Just had a thought.......
It's apparent there are quite a few gentlemen on this board with mad skills in the ring..... f-trooper bri is a student of Mixed Martial Arts, docjay is an international thai fighter, fony is.... well... fony just likes to beat the sh*t out of people for no particular reason (c'mon, Nemo, you know it's true), and I can think of a few others onboard who are rumored to enjoy the odd rumble every now and again.
How about a little competition? I can just see it now: The Men of Gnooks go head to head to find out who is tough enough. All proceeds to benefit Andy McNab's favorite charity (which is... anybody? anybody?)
I'll provide the popcorn and drinks if somebody can donate a cage........
>>By Majorette (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 16:34)
And you'll be inviting McNab to enjoy the show? (in that case reality check: picture the guys playing cards and having a beer in the cage, while the girls are beating the sh*it out of each other for the seat next to McNab - so I suggest forget the popcorn, get some fake (sharp) nails instead)
Now all this just to feed those who think we're McNab possessed, don't want them to start wondering where we've been ;-)

Ninja is always ready with sharp and pointy objects. *ewg* Andy, pass me the popcorn !! Please ?
>>By Ninjawoman (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 16:59)
Dear Maj, Your an amazing person, but sadly the idea of getting in a ring with some gnookers and andy fans, no i'll pass.. Though i study thats all i do as its a hobby ... As much as i would like some knuckle dragging half wit to kick nine shades of kack out of me i'll pass on that becuase and this may come as abit of a suprise i would like to keep my looks and intelligence in one peice. I'm a geek and fluffy ball of fluff and want to stay that way so i'll say pass on the ultimate whatever contest... Though i have a friend who might like to enter his name is darth, and he is the lord of the sith and a right nasty pasty if you get him ticked offf. :0p
>>By f-trooper bri (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:00)
ok, I'll allow the substitution. "Darth, lord of the sith" will now fight in f-trooper bri's place.
I'll match him up against fony. If fony keeps his hands up and avoids getting caught in an arm-bar, he just may get that dvd he wanted....
-----
As for Andy being invited, sure. Why not? But he might get more amusement from the cat fights than the c*ck fights. As Event Organizer, I'll politely abstain from the fights altogether. (Wouldn't want to embarass you girls ;-)
>>By Majorette (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:19)
dear Maj The lord of the sith mr D vader has asked me to ask you will he be allowed to use the force and his lightsabre..?
>>By f-trooper bri (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:38)
Use of force is permitted (and in fact, encouraged), but all contenders must keep their sabres sheathed. Sheesh, Bri, what kind of show do you think I'm running here?
>>By Majorette (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:44)
well i'll put that to him but frankly he wont like it, i mean he loves getting his big red sword out and flashing it around... i'm telling you know maj i'm not looking forward to him giving me a lecture again... he can be so crabby...
>>By f-trooper bri (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:52)
between you and me i think he has PMS....Oh nuts think he heard me, coming mr vader..
>>By f-trooper bri (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:55)
ok i wont tell you where he put his lightsabre only to say my piles are cured.... ouch
>>By f-trooper bri (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 17:57)
Now this is what I like about you florkers - Lynn, Just Jon, Majorette, Ortlieb, fony etc - it does not matter if we disagree with a posted view, we all respect that people have views and give them that respect. Nice one all !
Right, fony, good chap. I'm off back to Iraq in March sometime. Funny if we got talking out there but simply did not realise who we were. A bit of a long shot but it sure would be a hoot. Look for the guy with the PG pyramid tea bags !
Majorette, you saucy minx, the gentlemen florkers having a wing-ding ! Well, I'll be called "The Waxer", or even "The Shaver". That will do me. I enjoy a good rumble now and again and recommend it to my colleages. Good for the morale you know ! However, I'm more noted for being a fast runner, probably why I've survived for so long !
Docjay, good post and I understand where you are coming from. Medics, like the RE or REME, are truely the unsung heroes of the armed forces in my books. So important, so vital yet so little acknowledged compared to infantry, for example. We would literally not survive without them. Period. Hat (beret) off to you for contemplating a medic role.
Has anyone got any further details regarding the C130 loss. A friend of mine (RAF ground regiment) informed me that the approx. nine RAF personnel were a mix of ground regiment Signals/Air Defence personnel in which their parent unit had supported SF operations in the past. One was from the Australian Air Force seconded. A lone Army member appears not to have been a direct member of SAS/SBS. Still just speculation and I guess we will all hear more in the near future.
Lynn, you mean you would rather sit next to AM than watch me give a detailed waxing to Just Jon or foney ! Hey AM, if you are reading. I could entice you into the "cage" and give you a waxing - you know, prove to the girls how painless it is ! Hey Lynn, front row, double-time !

Och aye all. Been a while, running after big pussy cats. Glad to see the con versation is still as lively as ever. Reg, your still alive ! I guess nutters (sorry, professional nutters) like you and your mates always manage to make it through to the next day. Any chance of another visit to your camp. Im sure a scotsman would make a wonderful target for your 338 Acc.Int. Especially if you wack the stock round my head ! I know you and your mates prefer CQB but I think you take it a bit too far !

.338 Accuracy Int.? Reg is apparantly having interesting hobbies while in the rear... ;-.)
>>By ortlieb (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 19:52)
I refuse to believe I`ve been called a 'knuckle dragging half wit' by a bloody welshman!! My knuckles DO NOT drag along the floor. If I wear shoes. With thick soles. So there.
>>By docjay (Tuesday, 1 Feb 2005 21:48)
Reg, if you promise me shavings like this I WILL be on front row... ;-)

Reg, about the C130, info gleaned so far indicates that it was a version modified (GC130A?) to launch and control UAVs which are heavily used out there. The soldier on board seems to be a member of the Royal Signals attached to SF regiments (621?).
I am sure all our thoughts are with their families.
>>By camban (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 11:25)
Jesus Camban you didn't pick that piece of info up from a news network. it's subject to MoD classification!! watch what you post or the site. you put gnooks off the air.
>>By poolesprocket (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 13:15)
Good grief, Poole-sweetie...
It's spelled: i-n-t-e-l-l-i-g-e-n-t, lower case "i", not Intelligence...
(Whispered: A wee bit insecure these days, eh?)
>>By am-i-binned (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 14:43)
Just for the record, that info up there was obtained from public sources. Though there are people known to me whom I could ask, I would not even consider such breaches of acquaintance, OK?
>>By camban (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 15:22)

LOL, Pooley! Show some mercy, please.
Set-up: << yeh landed a lot of military in court has that "i" >> Response: Well, then you have nothing to worry about...
Set-up: << it's subject to MoD classification >> Response: Well, that's one way to get a personal invite...
Set-up: << that way you in't talking boll**** >> Response: Well, no, actually he was talking C130's....
Set-up: << show us the url on news that c130 >> Response: Oooh, so "vetting" is okay now, is it?
>>By am-i-binned (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 16:45)
Anyway - technical info (for those interested) on C-130 available on
http://www.theaviationzone.com/factsheets /c130_variants.asp
Also: Friends, colleagues and relatives have been paying tribute to some of the 10 servicemen killed when an RAF Hercules transport plane crashed northwest of Baghdad on Sunday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4227881.stm
And more speculation: Was cargo to blame for explosion? Investigators at the scene of the crashed RAF Hercules yesterday were considering the possibility of an on-board explosion.
Although the Ministry of Defence has not revealed what the cargo was, military experts said it was possible that the Hercules was carrying anti-tank weapons used by the SAS, and that one may have exploded on board.

Thanks for the posts. Regards to the C130 incident, I was interested in more information on the subject as I had hoped someone on board had got contacts or service with the RAF. One of the killed servicemen was quite familiar to our Camp and was an RAF Signals Regiment member. Some friends of ours from the AAC knew him and another as well.
Sad loss indeed.

Oops !, nearly forgot !
Hello Nomad, I had to think who you were to start with. I'm glad you remembered our motto on your somewhat surprise visit to us.
"If in doubt, smack the .338 Accuracy International around your enemy's head !"
Did you have any luck with your quest and interview at our Camp for the elusive black cat ? I've been informed that it has been sighted on numerous occasions.
Sorry all for the slight off-topic post - I just had to ask Nomad !
Reg

Not to split hairs but..............
Camban, I don't see how the downed C130 could have been a series A (drone control variant). This article (which suggests it was a K-series) says that the RAF only uses J- and K-series C-130s:
"The Royal Air Force flies some 60 of the American-built Hercules planes, which are mainly used to carry troops and cargo. About half the fleet are C-130Ks, which were built in the 1960s, while the remainder are C-130Js, which were made in the late 1990s."
Source: Associated Press (dated February 2, 2005) Downed British plane had anti-missile protection, official says by Michael McDonough
Anybody who would like to see the article can flork me for it.... it's not available online.
>>By Majorette (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 20:45)
Not wanting to put a downer on things but...who cares what plane it was, whether they`re SF, RAF or bloody civvies for that matter. They`re dead guys.
And it`s not in a book.
>>By docjay (Wednesday, 2 Feb 2005 22:55)
Reg, particularly sorry if they were known in your camp. It always kicks morale in the bollocks, particularly for the younger lads. Stay safe.
