Ohman, Cam!
Yet another reason AM needs to use F Troop as his Advanced Readers! Check the UK edition (well, there is no US edition!) of Deep Black -- apostrophes absolutely abound! LOL!
And thanks for the explanation of the registration lettering... :o)

CRAP! Meant Dark Winter -- not Deep Black!!! Would someone please rid me of stupid typoman today? He's being a pain where I can't put a bandaid!
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 24 Feb 2005 15:53)
I only meant that the town of Kings Lynn omits the apostrophe in road signs and such, not that the English language had stopped the practice.
>>By camban (Thursday, 24 Feb 2005 15:55)
cam the deep web does exist take a few minutes on a search engine and you'll find it.
>>By fony (Thursday, 24 Feb 2005 15:58)

SAS murder charge feared
AN SAS trooper may be charged with the murder of an Iraqi civilian, it was revealed yesterday.
He would be the first member of the elite “Who Dares Wins” regiment to face a murder rap since it was formed during World War Two.

Murder charge feared, huh? I wonder what that means, exactly. It could mean, we fear that "one of the good guys" is indeed a murderer. It could mean, we fear that a Spec Ops guy isn't allowed to murder anyone he chooses. It could mean, we fear that it was not murder but rather a justifiable killing in a war zone, and that the SAS bloke has been unjustly accused. Please don't draw any inferences from the above, just examining a few of the many sides of such an issue, seeking various views.

Open message to Poolesprocket (wherever you may be)
News of your double exodus made me damn proud, man.
You see? I was right: You are bigger than this.
Godspeed.

Dear All, Well as most have read deep black and i may lose my stripes for this and get rtu'd, i thought i would give my opinion as most seem to be giving theirs. I found the first part of the book exciting when he was in bosnia, but after that, the words wallpaper, dry, and watching come to mind.... It became slow and lacked the punch of his others works such as crisis four, remote controol dark winter... It lacked pace an energy and action... But this is my review....Its up to everyone esle to have an opinion thats why we live in a democratic society. i give the book 4/10 with the words could do better...

SAS hero parachuted in for princes
Drug-busting officer who specialises in risk management to guard William and Harry A DASHING former SAS officer who waged a two-year war against one of the biggest drugs cartels in Colombia on behalf of the Prime Minister was appointed yesterday as the first official paid minder to Prince William and Prince Harry. Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, 44, one of the most highly rated officers in the SAS who had been “pencilled in” as a potential commanding officer of the elite regiment and future Director Special Forces, has become Private Secretary to the young princes.
(...)
Although it was not supposed to be a “combat” role, he and his 20 SAS soldiers would go with the Colombian anti-narcotics police on operations against the drugs barons to show them what action to take and how to carry out secret surveillance missions. (..) During the Gulf War in 1991, he operated as a special forces liaison officer with the US forces, and in 1994 he served in Bosnia on a four-month tour where the SAS was officially known as the Joint Communications Organisation as covert operations were frowned on by the United Nations, which was in charge of the peacekeeping force.

Now hear this.... ;o)
The British Library's Collection of Accents and Dialects -- 55 hours of audio -- www.collectbritain.co.uk/collections/dialects/
... a neat resource for us non-UKers when we read "a Geordie accent as thick as Tyne fog," or "a very slow Birmingham accent," or Swindon, Yorkshire, etc. :o)
(A minor complaint, tho: There are 681 accents currently in the collection, but no convenient way to quickly search/sort for a particular accent.)

"Clark told the court he had gone into the bar area to find Mr Tamburrando in a 'confrontation' with a man before trying to pull a woman off a sofa."
Well, I think all us ladies will feel much safer sitting on sofas now that we know you are around, docjay! ;-)

Gee, sometimes I get sick of working with pilots and wonder what it's like to work with actors........
"I sometimes still have to pinch myself when I work with the actors. Mind you, I've had a few strange experiences: Sean Penn reading poetry to me until two in the morning. Dennis Quaid at the bar of the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills talking non-stop about his split with Meg Ryan. Meeting LL Cool J over a pot of mint tea. (A great guy, but not the sort of beverage a dead-hard rapper should be drinking, if you ask me.) "
woah.... sounds pretty far out. I think I'll stick with my pilots. ;-)
Those who have an undying interest to read what else McNab has to say about Hollyweird can read the rest of the article at AMFT.

docjay, Sounds like justice was served. I bounced a long time ago and shudder at what kind of lawsuits you could run into now. The fact that you had training could really go against you in the states. I don't know if it is as much of a factor in the UK.
