Andy Mcnab
Forum
Hi everyone,
Finally with the help of a friend I found out how to post a message. I'm been enjoying reading every's comments.
Andy McNab's books have been an "escape" for me from the hum drum of daily life. I'm looking forward to reading "Deep Black." I didn't read the books in order, not realising that it's like a serialised television drama. I love "Aggressor" the best, disliked "Liberation Day" the most. That book caused my head to click too much.
By the way, in the book "Firewall", Val gave Nick 3M worth of real estate. What happened to those? Is this going to be resolved in the next book?
I hope I'm hadn't said off too much.

Hi all,
I have finished reading all of Andy Mc's novels from Remote Control to Crossfire. I am convinced that only two actors can play the parts well. They are Clive Owen and Jason Statham. Clive's move, "Shoot em Up" convinced me and Jason's "Transporter" series showed me he can be Nick Stone.
Jason and Nick are both 5'10. Clive is slightly taller. Both are Brits so that's fantastic.
Can't wait to the novels in film.
What say you?

Welcome Angelinsydney, excelent ideas in regard with the actors. Clive Owen .. hmm tall dark and handsome. If he would need some training for the Andy flic, he can pratise breaking and entering on my house any time he wants too. ;-) Then again, more people/actors have been granted that privelige so calling ahead might be usefull? (lwg) Take care

Hi guys, AMFT on Yahoo is fixed, thanking God nothing seems lost. I will add stuff as soon as I find some time.
Hello Angelinsidney, welcome :-)
Clive.. yummie - allthough perhaps a bit too old now and too famous to be a Nick Stone.
Jason seems to be Andy's choice, quoting from an interview last November "Getting Frank with Andy McNab" : Q: Who would you choose to play you in a film of your life? A: "Jason Statham. He is a good lad."
His name has been mentioned often so I take it a lot of people agree, but I have absolutely nothing with Jason, I probably fail to see 'it', whatever it is. First news about 'a movie' was in 2001 so we've been speculating for a 'few' years - I think it's time someone puts us out of our misery and make (or finish) the darn movie ;-)

Mmm, mixing up 'a film of your life' and 'Nick Stone' I notice. Sheesh, must be Freud kicking in. :-p
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 2 Aug 2008 14:35)
Speaking of Clive Owen.. ever seen this one? Love it :-)

New article in the Sun by Andy: "Why Our Boys must remain in Iraq" August 16
THE commander of British troops in Iraq claims the time is almost right to pull out of the war-torn country. But former SAS hero and Sun Security Advisor Andy McNab has seen the chaos and violence there first-hand and says the move is premature. Here, he explains why it is too early to move out:
ULTIMATELY this is a case of our troops being spread too thin by our Government.
The main reason they want us to pull out of Iraq is a desperate manpower shortage.
Quite simply, our combat troops are needed to fight the war in Afghanistan.
The tragedy of it all is that we are so close to having the job finished in Iraq.

Hello everyone. I really feel like getting back into reading Andy Mcnab again. I haven't read any of his books since Dark WInter. Are the rest good, better than the old ones?
>>By Ctina (Monday, 25 Aug 2008 21:29)
Well Ctina, big advice here! Ready? Go ahead, there all good fun! I mean this: if you want tot read fantastci good old fashion killer fun.........start reading Andy. It's simple, easy, and just plain old page turning run and gun, 'git" some fun!
Lynn there....well she gets all goosey reading the Nabster!
>>By My Cheatin Heart (Monday, 25 Aug 2008 23:10)
Hi Ctina, great to hear from you again! :-)
For something else, loooooooong time ago someone we knew by the name Buddy explained something to me when I mentioned Daniel Craig, the most recent James Bond. No one will understand what the h*ck I'm talking about but I just want to say that I guess she was right. Or I don't understand all the unwanted attention.
An article about Seven Troop by News of the World. Some good in there but I dislike the style of the article. But since I'm not your mother make up your own minds... http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/ [LOSE SPACE] news/article16986.ece
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 26 Aug 2008 18:40)
Its great to hear from you again too! Buddy is definatly a blast from the past name.
>>By Ctina (Wednesday, 27 Aug 2008 17:18)
have just started seven troop today , leave you know how I get on as im reading Apache by Ed macy at the same time.
>>By BookWormGeek (Saturday, 6 Sep 2008 15:15)
unbelievable!
i was browsing online and chanced back upon this site, a real blast from the past!
i'm a returning soul from the distant past before we reached page 10, now with a change of name due to loss of memory!
i dont think i will catch up with the written word from my date of departure but i see lynn is still a contributing member of 'f troop' - what happened to sweedishreader, paulr, am-i-binned, buddy (devonwren), hoarwithy, chamonix and all those other knowledgeables from 2003?
and the reason for my return? has anyone read 'seven troop' as yet and if so, is it a factual account as with his first two books, or another novel please?
>>By HeadHunter (Tuesday, 9 Sep 2008 19:20)
Hi Head, wonder what your original name was? I wonder if any of those blasts from the past still drop in quietly?
About half way through 'Seven Troop', it is certainly factual, outlining his experiences from entering the SAS. His writing though is quite melancholy and reflective, whilst being a fascinating look into the characters of his fellow travellers, perhaps not as one would expect them to be. Further report when I have finished it.
APB: since amftroop crashed I have got out of the habit of reviewing, has anyone noticed?
>>By camban (Wednesday, 10 Sep 2008 11:52)
AMFT is well and alive Cam! Will you do a 7T review for Greymans?? Pleeeease?!
>>By Lynn (Wednesday, 10 Sep 2008 19:08)
Well finally finished Seven Troop and frankly well the words disappoinment don't even cover it. This is a medicore book at best. it lacks any of the punch the first two memoirs had and frankly this to paraphrase might be one book to far.
I bought it the same day as Ed Macy's Apache and frankly that book knocks seven troop into the next field, in cricketing terms.
I think Andy should now stick to Nick Stone Books, though even they are starting to lack a certain something earlier works had. This is very painful for me to say but i would give seven troop a 4/10.....
For those who haven't read it yet, you may have a different point of view. But this has to be up there with Liberation Day Though won't be selling it on ebay just yet

Careful BWG Lynn's got the goosebumps for lil Andy
>>By My Cheatin Heart (Sunday, 21 Sep 2008 02:03)
A cohesive, contextual review of Seven Troop: Undeniably important, compulsive reading for the McNab fan, but I was left with mixed feelings. An enjoyable book in its own right but if you have read B20 and IA, plus those books by 'Nish' Bruce, 'The Bishop', Gaz Hunter, Cameron Spence, et al, there is little new here in terms of factual events, although we do learn much more about Andy's feelings and relationships with his comrades in arms. It has to be said that he is either still holding back on some ops, or, he didn't do many. The NI stuff is good though, if only a variation on the similar experiences of other writers; Duncan Falconer for example, or the few 14 Int/Det writers who have published their stories. So, not disappointing at all, but also not 'explosive' as the daft cover blurb would have us believe. Just hope there is more to come.
Sold on Amazon within an hour of listing.
>>By camban (Monday, 22 Sep 2008 11:38)
Thank you, oh Great Voice of Reason a.k.a. Camban. Somehow it makes more sense when you inform the world about a book. Makes you wonder doesn't it?
>>By Ninjawoman (Monday, 22 Sep 2008 12:01)
Well I wished I had an opinion but something went wrong with my order and I still don't have the book, but then I should be used to it by now. Somehow despite good intentions I end up reading the book last of all - sob sob.
Update:
Andy McNab in The Sun - The Tower & The Glory "As Sun unveils Millie awards for hero troops, ANDY McNAB tells how he saw 30 Brits defend vantage point for nine days against hordes of Taliban."

The Telegraph - SAS author Andy McNab warns of mental breakdown among troops "The SAS veteran Andy McNab has launched a scathing attack on the Government’s treatment of British troops after a poll found that two thirds of the public thought their care was “disgraceful”.
“What we have at the moment is a timebomb of post traumatic stress disorder that will go off in the next 10 to 15 years in people who have experienced the horrors of the current conflicts,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

Great one - about time it's made clear that PTSD is not caused by weakness but by extraordinary circumstances that people (not just soldiers) have to deal with.

Can’t be bad! Go to www.McNabHeroes.com”
