You have me speculate too about the name Nick Stone AIB ??
What if I send you a bag of black licorice??? (if it ever gets through customs hehe)

Just checking out some links - came to the This Is London chat (transcript) from March '03 - guess....

SAS hero and Gulf War veteran Andy McNab talked live on This is London on Thursday - giving a fascinating insight into his own experiences behind enemy lines and sharing his expert knowledge on the War on Iraq. This is what Andy McNab said:

"Sorry. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Normal service will be resumed shortly"

Sigh.....

Eh, has anyone read any books by Johnny "two combs" Howard. I was buying Dark winter on amazon and noticed his name and recognised it from immediate action, mcnab's sas mate. So are his books worth buying?

>>By Mickalos   (Monday, 20 Sep 2004 04:00)

Mickalos, so far as I know, 'two combs' only wrote one book, Boat Troop, it is reviewed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AMFTroop, click on database. He also featured in the video:- SAS: The Soldiers Story, also reviewed there.

Hi, all, I need to bring up an important topic...Fakes.
I have personally lied about my occupation many times (usually over a drink), to make my income appear larger...
It stands to reason, then, that there are fakes here, lying about having decent jobs when they're really in the military.
So, I say, let's sniff out the fakes, and join together...Let no one claim to manage a McDonald's when in reality he's earning
far less running a SEAL platoon...I, for one, am tired of the wannabes!
PROVE yer an insurance agent,
Jon

Yes please I would like a hint about the 'meaning' of Nick Stone please AIB!

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 12:00)

How could I possibly resist your double-please?!?

Here you go, Ignaty... :o)

Quoting AM: "... All too often, British soldiers who died on active service ... would get a brief mention on the news -- ... and then go unremembered."

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 15:23)

Hmm...

My first guess: AM called the character Nick Stone because all the soldiers who have died on active service are now remembered just by tombstones that have their name 'nicked' into them???

If it's wrong please could I have another clue please AIB please? lol :P

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 15:58)

Ignaty: Northern Ireland

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:06)

ok fake names, flowing signature, im getting warmer, but im a bit stuck on Northern Ireland AIB

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:53)

Another hint, Ig:

What does AM (via Nick Stone) always explain about selecting psuedonyms?

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:54)

What about first names, Ig?

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:56)

going back to basics... always use the same first name?

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:56)

Bingo!

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:56)

And combining...
"British soldiers who died on active service ... Northern Ireland"

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:56)

A clue: 1978

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:57)

Attempting to weave together 'always use the same first name' and "British soldiers who died on active service ... Northern Ireland"... give me a bit more time (thanks for your patience lol)

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 16:58)

Okay, Ig, getting closer now...

How old was AM in Spring of 1978?

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:02)

ok he was 19, did he kill his first man in Crossmaglen? I dont have IA in front of me but it's a guess

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:06)

At 19, in 1979, AM did have his first contact and killed an PIRA member (June 9, 1979).

In March 1978, AM, at 18, had his first experience with the death of a fellow soldier...

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:10)

Are we trying to play name andy mcnab again? Great game. AIB your sounding like you know his real name.....

>>By Mickalos   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:13)

Christ im having a bit of trouble.

NS always uses the same first name in his fake names.
Aged 18 he had his first experience with a dead comrade.
Something in the middle which I'm not getting.
Therefore AM came up with the name Nick Stone.

I'm trying to think why him being 18 in 1978 has anything to do with it. Give me a min!

>>By Ignaty   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:14)

Mickalos, this is not AM's real name! I would not play that game, ever!

This name game is about the reason (I believe it is anyway) why AM chose the name Nick Stone for his character... :o)

Care to play?

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:15)

Yea go on. The bloke who got killed by an IRA booby trap while taking down a flag was Nick.

>>By Mickalos   (Tuesday, 21 Sep 2004 17:17)

Arghh. Thinking about the 'Stone' bit now
