How's that for a 'grey' answer.

Thank you, Swedish reader! Very interesting and particularly so in that he actually touches on several of the items we've been discussing here, including "count" and writing process....
How did you find this?

Holland, April 5th
The interview is great, I would like to go into more details starting with age. At the end, the interviewer asked him how he would continue his carrier since he is what 42,43? He says yes, just coming up 44. This was May 2002. Nicky Smith died in 1978 (fact), he claims to be 18 at the time, so he must have been born in 1959 or early 1960. In the worldbookday interview (March 2003) he says “I have just turned 43” That would be right if he was telling the truth in Immediate Action. So what does this mean? Well, it means good news for us girls, I can announce that from this day I’ve ‘officially’ just turned 24. Nice age.

Hmmm, seems I recall various occasions when AM has mentioned his not-so-stellar (think his word was "crap") math skills....
As to his date of birth, he was born in December 1959, after December 6, supposedly closer to the end of the month (B20). As to his coming up on 44 in 2002, and having just turned 43 in 2003, obviously, he was ahead of his time in 2002, but time caught up with him this year. Guess the true test will be if he's 42 in 2004, he'll have found the fountain of youth!
As an aside, Andy might have missed on his age in the interview, but the host interviewing him was so clueless it was almost comical. I was quite impressed at Andy's good-natured attitude/replies despite the interviewer's obvious lack of preparation/knowledge, not only about Andy, his books and B20 experience, but also even more general areas -- Lost Light? How many men in B20 12-15? Atari--are they Chinese? Japanese? Oh, Simon & Schuster! And all the while, Andy just chuckling away!
And one more Transworld complaint -- the book signing mentioned, the one that Andy himself said was open to the public! -- was one that Transworld told me had been "strictly private invitation only"! Oh, wait, silly me, I get it, she meant "strictly private invitation" to anyone listening to that radio broadcast! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hey guys! Just a quick one to say that the interviewer was so hopeless it WAS comical. I think Andy found it pretty funny himself. A couple of good chuckles there. And I liked the way the Sgt just let the interviewer talk right over the top of his answers! He handled it well. I wonder if the interviewer found a used cling-film parcel in his room after the interview?
take care, speak soon

Oh I do agree with you guys about the interviewer and the 'value' of the interview to 'just' listeners but to me Andy was great, that's what I meant. I liked the way he talked and the laughs and grins - sorry Paul, I guess you have to be a girl to listen to it that way. So another conclusion to be drawn from the interview: we would have done so much better... (that is if not fainted due to his appearance - meaning positively hahaha)

Re Lynn:
I noticed the same things as you (and rhe others) did. I guess he said so because he wants it more difficult to ID him.
About the interviewer: Don't you think he knew more? Some sort of "game" making the interview funny? (Sunday, 6 Apr 2003 14:44)

Swedish reader,
You are way, way too kind giving the interviewer the benefit of that much doubt! May I ask what you were searching on -- what qualifiers -- "andy mcnab"+________?
Yes, do have sortedsites.co.uk, good site. Also like lots of info on specialoperations.com/Foreign/United_Kingdom/SAS/Default.html. I have a huge laundry load of sites I sent one time to Lynn. If you'd like, I can email them to you as well...
Personally, folks, since we're talking about an interview from last year, I would have liked that cling-film suggestion served elsewhere (maybe even to replenish T's supply since they doled out so much when replying to my inquiries last year).
But it's a new year now, and I have had positive feedback! So here's hoping in a very, very, very positive way, that the old regime has changed and that his new publicity person is true to her word....

9.00 am this morning Radio 4 programme. I nearly missed it. At around 9.30 breezed in from garden to recognisable voice drifting through the house! His *nibs* put on a good show, and kept apace of the BBC presenter and other guest speakers. Definite air of confidence in the manner of a man aware that he's arrived!!!!
Think I'd best write to Sue Lawley, see if she'll book him for Desert Island Discs!!

I've just got around to listening to the interview Am-I-Binned and Paul classed as *Clueless*.
I'd give the interviewer a star of merit for his acting ability: so naive yet not, and one could sense an air of tease between the two men...At a guess I'd say things said off air by AM were out of bounds for listeners - the interviewer mentally deliberating on air whilst thinking up suitable steps forward *gun to head* - metaphorically speaking!!!
There was a definite element of *boy stuff* said off air, both men seemingly smirking and sniggering in mutual duplicity...Not only that, AM sounded happy, relaxed, and in any case he tends to take the Micky out of every one and every thing, including himself - he's a Londoner, and until Londoners step beyond the M25 (Magic Roundabout) they consider those who cross into London to be comical aliens!!! Having said that, in the era before the M25 the city limit was the North/South circular...
If he gets to read this, you can bet a grin will strafe his face...There are two types of Londoner: one will leave the city and will go native in the wild free world, the other, no matter where they go they can't wait to get back to the security of old Londinium...(walled city enclosure mentality)
You see, we who were born in the countryside, are to Londoners, dangerous people who hunt on horseback and kill for sport, (not all) but I'm sure you get my drift, in that our class conscious society is more noticeable outside the confines of concrete cities...

Hallo! Spending from time to time nights on the Web, searching for news about McNab, I've found your gang a few days ago. I award you the prize of the most interesting site! It seems that being on the track of AM is a full time job, and you're a great team... I have a question; do you know the DVD "The Ultimate Warrior"? Could someone tell me what it is exactly? Hope you'll answer...

I have read Bravo Two Zero as well as Immediate Action. McNab claims in Immediate Action that Provisional IRA member Antione MacGillia Bride "drowned" while eluding capture. However, in Fr Raymond Murray's book, "The SAS in Ireland", postmortem photos clearly show not only obvious abuse to the face of Bride, but at least SEVEN bullet entries to his BACK. Why wouldn't McNab tell the truth rather than attempting to cover this up?
As far as the episode in Gibralter in 1988, Maired Farrell was also gunned down while eluding capture. Not only was she unarmed and shot in the BACK, the SAS actually, by their own admission even re-loaded and contuned to fire on her as she lay on the street.
In Loughall, the SAS waited in ambush for an eight-man IRA unit to bomb the local RUC (police) station. Rather than stopping it and arresting the IRA unit (which they could have), they allowed the bombing to take place, then after a gun battle, executed the remaining IRA men after they had surrendered instead of arresting them. They also made no formal apology to the innocent by-stander they killed during the melee.
The SAS are not "warriors" at all; they are nothing more than a state-sanctioned murder-squad and Andy McNab is a complete liar.
>>By Fenian Bastard (Wednesday, 9 Apr 2003 09:23)
Hi there, Fenian Bastard,
I don't recall the IRA apologising for the deaths of innocent English victims of *pub bombings* etc., - total: thousands as opposed to double figure deaths of IRA personnel....
What had innocent British citizens done to deserve that?
I don't remember the IRA ever having provided protection for the Catholic population against Protestant violation in the seventies, in fact the Catholic populus called on the British Government to keep the peace, hence British troops on the streets. The IRA used and abused and intimidated any Catholics who didn't rally to the cause, and knee-capped those who were seen or thought to have callaborated with the RUC or British sources...
The IRA (so-called freedom fighters) used British troops for target practice, blew up border checkpoints, and bombed RUC stations. Effectively, violence begets more violence, and if anyone becomes a freedom fighter (terrorist) then they have committed themselves to violent acts, and in return they will be faced with retribution from opposing forces, whether it be in the form of troops or courts of law...
Don't get on your high horse and start accusing me of being a an ignorant BRIT, because in fact, I have Irish blood running through my veins, and I can understand where the IRA is coming from...
Revenge, though, is rarely sweet, and the IRA constitutes misfits, bully boys, and idealists....I don't agree with Protestant marches, (apprentice boys a joke in this day and age with no apprenticeships to trade, or anything else for that matter) But, when push comes to shove, both Catholics and Protestants need to accept that each is there to stay in Northern Ireland, and the best way to live together is to get on with life and stop worrying about what your neighbour is doing...
So what if Protestants (Orange Order) want to march about like idiots with banners? Why do Catholics feel the need to taunt them? Why not ignore them?
Why did you feel the need to single out this messageboard in order to attack Andy McNab? Whatever your reason, this is a messageboard for Andy McNab fans, which doesn't mean to say people who post here won't read what you've posted, but I can assure you few if any will respond...They are here in friendship, not war!!!!!!!!
If you have a personal grudge against Andy McNab post him a letter via his publishers...Meantime, your post was interesting, but I could name hundreds of incidents of counter intelligence ops and IRA atrocities that would make most people on this board cringe and puke!!!!!! War is a filthy business, and the IRA declared war on Britain by planting explosive devices in civilan areas...

Hi Alice, and welcome to the site...
I rather got side-tracked by IRA flack!
Re "Ultimate Warrior": view it as glorified training video, nothing new on SAS training methods, just another money-spinning sideline to AM coffers...You got to admire AM, he's good at self promotion - needs to be with the c**p publicity/promotion nerds he gets landed with...
Hee, hee, reconnected to satellite dish the other day, so CNN is coming through loud and clear, but that's all I can pick-up, or want to, in that I refuse to pay for reshowing of old shows, soaps, sport, and films!

Welcome, Alice! Another new friendly... so nice! And thanks for the ref to the CNN site -- what a nice intro gift! Different and opposing views/ideas are also welcome so long as they are presented in a civilized, respectful manner and are (most importantly!) factually accurate....
On behalf of "the team" -- fanx for the prize! Yep, must admit I do think we're gregariously gobby with lots of interesting ideas and viewpoints bouncing around, but then again, we don't have any real competition either! Just about as far as we can tell, we're the only active messageboard (no newsgroups exist) for Andy McNab -- really, really can't understand why that is! Mind if I ask how exactly you did find us (kind of a personal survey I keep taking asking new posters).
Buddy has answered your "Ultimate Warrior" question, I believe. AM is the "voice." I personally have not seen or heard since I am PAL-impaired here in the US, only read various descriptions of the video (Amazon.uk, eBay, etc.).
Again, so please to have you join us, Alice. If you've read through our earlier posting, you've noted we offboard occasionally to. If you'd like to do so, you can email me at email4gnod@aol.com....

Buddy, I’m impressed! You answered FB very charming and I totally agree with you last line: We are here in friendship, not war! For FB: you’re very welcome to be critical, absolutely no problem, but in a civil way, thank you. If you can’t handle ‘civil’ I agree with Paul, don’t waste time and space.
Something in the BBC interview relates to this I think.. (hope I remember correct) Andy talked about IRA not being called enemies but ‘players’ and he joined the army to avoid (more) trouble with the law and that it was a case of: being born in London you join the army, being born in Shantello you’d join the IRA. Would it work that way?? It brought up a lot of questions… Specially about ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. Like, why in London not join a gang? Or in Ireland join the police. Andy tried to avoid more law-trouble, so being in London joined the army. But isn’t joing the IRA asking for law-trouble? Andy also said that it’s a misconception that they’re all upright people in the army. What I’m trying to say, if Andy (or anyone in same situation) was born and raised in Shantello, would he have joined the IRA? They seem (!) to be so opposite to each other, but are they both perhaps really ‘grey areas’?? I think I’m having a bit of a personality crisis as to ‘can I still tell right from wrong’ if everything so exchangeable??
I just thought of something really beautiful, if the world would be like our board.. nice get-togethers and something disturbing wiped away with one click by MG. (Don’t draw any parallels with the real world – I was creating a more perfect one here). Must say these goat’s woollen socks are a bit itchy, don’t know if they suit me. (If I left you’all complete in the dark here – tough. I had fun, you deal with it haha)
To anyone who cares: almost finished Liberation Day so I’ll be open for discussion about that one soon. But maybe better offboard to avoid features being given away.
Welcome to Andy-wonderland Alice! And thanks for the compliment – totally agree with you, were very interesting people ;-) (just a joke to get out of the ‘dept’ of my posting)

Hi everybody, thanks for your answers!
Re Am-i-binned : how did I find you ? With Goggle and Lycos.fr, in an "AM-search", this board is on both.
Re Lynn : I'm posting this from Germany, but the accent you hear reading these lines is a french one. I know, it's not "fashion" these days... I won't talk about politics, it's not the topic of this discussion... anyway there are some details I'd like to make clear about French people : *We DO have a wash every day. *When it's hot, or when we've done sport, we take 2 showers on a same day. *Sometimes, we use soap.
By the way I particulary enjoyed a recent post by Buddy concerning towels and men. Towels/Men/Droplets of water ... It's the only policies I vote for.
