Yo! Hang on a mo there, Mickalos....

Now I just know you're not besmirching the awesome way Hollywood new-and-improves everything, are ya?!? No, oh no, surely not!

But just in case you were, let me tell you this, fella -- yeah, I agree. ;o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Friday, 8 Oct 2004 00:38)

i was away on holiday, came back and it was gone and no-one knows what has happened to it :o/ hmmmmm.oh well i'll have to go and get another.
im trying to read this post from page one, theres a few lol
is there any other books you'd recommend?
iv read a few chris ryan(3 so far, greed(quite good), zero option and land of fire)so far and on mike curtis ( i didnt like)
what is f-troop?do i get a pension fund from it? :op
finished dark winter last night, got it on sunday night, shame bout kelly and suzy :o/ they were kinda funny
i read all the books in the wrong order :-
1.immediate action
2.crisis four
3.firewall
4.last light
5.remote control
6.liberation day
7.dark winter
so as you can imagine, i was a little confused by some of the characters and references that appear, like, i was kept wondering where kelly came from till i read remote control.
is there going to be a film? if so when and called what?
have fun
kay

I did read somewhere that all the characters would be played by americans and I just can't imagine Nick Stone saying ass instead of arse. It just doesn't seem right

If Crisis Four is to have a smidgen of credibility, it should be shot in Europe.
Now...hehe... It'd be a pain in the *arse* to build a Washington set in Europe, I agree.
But it's just that every movie shot in Europa adds the grittiness and authenticity that megaton-aeroplane-fuel-explosions Hollywood bullshit movies cannot deliver.
One of very few exceptions: Heat (where, coincidentally, Andy McNab served as a technical advisor/instructor).

"You f**king Amerikáns!!" (said with a French accent). Hehehe.... :-D

>>By ortlieb   (Saturday, 9 Oct 2004 00:23)

Dear ortlieb,
Andy was a technical advisor but the overall technical advisor was mick gould, who has worked on a few michael mann films the latest is collatoral. where he taught tom cruise and if you have seen the film well its right up there with Heat. Mick also did Ronin with Robert de niro which is also a great movie...
Ok currently watching tactical to practical first time i have seen it very good series looking forward to seeing the one after it mail call..
Ok question for my long time mates of F-troop does anyone know of any good memoirs coming out...
Ok lad and lasses at ease have a great weekend ....Wooo Haaaaa

>>By brianauthor   (Saturday, 9 Oct 2004 01:55)

Ok F-troop has anyone tried the new pc game full spectrum warrior just curious..
there is a great game coming out later next year with joh macleese, think its called The Regiment...

>>By brianauthor   (Saturday, 9 Oct 2004 01:57)

LOL Deniable-Kay ....a pension fund??

I'm afraid all we have to offer free madness. Which you are allowed to keep after you retire.
(F Troop is explained again on page 192 -post by AIB, 14th from top)

The movie... aaah.. first news about that was in 2001, Miramax buying the rights to the Nick Stone character and planning to film Crisis Four. Of course when Osama Bin Laden became the most wanted person on earth things got sensitive. So basically we're waiting for news..since 2001

>>By Lynn   (Saturday, 9 Oct 2004 12:49)

Err... Dk?
That's only 7 -- what about B20 (the book)? Don't tell me that got nabbed too! :oO

LOL, Lynn!
Obviously I've been retired and collecting my pension benefits for years now! :oD

Hi, Brianwriter...
Right off, I think gamers here include Ortlieb, Nem/Manonfire, Trident, Deusrexmachina, and Camban posted the FSW link on pg 183: www.fullspectrumwarrior.com (awesome graphics!!) Ever since you mentioned FSW in your July post, my son has been playing the "hey, here's that game you were interested in" angle on me cuz I asked him about it. (Shhh, don't tell him -- it's on the Christmas list! His or mine, it's hard to tell...)

Arse or ass, Mickalos?
So what's a little "r" amongst fiends? errr...I mean.. amongst friends?
Actually, for a long while we were speculating pretty heavily as to who should play Nick, and we even got into other characters too. If we want to spark it up again, my nominations are still Viggo Mortensen (yes, yes, yes! I know his not a Brit, but he looks the most like AM, err... I mean, like NS!) and Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity in The Matrix) for Sarah (and yes! I know she's not a Brit either, but she is from *British* Columbia...) ;o)

Oooooooh-la-la, O...
I just love when you speak French! ;o)

>>By Xander Cage   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 14:56)

<<or they will ban chocolate>>

BITE THY TONGUE

>>By Majorette   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 15:24)

I read something in one of the papers the other day and it was famous funny quotes from celebrities... One was from the wonderful dawn French and if you non brits have never seen french and saunders or the vicar of dibley then shame on you.
Asa for the qoute Majorette
it went something like this..
There are two types of women in this world....Women who love chocolate, and complete bitches.

Some how i find that hard to believe..

>>By Xander Cage   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 15:31)

Dear F-troopers,
Its sunday afternoon, and like all sundays, boredom tends to kick in after a while, and you tend to ponder, ickle things.....
So i started thinking about something someone said on a earleir page about there being now a dating site....
This got me pondering, i mean when it says that you will share, would you really share your book collection....
just think two vast book collections but can you have too many books.... there again i need to have a lie down in a dark room with a wet kipper, because i'm starting to get really really bored hahahahaha

>>By Xander Cage   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 15:47)

Ickley speaking, (pondering Sunday Morn.) Not yet bored yet.

My book collection goes no where! Only expanding

>>By DTO   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 16:28)

Dear DTO, what wont share your book collection..
to aib, so full spectrum warrior, well there are a couple of really good games out there and coming soon like shadow ops, counter strike source which is due sometime soon and the regiment where you get to be in a sas team ...
Ok off to make lunch ta-ta for now

>>By Xander Cage   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 16:40)

I've often thought a book exchange would be a fine idea amongst fellow Gnookers, something like a Netflix.com for SF reading material. Between all of us, I'm sure our distributed Special Forces library is the most extensive one around! All a person would have to do is enter a request and then pay for shipping. A fellow gnooker who happened to own the book could then send it off and expect its return when the reader had finished.

Of course, the downside is that this sort of thing could cut into the profit margins of our favorite authors.... :-(

Of course the upside is that this sort of thing could increase readership of our favorite authors.... :-)

>>By Majorette   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 23:18)

Not a bad idea Maj.

I need "I A" for next weeks read. Please anyone!!???

World wide shipping ARG!!! Just bought a book from AMAZON.UK, 50 smacks latter I'll get it in November.

>>By DTO   (Sunday, 10 Oct 2004 23:50)

Been hesitating to put this up, decided to go ahead with it since it's exactly that (hesitating to come foward) that keeps these problems underground.
So...on a much darker notice:

Two former Army cadets have complained of being sodomised at Waiouru, including one who says he was pack-raped six times in the 1960s.
(...)
Mr Fraser said from Perth yesterday that he had received complaints of brutality from about 300 former teenage trainees of the cadet school, which operated from 1948 to 1991, and was collating these for an inquiry promised this week by the minister.
(...)
"We are getting guys who went on to become war heroes - one has been mentioned in dispatches and there are former members of the SAS among the victims," he said.
"People say these guys are wimps, but they are not wimps, one served with the 22 SAS [British elite regiment]. They are telling me the SAS selection process was a cakewalk compared with their time in the cadets."

do you guys watch spooks on bbc? new series started tonight on bbc 1 at 9pm,
i started reading, chris ryan's "the one that got away", i thought the SAS were about looking after their own? his books seems to be pointing the finger at people.
also started reading "the real bravo two zero", andy it mentioned that andy mcnab is an alias, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind, is that right?
also, did andy mcnab work as a K?
i must say i agree, the film would need to be shot in europe, and no mega super star muscle bound and whatever for the role of nick.

>>By deniable-kay   (Monday, 11 Oct 2004 22:21)

I have a crazy suggestion...If there's a film to be made, how about shooting the scenes set in Europe, in Europe, and the scenes set in America, in America? Just a thought.

>>By Just Jon   (Monday, 11 Oct 2004 23:44)

Yeah, this was covered a lonnnnnng time ago, but I never got my vote in. My ballots are cast for Hugh Jackman as Nick and Elizabeth Hurley as Sarah.

Ok, ok, so Jackman's accent isn't EXACTLY British on account of he's Australian-born, but his parents are English and hey, nobody here in the States would notice anyway. ;-)

>>By Majorette   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 00:31)

I see maj bit of a fan of the wolverine one, well if you get a chance to ecer see it, there is a stage version of oklahoma the musical with hugh jackman singing yes singing and he is breathtaking... and the wonderful maureen lipman as the old lady its a fantastic musical..
There is talk that there is going to be a wolverine movie sometime soo, so more hugh jackman to lust over and he is supposedly in the running for james bond, which i think he would be amazing in, so there goes the he cant play british question.
Boy i'm such a film geek hahahahahaha

>>By Xander Cage   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 01:01)

there has been a lot of talk about micahel ashers book on the real bravo two zero, and how they got it wrong in the books, especially andy's... But thats an old debate, i read the book and found it a really good read, and i enjoyed michael ashers book on getting rommel and his tv series about TE lawrance...
The point of books is that for everyone their version of nick stone and the character around him are differnt from all others becuase unlike film in books you use your imagination to paint the picture....
Spooks is an excellent series in the US its called MI5, think its available on amazon.com
if you have seen it well thats a shame us brits still make the best tv sometimes.
Currently watching the tv series on the sas on UK history amazing stuff.
Oh and as for ultimate force or as the dvd launch should now be called ultimate farce since it was due out in aug then today, now feb... well one less veiwer folks and i think i'll cancell my order for the series 2.
ok f-troopers night and have a good one...

>>By Xander Cage   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 01:09)

One last thing, all f-troopers give a thought to Christopher Reeve who sadly passed away today, not only a superman, but a super human being who's courage
echo's the motto of The regiment ...Who dares wins... he was a great actor and a great american, and he will be missed. Love and respect

>>By Xander Cage   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 01:13)

<<I see maj bit of a fan of the wolverine one,>>

hmmm, sounds like YOU'RE a wolverine fan, too, Xander. Or should I say, X-Man?

Yeah, Hugh Jackman is my Denzel. He's got mad skills: singing, dancing, acting, gorgeous accent, and a very nice..... personality.

>>By Majorette   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 01:22)

Well can see you have a great foundness for Hugh, and ma i a x-man, no more batman... ok anyone seen my car keys alfred..

>>By Xander Cage   (Tuesday, 12 Oct 2004 01:29)

"and ma i a x-man"

LOL! Is that your Welsh creeping in there?
(Either that or your spell-checker has gone AWOL....)

Another movie thought: Of course Crisis Four should be filmed on location in the REAL locations. And since Washington DC features prominently, I will be first in line when the cattle call for extras appears in the Post.

*Fills up water bottle, dusts off old copy of "Respect for Acting," and begins warm-up exercises*
