 7 Jan 2005 00:07)
Does that really work??
>>By Lynn (Friday, 7 Jan 2005 00:08)
I have no idea, I keep being 'Lynn' - I cant change my name but I am not logged into Flork while posting, so I can only tell you my experiences, can't test it. Anyway - it has always been possible to READ this board and READ the profiles, on our profiles directions to invite (so feel free to suck up anyone who cares)
>>By Lynn (Friday, 7 Jan 2005 00:17)
Thanks for the reminder AIB.....
Just finished Deep Black over winter vacation and I don't think I'll be giving anything away by commenting only on the tone of the story, but just in case, I've hidden it with spoilers:
Was it just me or did the book's humor take a much more cynical slant this time around? Had to wonder if it was a deliberate mechanism to try to convey Nick Stone's current state of mind, or if we're seeing the result of an older McNab who's just finally sick and tired of all the insanity in the world. Did anybody else notice this, or is it just me becoming a more cynical reader?
