Re: Dark forces editing...
Only meant that TIL “customized" the chat so that F Troop's prevalence wasn't so obvious. The questions are there; only the names have been changed (as in eliminated) to protect the innocent (or guilty, depending on how you look at it!). Oooh, surely TIL realizes we're a force to be reckoned with... :o)

Re: Calling all nutters...
Uh-oh, careful what you wish for... ;o)

Re: Cover art...
Seemed strange to put a US locale on the UK publication. Who do they think they're selling to? But then Transworld doesn't seem too clued-in anyway... uhm... unless they think there are some Brits who like us, I mean, who like US... :o\

Dark Forces:

Maybe your piece (AIB pg 105) "control of his own fate/decisions" - NS of course, is closer to the mark than TIL having a hand in editing F-Troop entries. After all, NS's narrator, too, likes that self same sense of control...Can get a tad scary (eyes deadly) if his wishes are not met on favourable terms...

Calling all nutters: a little compromise, festive cheer, and nutcrackers to hand (enough here to be sure) will go down well with popped corks for Aussie style Christmas bush hats...Paul get out that there BBQ and we'll all pull on some beers while listening to that long awaited sequel to the Paul R Interview (inter) with AM....

Yeah, Borisette, the B.A.B.E.S is slacking off...Sharp shrift tomorrow, and Stan better be doing a good job on Lynn. All that intel to be had...You never know whose who in counter intelligence, and whether salt is salt on the chips or somethin' more deadly like Tulip dust...

Who likes the English in rest of world, hee hee, after the Rugby World Cup... YES! YES! YES!...

So sorry if I didn't reply earlier, but was pretty busy. :(

Er... thanksh. Actually I've lost a lot of it, and it takes me quite some time to write properly. It's mainly to be sure to not make arrows... er, errors!
Perhaps I didn't say this in pubic... O_O ... I mean, PUBLIC, before, but I'm Eurasian; I've learned italian from the age of eight onwards. :)

Weeeeeell... about those stories, it all depends on the point of view. As I've said, it's from a game, Operation Flashpoint, a sort of soldier-simulator that's different from ALL the previous FPS (First-Person-Shooter) games; just think that even the Marines use it for their trainings... incredible. I dunno if it might interest anyone, also because there are some sort of 'technical terms' in the game itself that might be awkward to most, but if you want to, I'll translate it; at least the first short one.

Thanks Lethe. :)

Y'know, I find it hard to keep up in this forum for one simple reason: I don't have Mr Andy's latest book, and I sure don't want to ruin my future happy-flappy readings. I already felt miserable when I've glanced at one's quote about Nick, reveiling more than it should; if I'm not mistaken it has been cancelled.

P.S.: my name's Rex, don't need to write Deusrexetc etc.! :D

Damn... my only question that has been aired was:

>A fan wants to know: Do you have American citizenship?

>Andy McNab: No, I don't. I was thinking about it four years ago, but I'm so lucky as I get the best of both worlds - and at the moment it's raining in New York so it's pretty miserable!

Well, that ventilator... "fan", was me!
(:-(

Hey, why not if we post our questions here? :)

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 17:10)

Hi, Rex...
Congrats on your question! Even more F Troopers' questions! We've asked MG about posting the transcript, but to do so will be in violation of the discussion guidelines because of copyright restrictions with TIL. If you (or anyone else) would like the full transcript (with the names still attached to the questions/comments), I can flork you a copy which I saved from Buddy...

>>By am-i-binned   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 17:21)

Oh yeah, flork me, FLORK ME!! PLEASE!! :D

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 17:26)

Buddy:
Can get a tad scary (eyes deadly) if his wishes are not met on favourable terms...
Oh, nothing more sexy than deadly eyes. Wished you hadn't said this.
Sigh.

GOOD Rex !!!! So we've got one more.. excellent!!
I think being half questions from F Troop, and we could easily have 'had' the other half too if the moderator had been cooperating (hehe) we have enough ground for a private F Troop chat !!!!

Huh... what... how.... What happened?? Just woke up and now I'm here ?????

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 18:06)

How come non of my questions on TIL about the movie making of AM's books haven't been answered, .... why is it such a secret or has everything been thrown in the bin?

Good one Rexyboy , one question more for F troop.

And Aloha, to the english rugby team! Great match.

>>By borisette   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 18:11)

Thanks honeybees! :D
But will the F-Troops win something, like a dinner with Mr Andy? *yum*

:))

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 18:59)

Nah Rex, he'll be too afraid to be on the menu...

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 23 Nov 2003 20:58)

Hihihihihihi!! That's a good one! Afraid to be too tasty? (not that I've intentions to taste him... but I'm sure you, you, you &... YOU have that in mind, eh?)

Us, us, us & .. US...... NEVER !

(perhaps just a little nibble)

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 00:04)

Borisette, re your ?: "How come non of my questions on TIL about the movie making of AM's books haven't been answered, .... why is it such a secret or has everything been thrown in the bin?"

Not binned perhaps, possibly shelved, but a third option could be that a Hollywood Studio (tricky/shady elements in the power seeking movie game) could see the benefits of casting a few million at AM for the Character and plots (NS).

Now, if you think in Hollywood devious terms, AM being a top promoted writer (UK) -shadowy appearance, in part accountable to his own efforts and maybe his lit agent - you can see the cunning stealth of Hollywood ensuring that the BBC/ITV networks don't get a hand in NS for TV movie (resell viewing rights sold Stateside). A British/Aus/NZ film company could have done a budget version of AM's work: budget version in comparison to Hwd. Personally, I think a budget UK/Aus/NZ movie would do a better job than Hollywood. I'm surprised, with all the money made from his books and his knowledge of working in/with Hollywood, that AM didn't take the bulls by the horns and financially backed/set up his own movie company over here...

Hell, he has enough script material for a shock movie incorporating this board alone. A real stalker thriller plot, only much better than "Misty"...

>>By buddy   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 11:36)

Words of song: "Play Misty fo me."... Freaky slasher film...

How about NS as bodyguard role, only it is he who becomes the victim of the one he's supposedly protecting, a person running a high-profile Internet message board....

>>By buddy   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 11:41)

That stupid moderator took my name off my second question and I was so proud of that one!

>>By Bethan   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 12:16)

Re Buddy,... didn't I read somewhere on the board or in some interview, (short memory) that some of his books were going to be filmed in the UK and that there was going to be a TV series, or did I get that all wrong again (as usual).
As for Hwd, isn't he good friends now with Bonnie Timmerman and all the other lot? Plus I think Hwd means more money to be earned then other film producing companies, or isn't it so. And if he's allready sold the rights to Miramax then there 's little he can do to change it.

>>By borisette   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 12:29)

Hi, Borisette....

Re: "didn't I read somewhere... that some of his books were going to be filmed in the UK and that there was going to be a TV series..."

Was this what you were remembering?
"Another author making a lucrative move into children's books is Andy McNab, the former SAS serviceman turned thriller writer. With scriptwriter Robert Rigby, he is to produce four action adventure books for teenagers, beginning with Young Blood, due out from Doubleday in spring 2005. McNab's rival, Chris Ryan, has already produced several titles in a teenage series called Alpha Force. Zenith Entertainment is planning to turn the McNab novels into a television series."

Sorry I'm bringing this back to a couple of pages ago, the copy and pasting thing. I thought I'd give an example (no spoilers of course!)

Remote Control

"I moved slowly to the other end of the room and locked the door to the garage. I didn't want to clear the bottom of the house only for the guys to come in behind me. "

Dark Winter

"I had moved slowly to the other end of the room and locked the door to the garage. I hadn't wanted to clear the bottom of the house only for the guys to come in behind me."

So fair play the boy did change "didn't" to "hadn't", I apologise cutting and pasting is a tad harsh, it's cutting, pasting and slightly changing. The rest of the descriptions are similar to above but I won't post those that have never read either would be a little annoyed. I will say that is probably the most blatant example and a couple of others aren't quite as bad but since some haven't read either I won't ruin it. You can get the couple of chapters of Remote Control that are relevant on

www.randomhouse.com/BB/promos/
remotecontrol/excerpt.html

Me being picky? Maybe, but you all know how I hate "faction" as bikergirl calls it and all the bleeding repeating. If Mr McNab doesn't mind me saying, "time out boy, ignore the writing for a while and come back fresh and actually wanting to produce two excellent books and not two okay for most of it books".

>>By Bethan   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 15:14)

Hi, Bethan...

I don't think it's a matter of being picky, it's being a discerning consumer. While you and I may differ on "fact-ion" because I enjoy looking for those factual elements, like you, I am disappointed with overt CPA (cut, paste, assemble). I don't see why rewriting the information/explanation to make it "fresh" would be that difficult. I truly think that most of us could accurately describe/recapture Nick's RC experience, detail for detail, without using the same sentences as originally appeared in RC. CPA is a very unsatisfying shortcut.

As to "time out", yes, I'd be willing to wait if it meant that AM really focused on story development (as in "undivided attention"). I am a bit concerned even as things stand now with that news blip about "action adventure books for teenagers" and a possible tv series. I suspect the weaknesses in LD were due to AM's other involvements taking away from time spent on LD -- attention spread too thin -- and parts of LD suffered for it (click, click). I must explain, though, that there were new aspects in LD that I especially liked; my theory being: AM had more time when he wrote those parts. One of the main reasons I like DW so much is because (except for the repeating of RC passages) AM made the story more complex, much more like RC and CF, making me think he dedicated more time and effort in writing DW. My concern now is that if AM’s obligated to writing too many stories within too tight a timeframe while involved with too many other things as well (be they Hollywood, news articles, security advising, or whatever), I can’t help thinking we may be getting the quantity but sacrificing the quality.

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 16:18)

What did you say AIB, (a few pages back) ?

"Me contradicting me? Why ask me? How would I know, but I'm guessing it's probably me contradicting good ol' Orwatt again"

Wow, now you're hanging out on the same washing line as folks who said (similarly to your last line) "I can’t help thinking we may be getting the quantity but sacrificing the quality."
Our comments, (the others, the other day) were promptly leapt on, sorted through, and tossed off by you as rubbish statements...

Grief, contradiction sort of comes natural though for you of late. Each book published is seemingly the best ever in your little red book, but on reflection you begin to see annoying/irritating elements that others mentioned yonks ago, hee hee, when you were adamantly defending book in hand...

Dare I say we finally agree on the quantity/quality issue...But hey, let's put it down to a slow count down to cerebral link up... ;-)

If you weren't a tad picky, Bethan, you could so easily choke on a bone beneath the garnish...

>>By buddy   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 18:04)

Well Buddy maybe we should give the orange hat to AM then if he's making all these mistakes, ...
and what did you mean with choking on a bone beneath the garnish,.... translation please!

Plus can he do the TV series when sold all rights to Miramax?

Who knows maybe orange is his colour.

>>By borisette   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 20:16)

That would all depend on how one quantifies mistake, and where mistake can be turned to advantage!

Camouflage hat more like - blending rather than too too noticeable - that way see without being seen, until he wants to be seen during covert introductions...

Ah, garnished bones: probably take a scientist to work that one out, or cheeky chef...

Re rights to Miramax : that's AIB territory - more up on all things AM beyond the board...

>>By buddy   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 20:50)

Didn't Tom Pun say it would take a week to work out that tape ???
I am really curious about those questions.. so Tom.. if you're still around somewhere... please let us know :o)

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 21:12)

There has been some offboarding about the chat questions, since the ‘official’ chat didn’t have all the names. Here’s our ‘official’ version:

Borisette got 3 questions answered (2 fatboycedric and 1 Titta)
AIB got 3 questions answered + the last thank you note
Beth 2 questions
Lynn 2 questions
Deusrexmachina 1 questions (‘a fan’)
And one other F Trooper (in disguise hehe) 1 question

Anyone who wants the chat WITH names can be Florked, just ask.
:o)

Now here’s something that will make some lurkers ROFL… the ones who think we’re girlie stupid for being here…

There’s an interview with McNab on a Dutch website, taken somewhat before November this year (since he’s talking about his new book being published in November), in Amsterdam.

The interviewer (blond and attractive lady – no wonder we weren’t invited) tells McNab that while doing research for the interview she run into a forum were readers from all countries talk to each other. There’s a link to Gnooks on the site – so I guess she’s talking about us. She says on the forum the readers talk about his books, comparing translations, and talk about him – for example who he would have killed or not and when….
Translation: Andy reacts very surprised: “Really?” he calls out …”That is a scare… have those folks nothing better to do?”

Well thank you very much Mr McNab. Maybe those folks should be doing better things than reading your books.

>>By Lynn   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 22:29)

I found it I found it too Lynn, it's terrible... how dare he, ...I'm very disappointed. And I bet she never interviewed him either, 'cause reading everything it seems as if she's done some research and copied some interviews from the past. Plus strangely it says he's only been divorced 2 ?????
And I bet she got a lot of info from this site too.
Anyway whoever wants to know more just ask Lynn and me, 'cause we're the only ones on the board who speak dutch.
Ooh yeah, he's off to LA now.

>>By borisette   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 23:31)

Ooooops. Was that interview posted April 1st, by any chance?

Hey, it's OK, there are tons of spoof sites around...

You should see what some of them say about the man...I dread to think what some might say about this particular board if they latch onto it...

Take the rough with the smooth...

If it's true that he said that and you feel real bad - slash his tyres, acid the bonnet, and tie a donkey tail on the rear-end...

He's a celeb and celebs can say what they like because they know you'll still buy their wares...

>>By buddy   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 23:32)

Well dump him, I'm off making a new board , actually 2. One for Stan the man and another one for Shrek.

>>By borisette   (Monday, 24 Nov 2003 23:35)

Oooh Lynn and he still got that stripped shirt on aswell, tzzzzz.
