Andy will be one of the speakers at the event “Speaking up for Heroes” on 16 July 2009 at the Royal Institution, London.
“For one unforgettable night, several of the finest speakers in the UK will gather at the Royal Institution, London, to present on the subject of courage, of achievement, of overcoming impossible odds – to celebrate heroism itself.
The cause for this evening could not be more relevant or noble; Help for Heroes is an organisation formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. They have raised millions of pounds over the last two years, and yet their work continues unabated. Speaking up for Heroes – the first event of its kind – will see great speakers celebrating and supporting our nation’s great heroes. Each speaker will talk of their own experiences, of great adventures, and give their own views on heroism, fortitude, courage and indefatigable will.
This is your chance to be part of this unique event, and to help raise over £100,000 for Help for Heroes.
All of the speakers and the Royal Institution are offering their services free of charge, so almost every penny raised will go directly to Help for Heroes.”

Should Andy McNab be knighted? I think so. The UK knights actors and musicians and rubbish like that; why not a man who risked all for his country and followed it up by becoming an accomplished writer who helped bring more worldwide respect and recognition to the S.A.S. and the UK forces in general? And that's not to mention the extensive charity work he does in support of UK troops, nor the time he spends visiting with soldiers and telling them to learn to read and wash up proper and shit like that. I would start a petition myself, but as an American I feel it's not really my place. Any British here who agree it's about time he gets some proper recognition from Queen and country?
>>By 1690 (Tuesday, 1 Sep 2009 01:40)
I honestly think Andy should become the Queen of England, never mind get recognition from her.

People, if you google "gnooks" you'll see that "Andy McNab Discussion" has disappeared from the list of page links displayed under the Gnooks.com heading. We can do better than this! For God's sake, let's talk about Andy McNab. He has a new book coming out, which is more than you can say for some of the dead authors who are apparently hotter at the moment. Andy McNab is alive--he should get some kind of credit for that alone. And keep in mind, no dead author is going to appreciate you starting a thread about him, whereas Andy is, I suspect, reading this post as I type. It may be possible that the lack of recent discussion here is due to a feeling of, "We've filled 295 pages discussing Andy McNab, while it apparently took only two pages for the worldwide community to fully comprehend and dispense with the works of Kurt Vonnegut. Maybe we should spend some time discussing other, perhaps (and only perhaps) more worthy authors." Well, that's fucking bollocks, isn't it? People have spent years discussing and analyzing the works of "more important" authors; 295 web pages devoted to Andy McNab is shit in comparison. I dare say more time has been wasted studying Ayn Rand than could be wasted studying thousands of Andy McNabs, and at least if you did accept Andy's philosophy you wouldn't end up nearly as much of a prick as you would if you believed Ayn Rand. Some may ask, "What can we say about Andy McNab that hasn't been said?" Well, for one thing, we haven't debated how he might (or--and here's the fun part--might not) separate his laundry before washing. Would his S.A.S. training lead him to go by colour, or material? Or would he throw it all in together, so that he'll have the wash done quicker in case he needs to fold his blouse in a hurry and respond to a tactical situation? Also, is the rumour that Andy supports Chelsea true? Say it ain't so!

Right, well, Gnooks seems done...Maybe lack of marketing, who knows? I love Marek and Flork and all that, but even on "real" authors there's little discussion. Maybe Marek's idea is too elegant for the new web....Not enough distraction? Can't post pics of ourselves with every comment? New Andy McNab forum coming soon to a website near you...What rules would ya'll want? None? The only rule I consider to be a must is, no revealing his name or picture. Other than that, I'm up for no holds barred. Who the hell am I talking to? There's no one here.

If there was one on grey mans land maybe that would get more intrest as its the best Mcnab site
>>By Psicosis (Tuesday, 29 Sep 2009 13:59)
Glad to see my bizarre posts had the desired effect, i.e., generating a response! ValleyBoy, there's actually a forum coming soon to an already-existing McNab site, and I would love for you to join us there. While we won't have the functionality of Ning, there should be more people and more newcomers due to page rank, so again I hope you'll stay tuned and be patient for just a couple of weeks. Psicosis...You may be on to something there, my friend. Your taste in websites is certainly impeccable. Any suggestions from ValleyBoy, Psicosis, or anyone else on how you would like to see such a forum handled? Allow anything or moderate it to an extent? What could be done to provide the best experience for you? Cheers.

You all have a place know to go and talk about books to chat have discussions and just talk as well as have a blog each add you pics and just go make loads of friends and support our troops.
http://ftroop.ning.com/
>>By ValleyBoy (Wednesday, 30 Sep 2009 01:55)
Hey, no offense ValleyBoy, but Ftroop's been on the net a long time, there's already a Yahoo group. And that group pretty much started everything related to Andy McNab on the web (I was not a part of that early group, so I'm not talking about myself here). I just think it might be best to choose another name if you want to start your own group. Others here can explain better than I the history behind it all.
>>By 1690 (Thursday, 1 Oct 2009 03:04)
Hi 1690 i was part of the early group you can ask Lyn or lisle or Reg or biker chic or ninja or any of my mates on here, if you go through the posts i have had more alais on here than anyone hahahahah, LOL should change my name again lol, and i was part and still am part of F-troop there arent that many of us originals from the good old days... If the boss lady says pull it I will, as im just a trooper in F troop. but thats her descion mate its there for all of you if you want to use it and as a member of f trrop and having alot of pride in our service men and women. Either way its up to the boss let her at least look at it first.... As for me well im briwriter briauthor bookworm geek and many other name si have used on here but the girls now me best for my cosmopolitains lol
>>By ValleyBoy (Thursday, 1 Oct 2009 05:41)
Ok as no one is interested anymore it seems in books and having chats about them and the fact that the site has been up a few days now and no one has wanted to join. I have taken it down and deleted the account due to lack of interest and im to busy with other projects, There was a time when this placed rocked with new stories every day and it went from just afew pages to the 295 but its very slow these days . Oh well I tried
>>By ValleyBoy (Friday, 2 Oct 2009 19:19)
Full marks for trying!
>>By Ninjawoman (Wednesday, 7 Oct 2009 10:13)
Full marks for trying? Yeah? YOU pay the fucking money it's cost to keep GML up and running; YOU do what Lynn has done and keep the news up to date--searching, posting pictures, and presenting it properly; YOU do what AIB did in making a McNab fan site happen. You seem to prefer a fucking Facebook group or whatever social-networking site appeals to you, which makes sense if you're twelve. OOH, yeah, you can even post up what song you're listening to, that would be fucking great, wouldn't it? Flork is mainly a bunch of pedos now, so where do you want the new McNab fans to go for information? Some site where a few of ya'll post profile pics and talk about what you had for lunch? You and fucking ValleyGirl will have a great time sending status updates to each other while normal folks look elsewhere for information. Ninjawoman, you could have posted anything you wanted, anytime, on GML. I honestly don't know what your fucking problem is. ValleyGirl is just being a cunt.
>>By 1690 (Thursday, 8 Oct 2009 02:34)
After thinking about things, I've decided to take GML offline. Done with it.
>>By 1690 (Thursday, 8 Oct 2009 17:02)
uhhuh? trying to give me a heart attack here??
>>By Lynn (Thursday, 8 Oct 2009 23:46)
Right, my heart is beating at ease now.
Basically what 1690 is saying is that GML is an awesome site, with a HUGE amount of work covered mainly by Jon. And there is no need for something else, like something Valley is suggesting. At least not for me and GML readers. And.....GML will even get better!!!
So thank you Jon and 1690 for caring!!
>>By Lynn (Friday, 9 Oct 2009 00:01)
I may have overreacted a bit to ValleyBoy's suggestion, and it's possible that calling him a cunt wasn't the best response. I still think it was an entirely appropriate response to one who suggests that joining his web group is somehow tantamount to supporting "our" (whose?) troops, but if my manner of speaking offended anyone, I certainly apologize to the degree I feel bad about it. My only problem with Ninjawoman is that I don't understand why, if she felt GML should offer more, she didn't just tell the friends she has at GML to consider some changes, rather than encouraging a random bloke on the internet to compete with the fan site. So. There ya go.
>>By 1690 (Monday, 12 Oct 2009 04:46)
The full marks for trying was in responds to the "Let's stir things up around here." I never said anywhere in any way shape or form GML should change. Problem over I hope.
>>By Ninjawoman (Monday, 12 Oct 2009 11:33)
Aw, I could never stay mad at you, Ninjawoman! Please do take my suggestion and let your GML friends know what you'd like to see in the new update to the site. This goes for anyone and everyone. GML has been and will continue to be the voice of Andy's biggest fans, and the only thing stopping your great ideas from appearing on the site is that you haven't shared them with us. You can suggest ideas here, or by emailing 1690@greymansland.com
>>By 1690 (Tuesday, 13 Oct 2009 18:08)
i'm glad GML isnt going it's a cracking site. And only 3 more weeks til Exit Wound.
>>By Psicosis (Wednesday, 14 Oct 2009 16:13)
Cheers, Psicosis, but the scary part is just what you said--Exit Wound is out in three weeks and new version of site not done yet! Hoping to launch a week or so before that at the latest, give Andy some props and all that, but it's a one-man project on the dev side and that makes it slow-going. We're really hoping we can influence in some small way the U.S. sales of his books, and maybe (yes, this is a big dream), spread the word enough that his latest will be released in the States just as in UK. U.S. is a huge market for action thrillers, and yet the shit read here mostly sucks. If more readers in the States give Andy's books a go, they'll definitely become fans.
>>By 1690 (Wednesday, 14 Oct 2009 19:30)
Christ, I just randomly clicked on some users here...This place is creepy. Kiddie-fiddlers, obvious fake-hot-chick users apparently looking to set up a scam, Germans in leather, people whose profile consists of a poem or song lyrics(98% of users), really fat people with tattoos... ValleyBoy had a good point, really...McNab fans definitely need a forum where they stand a chance of having a discussion with someone who isn't a dago child molester.
>>By 1690 (Wednesday, 14 Oct 2009 19:54)
Maybe it'll work the other way in America If the film is a big action film and released purely on that over there it might get people intrested in his books.
>>By Psicosis (Thursday, 15 Oct 2009 12:50)
I'm certainly hoping that will be the case, Psicosis. You can't be a McNab fan in Europe without some prick calling you a Walt or an anorak, especially if the "well hard" prick in question served in the catering corps. If you look at the history of this message board, you'll see that a seemingly-benign subject, i.e., being fans of an author, brings out a lot of emotion from people who feel some sort of connection to "the troops," usually from chicks who shagged a soldier at some point and now feel they have an insight into the military. Even with that, there's something peculiar to McNab that really brings the weirdos out, and I'm not sure what it is. All I know is, I'm really fucking sick of dealing with most McNab "fans" and honestly I wish I'd never made the damned fan site.
>>By 1690 (Saturday, 17 Oct 2009 21:11)
Andy just hand delivered my copy of Exit Wound yesterday. Thanks Brother.
>>By My Cheatin Heart (Friday, 6 Nov 2009 15:05)
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Andy McNab is back in the google links for gnooks! My Cheatin Heart, I don't know what's up with you but there's no animosity on my end. Actually I wish you'd review some books for us. If there's some issue I'm unaware of (and for God's sake I hope it's not political -- surely we can disagree on politics), let me know privately.
