"anyone who served with him and quite a lot of those still alive are old sops in their local pub, info easily extracted!!"

Info easily extracted from those who served with him and are still alive.. WOW!

Nice info Rose, could you tell us how you're so sure about this?

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:22)

Welcome, a rose by any other...

Nice to meet you. Would you like to tell which of AM's books you've read, if you have a favourite, and how you found this messageboard? As to ghostwriters, personally I do believe AM et al have people who assist them with grammar, structure, editing, etc., but I'm very intrigued to know why or how you are so convinced they all have ghostwriters. Care to share? :o)

PS: Interesting that you mention Nish considering he was technical advisor to Frederick Forsyth for one of my personal FF favourites: Fist of God....

>>By am-i-binned   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:30)

eeeeerrrr........ shared kit aib???

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:37)

Like minds, Lynn.... :o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:41)

nice to meet you too,
I know cos I met Nish's Australian ghost writer, while they were working on his book in Spain. Also met the woman who wrote Collin's book at his funeral, forgotten her name, but she has written another book and she has appeared on gardening programs on TV. Andy's ghost writer is also pretty well known when he and Andy hung out together, Andy's publishers now have a stable of writers and they just put Andy's name to the books, sells lots more that way - they all do it, Tom Clancy et al.

>>By a rose by any other   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:50)

Hmmm...
Velly interesting, a rose by any other! Thanks for explaining. And, your favourites, regardless of who wrote/writes them?

>>By am-i-binned   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 21:55)

So they all work together (ghost-)writing/advising and all make big bucks and all make us happy with their joined ventures... perfect world.
You wouldn’t happen to recall the name of AM’s ghostwriter, since he is pretty well known?

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 22:05)

I found this site cos I was looking for a book for my son, he is living in Bahrain, and wanted a copy of an AM book for some Aussies he has met out there, you kind of turned up on a google search!! actually I dislike AM's books, I know how much they are hated here in Hereford. That has coloured my view of them, AM took stories he had heard around the camp fire and then made them his own, and his book is locally known as "the one that RAN away"
I thought the collins book was prob the most honest.

>>By a rose by any other   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 22:06)

the AM ghost writer isn't well know as a writer, but was well known as he shadowed AM as he put the books together.

>>By a rose by any other   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 22:08)

Well, he should be well known, he writes excellent books !!!!
He should start writing under his own name then...

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 22:12)

seems our unit is so top secret, that we're not even on that page ortlieb posted... ;=)

just got falconer's 'first into action'... have to start reading it soon

>>By trident   (Wednesday, 4 Feb 2004 22:27)

Hey, rose by any other, "the one that RAN away". Who was that? Help me here, I feel I've missed out on poof'd messages.

What do you mean hated in Hereford? A lot of people in Hereford hate each other let alone outsiders, the town centre where a bylaw states that a Welshman can be shot on Sundays. Hate is a strong word from someone with a name like "rose by any other", would the other be the wild root stock variety, more prickles than blooms?

Wow, Frederick Forsyth is your hero, and your personal FF favourite: Fist of God....?
The man [FF] wishes the god factor!! The man who picks the brains of SFs in order to write a half-decent book with authentic undertones, the overtones his personal bent on life!!

Sure, ghost writers exist, I know two, and everyone here knows one of them, so do you know the SF author who writes books under two non de plumes?

>>By readit   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 01:02)

Blimey O'Reilly never thought I'd be sharing the same kit as F-troop!!
And they thought I were the enemy, and my mates too and that I was too influenced by bud's and biased toward her.

Whoosh. You fired clean over my head.

Ha ha, AIB, wait till bud's reads this, she'd be awful tempted to level some target practise at the Hereford rose bush.

>>By readit   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 01:22)

Rose.....wasn't it Ryan who "got away", not McNab? Or maybe I've had a few too many?

Readit, is that target practice with a mortar? or something more precise, bolt action say?

take care guys, speak soon

>>By Paul R   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 02:14)

Forgive me, Readit...
... but in all fairness to Rose, I was the one who mentioned FF and Fist of God. I did not, however, say that FF is my hero. I think I can understand to a certain degree why you have issues about FF, but my point was more along the lines of thinking that maybe the reason Fist of God is my favourite FF story is a direct result of Nish being FF's technical advisor for that particular story.

Hi, Trident!
<< ... our unit is so top secret ... >>
Well then no wonder we haven't seen you lately! Uh-oh! Does this mean we'll have to get special top secret security clearance before you'll post anymore stories for us? ;o)

Hey there, Paul R...
Speaking of stories -- not nice leaving us all hanging! Where's the promised goods?!? Part 3! Pronto! Pleeeeeeeez!

Ohmilord, Lynn...
Like minds and three-way kit sharing... (lowering voice to a whisper)... with Readit?

Uh-oh, Readit!
Be afraid. Be very afraid! LOL!!!

>>By am-i-binned   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 08:58)

Re: Ohmilord, Lynn...
It's supposed to be me who's afraid, readit is taking over my job..
What's my tongue supposed to do now..??

By the way: I found this in an article – remember – don’t kill the messenger! I didn’t write this.
“Greed belongs to the genre created by Andy McNab: the breathless SAS novel”

:o)

>>By Lynn   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 09:43)

"the town centre where a bylaw states that a Welshman can be shot on Sundays"
Bugger, does that apply to women too??

>>By Bethan   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 10:16)

Interesting the subject of ghost writers came up on this board, after the McNab quote posted on the CR board. I sense stones and glass houses here....

>>By Bethan   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 10:18)

Welshmen on Sundays and the Feminist movement for equal rights, Beth!! Say no more.

Hey what do you know the red stuff does blinker the obvious!!

OK, it were AIB guilty of stroking FF's ego.

That said, people who refer to "Nish" as Nish on message boards imply personal friendship, and anyone who genuinely knew Nish can say he had a very very very tight circle of "friends". If [it being optimum word] a true friend of his has fallen into F-Troop then it falls on that persons shoulder to clear the air on Ghostwriters yes/no.

A mutual friend who says categorically [buds] YES there are ghostwriters at work busying away right at this moment in time, as for "Nish" who was a guy who would be nice to certain people if caught up in a social whirl that didn't mean he was a friend of that person or that he liked them all that much, in fact he didn't much like his lit agent if truth were know; literally a means unto an end.

I waited on this one but have to say Rosy missed the boat same as F-Troop "The one That Ran Away" It's is a joke in Hereford to do with McNab hopping in and out of marital beds, not always his own!!!

Liberal sprinkling of salt on tongues girls, readit is off on a job for a week or two. See ya when I get back, maybe.

Shared kit girls was only so I could nick the chocolate ration.

>>By readit   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 11:02)

Excellent thinking Readit, if our butts suffer from computer use at least the chocolate won't add to the problems ;o)
Be careful on job - what are we here without you..

Has anyone ever seen this site

Hmm.... interesting info about ghostwriters, I must say.

Perhaps this adds to the explanation as to why there are so many ex-reg's disapproving of AM and CR's literature stardom: not only did they breach a level of confidence (as rosy said: stealing colleagues' stories from the campfire), but they haven't even written the stuff themselves!

Even so, regardless of who ultimately has written the books, I think they make a great reading.

[ Rosy ]

Where there ghostwriters on B20 and TOTGA as well, or only the fictions?
And a deeper question if you don't mind: I would imagine if the claims you've put forward on ghostwriting is indeed true, I wonder why hasn't there been a publical scandal and bad press about it? I anticipate an "it's a closely guarded local Hereford secret" answer coming on, but if that's the case, then I suppose you've let the cat of out the preverbial bag then, haven't you? Nevermind me though -- I'm not running to the Daily Mirror, but still......

As all the regulars know, I've been a pain regarding the "discrepancies" comparing B20 and TOTGA. If these turns out to be the works of "assistant writers" as well, then what's the story on Cameron Spence, Robin Horsfall, Victor Crossland etc. ?

And I find it odd that Michael Asher and/or Peter Ratcliffe -- who were shining the torch of very critical light on the before-mentioned SAS-authors -- apparantly wasn't aware of this "ghostwriter"-fact at all..... ?

>>By ortlieb   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 13:12)

Maybe I'm missing something, Rose, but I don't see what the big deal is about ghost writers. All I care about when I pick up a book is that it will hold my interest for the few hours it takes to read it. I don't really care whose name is on the cover because it's not the author I am developing a relationship with, it's the characters. Same thing with movies. I don't really care who wrote the script, who directed it, or even who starred in it, as long as I get my money's worth when I sit down in the theater.

oh, and I KNEW there was something about readit I didn't like.... he's a damn chocolate stealer!! (I'll probably catch another nasty flork for that one in a few weeks time. oh well.)

>>By Majorette   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 13:34)

apropos of nothing...

"how long before television produces Book Idol, in which the three people in Britain who still have pretensions to literary grandeur will be painstakingly whittled down to one over 52 weeks, and the public will vote for none of them and elect Andy McNab president instead?"

>>By bikergirl   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 14:13)

If only, bikergirl!!!

>>By TabariGoddess   (Thursday, 5 Feb 2004 18:37)

PANIC OFF!!!!! I am back.
and with that I shall go again, BUt I will be back now that I have a computer to come back to,.

will say however, am still slowly ploughing through boring Independance Day and AM...tut - what a pile of pap - I am sorry to say I now firmly believe that its just a ghost writer churning these out. sigh. burst bubble...hehe.

>>By Pomplemous   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 11:40)

I agree, McNab needs to get a better ghost writer, the books are getting so bad they should now be put in the comedy section! He is in it for the money, I now read the first few pages in the bookshop and put it straight back on the shelf, he is taking us all for idiots

>>By dhobi queen   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 13:28)

Wow, I'm back I'm back from Neverneverland!!! (maybe I should have stayed there aswell, but it was like hell)

Just had a quick peek at the board, and i noticed there has been some poofing going on, now how is that.
What did i miss, also noticed some new-comers too, great!!!HELLO!

Had a hell of a week, pc having a major nervous breakdown and had to have some major surgery, with me as assistant wearing latex gloves and.......(cough cough), anyway we peformed a Brain TRansplantation to the pc, so everything should be fine now, our patient is still having some IV together with a multivitamine diet so everything should go well.
Me, i had a food-poisoning on sunday, my car broke down on monday, tuesday i was working and when I went back to the car I had a flat tire, wednesday 3 patients cancelled their appointment 'cause of the flu, yesterday was hectic, and today for the mo it's ok.

Anyway, i'm happy, my books have arrived so now I should go eeny meeny miny mo, or Mirror mirror on the wall wich one is the toughest of them all :
Peter Ratcliffe - Eye of the storm (has a load of pics in it, and as I opened it I found a passage about B20)
Duncan Falconer - The Hostage (and there's another pic of the man, but he's lost some hair, ooops sorry DF)
Strangely on DF's book there's a red sticker saying :" As good as Andy Mcnab or your money back"........hmmmmmm.......strange, well hopefully DF doesn't have a ghostwritter and writes the stuff himself.
I've read his First into action and just loved the book.

>>By borisette   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 14:28)

Is that right Readit Welshmen can be shot on Sundays in Hereford? Not sure if you were being glib but
In York IT is still legal to shoot Scots if you use a boa and arrow.

Cheers Rose for your input - very interesting.

>>By Nomad   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 15:27)

I meant bow and arrow of curse.

>>By Nomad   (Friday, 6 Feb 2004 15:28)

Welcome back, Pomplemous!!!
We've been missin' ya! And, yeah, I think you must really be having a bit of a problem there with Liberation Day, considering you've also renamed it .... hahaha!

Good grief, Borisette!
You and NS! If it weren't for bad luck, eh? Go for DF's book first, let Ratcliffe wait (besides, his attitude gets on my nerves... hahaha!)

Welcome, dhobi queen...
Can't help wondering tho, much as you're voicing disappointment with AM now, there must be *something* to bring you here AND get you florked up for posting with us on your very first day! So, SOP's in effect, how did you happen upon this board/this forum, and which is (or should I say "was") your favourite AM book?

Brilliant, Ortlieb...
<< And I find it odd that Michael Asher and/or Peter Ratcliffe -- who were shining the torch of very critical light on the before-mentioned SAS-authors -- apparantly wasn't aware of this "ghostwriter"-fact at all..... ? >>
See! I knew you were more than just a pretty cammed-up face! Of course, you're right -- how could Asher and Ratcliffe possibly resisted letting that tantalizing little factoid out of the bag? ..... unless...... Oh-no! Asher and Ratcliffe must have ghostwriters, too! Ohmigod! Such ruthless guile! Such inventive resourcefulness! Will there be no end to these clever deceptions perpetrated on poor unsuspecting civvies?

Hey there, Nomad...
Glad to see you. Where've you been OP'ing? Glad too that you explained that law in York cuz I was wondering how you'd train a snake to stab the poor Scots with arrows, but I see now that you kill them with a gift wrapped curse (which one, btw? asterisks please). (Hey, would that be sorta like the gift of blarney -- telling someone to go to hell and have them looking forward to the trip?)
