Dear Mr Trembling Knees:
In reply to your recent enquiry on behalf of Mr Spiketheprovo, please allow me to respond as follows:
Now what do i get ? Uhm... this reply posting for starters.
What do I do ? Dunno... you haven't got a profile (unless you share Spike's ex-ness).
Where do I stand ? Errr... on the floor? (unless you have Spidey skills...)
What's the prize ? (hopefully a medal) I haven't eaten that far down into my CrackerJack box yet. Will advise shortly.
Or do I still have to pass selection ? No, you nugget. Get back on the helicopter and don't f**k up. Ooops! I mean... No, you nugget. Just keep reading AM and posting on this board. :o)
Grinningly yours,

Ort's definition of "wannabe" (pg. 193) should be required reading! As a puke civilian interested in military matters, I've been called a "wannabe"--the thing is, though, i'm also very interested in Elizabethan-era literature and even technolology--and i can assure you, i don't "wannabe" warped back to sixteenth-century England! So, Ort, thanks. Now, for a McNab question--in "Firewall," AM makes s field-expedient "Lock-Aid" gun with an electric toothbrush, and I'm wondering if that would really work. A lock-aid puts a LOT of torque on the raking tool--seems the toothbrush would either not have the motor for it, or the improvised rake would just break off. Have any of our more felonious FTtroopers tried to duplicate AM's project? Thanks as always.

Spiketheprovo--AM does a lot of seminars, as well as being an often-used source for various news agencies. Other than that, I don't know what he does besides writing...Maybe spends all the money he's making?
>>By Sick of Cute Screennames (Saturday, 7 Aug 2004 19:59)
Spikey, according to Internet: "McNab is also a director of a Hereford based security company that developed and runs a specialist training course for news crews, journalists and members of non-governmental organisations working in hostile environments (including war zones). The course is currently the only one of its kind in the world."
Geo, please say it was not final curtain, or at least you should bare in mind that ALL artist come back for standing ovations.. If so, thanx - your posts were a good read.
SoCS, duplicated AM's projects.. does reading his books twice count too? If not, no...not yet anyway. Great question though, really curious if anyone did ;o)
>>By Lynn (Saturday, 7 Aug 2004 21:41)
Not that anyone cares, but for future reference, I am the entity formerly known as Sick of Cute Screennames, so if SoCS appears again, it ain't me.

British special forces sent in to counter Olympics terror threat
Two six-man teams, one from each of the armed forces' elite counter-terrorist units, have been advising Greek army and navy officials on how to thwart attacks by al-Qaeda. (..)The SAS will help the Greeks secure the port of Piraeus The Special Boat Service and the Special Air Service are believed to be the only foreign special forces units brought in by the Greeks. (..) The SBS, regarded as the world's best marine counter-terrorism force, is officially in Greece in an "advisory" capacity only, but The Sunday Telegraph understands that it has taken all the equipment necessary, including weapons, to thwart a terrorist attack on Piraeus, Athens's main sea port. (..) Although the security of the British athletes will be handled by British Olympic officials and the Greek authorities, a team from the SAS counter-terrorism unit from Hereford has been helping the Hellenic army with counter-terrorist strategy. Several possible hostage-taking situations have been discussed with the Greek military. The SAS team has also been studying plans of the Olympic Village, trying to identify its security weaknesses.

From what I can remember from reading "First into Action " from Duncan Falconer, there is always one or more persons from the SBS on the QM2 (or was that QE 2 ??) Or maybe on both but anyway, I thought that the Greek police had such a crack counter terrorist team themselves ? Once I saw a documentary about people standing between targets whilst the colleagues were shooting with live ammo. Maybe this is a case of, the more eyes, ears and hands the merrier/safer ?

Lynn,
I am not retiring from these hallowed tomes.... I just felt that my last post was a bit of a lecture, and I don't like lecturing.... so I thought 'quick geo old son get off the podium now and do it gracefully'.......and in the words of Arnie Schwareneggar 'where is Sarah Connor?'.... er no that's not the right one..... er ...'I'll be back'

Re: Olympics Security It seems to me that, if terrorists wanted to stage a ground assault against armed troops, they'd don uniforms and announce their intentions like good boys and girls. Don't get me wrong--the Olympics are much safer due to operators on the ground--but if I were a terrorist, I'd simply strike at another target while the Olympics are taking place. With world-wide cable news available to everyone, it's not necessary to hit a hard target like the Olympics to get attention--so why do it? The media keeps talking about the Republican convention and the Olympics as if kidnapping an Albanian shot-putter or killing a delegate from Missouri would somehow be more attractive to terrorists than taking out half the population of Los Angeles--and I just don't see it. "Los Angeles falls victim to dirty bomb--but first, the results of today's Olympic Volleyball match." Doesn't make sense to me. After all, every single special forces soldier in the world could have been on the ground in NYC on 9/11, and the trade center would have come down nonetheless. My limited understanding of unconventional warfare is that you strike where you're NOT expected. I'm just saying that, unless Al-Quaeda operators are even dumber than they appear to be, the Olympics are probably safe.

Just out of curiosity for anyone who is interested in the SBS (judging by the discussions previous) :
Some fairly basic and of course, non-sensitive info on the SBS : - for the uninitiated :
HQ - Whale Island, Portsmouth
Training & main stationing depot - Poole, Dorset
SBS was designated Special Boat Squadron up until about 1987 when a reorganisational re-shuffle was implemented. Since this time it is now known as the Special Boat Service or more commonly the SB Service.
Apart from their own specific training relating to their theatre of deployment, a considerable part of their selection training takes place jointly with the SAS in Wales. Continuation training takes place at Credenhill.
Regarding counter-terrorist units, whereas the SAS has the CRW Wing with operational Red and Blue Teams, the SBS has M Squadron comprising of Purple Troop, Gold Troop and Black Troop.
Just some info in case anyone was interested.
Regards

Thanks, Psicosis.... Bummer to wait but it could be worse... you could have NTSC. :o(
Damn, Lynn! How come your search engine's got warp speed?!?
Yeah, Ninjawoman... The QE2 part sounds familiar to me, too, but I can't place it exactly. Lynn? ;o) He's baaaaaaaaaack..... Excellent news, Arn... ooops, I mean, Geo.
Uh-oh, SoCS... What have you been doing?!? Reading my mind again?
Thank you for sharing your wealth, Reginald! Always interested. All ways always.

Hello, My first post here. I've seen a few posts from people who have been to some of mcnab's book signings and I was wondering where i can get some information on the dates of any future book signings. Thank you
>>By Mickalos (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 01:51)
Book Signings!!
Where!
When!
Who's going?
>>By DTO (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 16:53)
Welcome, Mickalos...
You've obviously asked the million dollar question around here. Yes, AM does do some public signings (at least here in the US) but getting advance notice of the wheres and whens is virtually impossible -- seeing as Transworld and RandomHouse do not think it important to answer such inquiries OR on the very rare occasions when they have responded, they've lied thru their teeth!
Ooops! Is my pissed-off-at-AM's-publishers attitude showing?!? Well, I should certainly hope so!
>>By am-i-binned (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 18:10)
May I suggest AM to Flork his devoted fans when doing a signing in the neighbourhood ???
I know, I know... but weirdest things have happened.. like those Martian invasion, ET visiting and Bush jr. being elected President.
>>By Lynn (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 19:01)
OOOPS where did that last one come from. Meant eeeeeerrr.... to say the rise-fall-rise-fall of the Boobies from Pamela
>>By Lynn (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 19:03)
i thought they had risen again, maybe i need new glasses lyn...
>>By briwriter (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 19:29)
i cant get over it. i'm sorry but this is the last straw, i was waiting for the return of ultimate force on dvd, and now i read on this page not till october... Well stuff that, i'm going to start watching spooks instead. Typical itv, i know this is a andy mcnab site but i'm sorry i need a grumble, when i was lad we had great shows like the proffesionals and the sweeney we get on good ok semi good action series and they, keep changing their mind when to bring it out... And then they say they are bringing series 3 out with 2 does that make sense, oh stuff it i'm off to read bravo 2 zero again....
>>By briwriter (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 19:34)
Lynn--if you knew the general level of political education in the States, you wouldn't find Bush's getting elected weird at all. Re: book signings--as AM says he's wanted by terrorist organizations, I would be surprised if he announced his travels in advance. Of course, I'm not sure how BADLY wanted he is--I mean, Salman Rushdie never got slotted, did he?
>>By Sick of Cute Screennames (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 20:11)
well briwriter got mke thinking and although there are still reruns of the professionals we need to bring it back but better than the sky one remake ci5. so excuse the post on AM's page but i think we need a revolution
>>By Nemesis2842004 (Monday, 9 Aug 2004 20:31)
MMMMMM Georgie Bush jr. being elected President!!!!!
long live nepotism, backhanders, inside dealing and sending your countries youngsters off to war..works every time to mask the economical situation
ooooh I'm feeling a tad bitchy and cynical.... must withdraw my claws
>>By geo (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 00:42)
SOCSN or Mr Sick, how do you like to be called?
What terrorist organizations are after AM then? PIRA... INLA..... AL Quaeda, PLF, PLO. the Popular Peoples Front... or indeed the Tooting Popular Front?
I doubt if anybody really gives a toss about him at that level..... has he made major inputs into destroying or seriously harming these organisations... so he slotted a player in the province when he was agrunt ...is that a reson to hunt him out... what political gain would these organisations get... and as for Mr Rushdie, he visited the school where my old man worked.... dad said he was a morose boring git... and he cost the british tax payer a fortune on police protection... at least mr Mc nab has more wonga than you can shake a shitty stick at so he sorts his own anonymity and protection....for whatever reason he feels he requires it!!
>>By geo (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 00:57)
aib you keeping up, watch for geos claws though they seem to be fully out, in my opinion mr mcnab does his stuff for his own gain why spoil a good thing. mysterious and spec ops, that is going to sell so keep trying his publisher or try blackwells. still a good author though and hope he keeps te books going.
>>By Nemesis2842004 (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 03:43)

geo: did you forget the judean people's front, the people's front of judea and the judean popular front?
- Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front? - F*ck off! We're the People's Front of Judea!
>>By trident (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 06:36)
Ha ha ha ha nice one Trident!
>>By Bethan (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 09:04)
Geo and Nem--yeah, consensus on mcnab's anonymity is he just doesn't want to be bothered, which is a good enough reason for me. Also, not surprised Rushdie is a boring git--don't know how the Islamic crowd stayed awake long enough when reading his book to get offended. And Nemesis--nice one with the air rifle. Now I won't rest until I've figured that one out as well. One more thing, Nem--will unlocking a door with a toothbrush get me a Blue Peter BADGE?
>>By Sick of Cute Screennames (Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 09:37)
