Similar to the Mirror article about mistreating Iraqi prisoner:

Also found something in an old interview - "McNab reserves himself the right of frisking the interviewer"
Sigh.

How come I think that wouldn't be such a bad thing? *wg*

am-i-binned: same trajectory just after a few hundred yards a small coating of phosfurus ignites and burns so you can see the trail.
these photos that have come out are fake, first it's a 4 tonne bedford which was very clean for a desert enviroment, secondly a few of the photos show a very distinctive cut and paste technique and thirdly who cares they deserved it anyway.
also the so called apache takes a wounded man out in iraq. one it wasn't iraq it was afganistan, 2 it was war and everyone else disregards the geneva convention so why should we obey it and three if you have seen it? it makes for a good display of technologicaql supremacy especially at a about a mile away.
if any of the posts i have just made offend anyone i am sorry but thats how i feel.

and i also appologise for my spelling

Nem, I'm not sure which photos you're referring to. Do you have an article or addy to help find it?
That's ok about the spelling. We are pretty good at deciphering typoese and as you can see, I usually leave participles dangling all over the place! ;-)

Nemesis, re Mirror images "soldier standing over hooded prisoner"...
What stank about that pic was no back view of soldier's head - was he wearing hard-hat or beret? Brits with "hearts & mind" policy uppermost wear berets except during serious combat conditions...The very fact no head shot was included stinks of rigged scene.
Whatever the outcome to military investigations, the damage is done to troop morale, integrity....Thank You Pierce Morgan!...Arab/Brit relationships are as good as shot to hell....If you're right PM, may you find a place in heaven, if you're wrong, may you justly burn in hell!!
>>By devonwren (Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:15)
Meant to add: with Andy McNab in on the action with PM, (article) there is no unearthly reason why PM couldn't have handed copies of the pics to the correct authority (Gov Dept) long before going to press: if need be, in face of any (possible) MoD cover up...
As I said before "good for AM in speaking out in respect of heads should roll if the pics are proved to be truthful representation of prisoner abuse"...That said, the self-publicist within him could do with taking a back seat from time time!!
One of his most striking quotes reflects the self-publicist streak: within: "I owned a Porsche once (momentary hesitation then befell him, but in for penny in for a pound) My girlfriends liked it."
Don't think that's made it into a book yet...
>>By devonwren (Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:33)
He said that he only bought the Porsche because the salesman sneered at his tracky bottoms, trainers, and motorcycle helmet. Ah, wonder what it's like to be so wealthy?
Anybody read his ex-wife's books; just ordered them but not sure..
>>By camban (Thursday, 6 May 2004 12:11)
Uh-oh, Camban... AM's ex- (Frances Nicholson) only wrote one book, but it is sold under two titles. Married to the SAS (the hardback version) includes photos; Sex Secrets of the SAS (the paperback) does not. Hope it's not too late to cancel one of your orders. My opinion on the actual content? ... hmmm... well, the pictures are good.... ;o)
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 May 2004 12:53)
Camban
I'd say don't bother reading.... I read the paperback version and really it made me cringe from beginning to end, sorry! It's more of a feel sorry for me than a book.
>>By Bethan (Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:31)
Thanks Bethan and Ms. Binned, have cancelled the hardback but too late with paperback, Amazon have already sent it, but with lots more interesting books too!

http://www.militarybookclub.co.uk/mag.asp has all the details of the new chris ryan book if anyone is interested.

Ohman, Nemesis... Is there a way to browse that site without signing up for membership? (my miscellaneous login ids/passwords are rapidly approaching critical mass!) ;o)
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:26)
Happy to, Camban! No probs. :o)
Bethan, would you post the link to those two SAS quizzes, pleeeeeeeeez? Very definitely F Troop appropriate! LOL!!! :oD
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:35)
Nemesis... Re: militarybookclub.co.uk
If there's any more info than that available at (for example)...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/ obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/books/ 1844133834/reviews/202-2443537-5786264
...can you save the page and mail it those of us who aren't members of that book club?

Any gossip on Andy McNab's next book? Read Dark Winter and can't wait for the next one. In a world where reality stinks and life can be really shit, I quite enjoy slipping away into the far fetched fictional world of Nick Stone - although some of the inconsistancies can be a bit annoying - overall his fiction is an excellent read. TBBM
>>By The BIG Bossman (Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:02)
Whoa, it's been a while, BIG Bossman! You been reading all this time? No new news that I know of on Deep Black... despite sensors being on full alert... :o(
So, can't resist asking: Which inconsistancies?
Oh, wait! Do you know how to use the "spoiler" feature? If not, before answering, check out -- www.gnooks.com/discussion/text+formatting.html -- okay?

As requested..... Now join up for your chance to see if you're tough enough!

If you're lucky Eddie Stone'll be waiting at the end to badge you! Returns as usual peeps.

PS I do know that the link really refers to Chris Ryan but then the "tough enough" wouldn't have worked - forgive me!
>>By Bethan (Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:51)
Pssst.... Hey, Bethan? Where's the Artic Survival one?!? :o\
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:00)
....or the Arctic Survival one, for that matter... {{mutter, mutter... stupid typoman...}}
>>By am-i-binned (Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:08)
Just done that quiz, it says I am more SS than SAS, always thought they were poofs really..
>>By camban (Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:15)
Yikes, camban...me too!! More SS than SAS (not the latter part of your sentence...). Quiz results forwarded to Hereford and collated by...?
Motto: Who dares me, loses... But then I never could resist a dare (n.b. that's not the proper noun, tho' you are lovely, Dare!!)
Arctic Survival Quiz @ http://www.uktv.co.uk/ uktvPeople/quiz.cfm?ccs= 49&cs=337&quizid=224582
In which I was given only "a small chance of returning from the Arctic in one piece". Duh!! That's coz I chopped off my fingers to avoid frostbite...
>>By bikergirl (Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:40)
LOL!! I took the quiz and apparently I am "definite SAS potential"! Read it and weep girls!
And that, in spite of the fact that I misread one of the questions. (Misread "someone grabs you from behind" as "someone grabs your behind") Oh well, my answer would have been the same either way!
>>By Majorette (Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:02)
Maj, I'm with you -- I'm "definite SAS potential," as well! Must be a DC thing. What say we blow this town and head out to Hereford? (That doesn't sound quite right....)
Oh wait, we don't have the right anatomy.... or do we...?!
Apparently I'm ready to climb Mt. Everest, too! Guess Girl Scout training came in handy after all. Don't worry, bikergirl, I'll strap on the goggles and furry flap hat to search for your misplaced fingers -- I think I got a badge in Investigating Frozen Parts... or maybe that was Needlework....

Surviving the SAS
Britain’s premier military thriller writer and decorated ex-SAS man, Chris Ryan, delivers another explosive instalment in the exhilarating Matt Browning series. Here, our hero finds himself up against a very dark and powerful force…
The Increment is a tiny unit that operates in the murky shadows between the Regiment, the MI5, MI6 and the Home and Foreign Offices. They are the SAS’s secret squad – a lethal and ruthless killing machine. They don’t do murders. They do assassinations. And, with the help of a dangerous drug, they’re exterminating ex-soldiers, especially ones who know too much - like Matt Browning. His action-packed survival mission takes him all the way to Russia and ends back on British soil with an explosive climax.
Chris Ryan’s latest gut-wrenching adventure is guaranteed to dazzle every one of his existing fans. In fact, it’s quite likely to recruit a whole army of new admirers
