Hey buddy. I thought DW was gripping all the way through, and also every time i read his new books I feel more and more familiar with Nick. I feel like he's my mate! The ending was also stunning, which was quality. Bring on the next book! Anyone know when it's due???

Hail, Impatience, thy name is Ignaty! :o)

(funny thing, Ignaty, impatience is my name, too!)

Flew into mailbox...

"Proof of Life" - ex SAS consultants on hand:
Which Andy McNab book does it remind you of, despite variation on reason for mission? Bit of a bummer!!

What it's about:

An action-adventure love story based on the Vanity Fair article "Adventures in the Ransom Trade" by William Prochnau.

"Proof of Life" tells the story of a hostage negotiator who flies to Colombia and, in the process of obtaining the release of a U.S. corporate executive, falls in love with the man's wife.

>>Buddy: "Proof of Life" tells the story of a hostage negotiator who flies to Colombia and, in the process of obtaining the release of a U.S. corporate executive, falls in love with the man's wife.

Sounds more like the film "Ransom & Kidnapping" (... or something like that!) with Russell Crowe.

Hi all, long time no Flork... '¬_¬ ... I mean, post.
Just to divert back a little while to whom might be the right actors/actresses, in "Last Light" I think Jennifer Connelly might look pretty much (isn't she? :) ) like Carrie.
For a while I thought Russell Crowe could fit in in Mr Andy's boots, but then after slapping my face a couple dozen of times, I've scratched that idea out.

Other suggestions? Hey Lynn, still willing to razor off your scalp to be Lynn? *griNN*
:D

... I shouldn't write at this hour of the morning, *sigh*! :(
Repeated exactly what Buddy said upstairs. Well, hope to give a laugh to someone who might need one. :D

*shrudder*

a bunch of guys tramping through South America (the Andes) searching for a pay packet (aka kidnap victim with large insurance sum).......sounds like the first chapter of a really crap book!

take care, speak soon

>>By Paul R   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 03:35)

Oh I don't know Paul R... when well written it could be a good read

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 09:18)

Paul !!!!

Quote: a bunch of guys tramping through South America (the Andes) searching for a pay packet (aka kidnap victim with large insurance sum).......sounds like the first chapter of a really crap book!

Subtle change of words: a bunch of guys tramping through South America Columbian jungle) searching for a pay packet (aka one man to kill a man).......sounds like the first chapter of a really crap book!

The skill (or not): making it last 20 + chaps.

Thing is, though, on the book shelves of W.H.Smiths /Waterstones etc, not forgetting Amazon/B&N etc., one can instantly pick out the books of today and the authors who've been groomed by lit agents to as good as write scripts. Take highly descriptive Graham Greene books (films made of). All his books are jam-packed with text (weighty in quantity) yet easily adaptable to script. In effect
the 'quality' of writing is so good that he writes a script within smooth textual prose...Ah, a real master of the written/spoken word: a word smith!!!...

AM is getting there, too, but I wish his books read more like a weighty book than a film script...

Right I'm out of here - flight to catch....

I thought this would interest you all, the soldier 5 thing intrigued me and after some searching, I've found it.

www.mainstreampublishing.com/
private/index.shtml

Due to be published March 2004 UK and Commonwealth, interestingly different ISBN number to that supposedly allocated to it before. Let's hope this is true and not leading us up the garden path again. Nice cover though.

After the daring escape of Andy McNab, assisted by the Ortlieb half of Hunter Force One...it seems AM has chosen to struggle (once again) through the nastiest bush. Ortlieb has simply walked around it...

AIB : "Come in Hunter Force One, Hunter Force One are you receiving me, over"
AIB : "Hunter Force One, got your ears on buddies?" (can you guess the show?)

Nothing but crackling...

O : "One half of Hunter Force One over. I have the target, repeat I have the target, over"
AIB : "Good work Hunter Force One, is the other half with you?"
O : "Negative, he was captured"
AIB : "Keep McNab with you, it's essential he remains in our control"
O : "Roger that"

Ortlieb turns back to the bush...
O : "Andy...we're mates now aren't we?"
No response.
O : "I'll take that as an affirmative. So...now we're mates...I have a few more B20 questions for you if that's OK"

Ortlieb brings out a long list. Slowly he becomes aware that it's now the F Troop shopping list he's holding...those naughty B.A.B.E.S have sabotaged his plan (would we be so cruel??)
Flapping slightly now, he tries to remember what his Really Important Questions were...

Meanwhile, the struggling in the bush has stopped...
O : "Andy mate, are you allright in there? I seem to have lost my list of carefully constructed questions. You're safe to come out now..."
Still no response.
O : "Andy...mate...are you OK?"
Ortlieb wanders round the other side of the bush. There's a pair of black boots sticking out.
O : "Andy!!!..."
Ortlieb struggles into the bush and finds a stick with an inflated latex glove sporting a drawn-on smiley face tied to the top...
O : "WTF?" before staring to flap...now he's let AM slip away too...just like those incompetent B.A.B.E.S...
Ortlieb regains his composure quickly, starting a systematic search for fresh sign...in fact any sign of AM

On the other side of town (where we were several episodes ago...keep up!!!) we find a still tied-up CR. He's been alone for several days now, passing the time by singing to himself..."Our eyes connected...Now nothing's how it used to be...No second guesses"

Borisette is on her way back to the F Troop secret HQ when she hears the tune. She jumps out of her gleaming red Italian Stallion of a car and sneaks up to the house. As she draws nearer she just can't stop herself...she starts dancing...

CR : "Nice moves babe..." as he watches her in silhouette against the streetlights
Boris : "Oh...it's you...Romeo One (original and best...)"
CR : "Sssshhhh!!! Let me sing...Track in on this feeling...pull focus close up you and me...nobody's leaving"
Boris : "Well...that's obvious...you've been here for days...shall I untie you?"
CR : "Please babe...but quietly...I like my singing..."
As Borisette moves nearer to release CR
CR : "Don't wanna rush it...let the rhythm pull you in...it's here so touch it"
Boris : "Oh Chris..."
Borisette realises too late...it's an extravagant ambush...with the usual discarded latex, CR restrains her.
CR : "Yet again...I'm The One That Got Away. But, I like your moves...you're comin' too babe"
CR drags Borisette back to her car and they disappear into the distance in a haze of wheelspinning smoke...

Will Borisette survive the SlimFast regime at the hands of CR?
Has Borisette become CR's number one girl?
Will Bethan and bikergirl ever forgive her? Or dance like her?
What has become of Stan and Lynn? Dare we find out?
Oh yeah...we've lost AM again....(at least this time it wasn't just the B.A.B.E.S fault...)

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 14:27)

MOST EXCELLENT JOB, B.A.B.E.S.!!!!!

your GI friend, a-i-b :oD

(no, I'm not that macho! -- grinning idjit)

[Damn, now I've run out of BenGay again! ....and as this GI trudges off in search of analgesic relief for aching face muscles, what's that I hear? Ho, ho, ho... hmmm.... ;o) ]

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 14:38)

BenGay (!) back on this board, I'm still very suspicious of anything that would call itself that. AIB are you sure it's good for you?

>>By Bethan   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 15:27)

Hmmm..... vbg! yeah!

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 15:34)

Bethan, I've learned to appreciate BenGay since F Troop was 'born', it excellent for sour muscles. Men don't seem to like it really though..
:o)
Once again: Excellent BABES job ! If F Troop starts honorary awards be sure BABES will be candidate.. ;o)

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 15:50)

Oooh! Brainwave.... there are the Oscars, the Emmys -- the SASies? :o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 16:19)

Yep, and instead of the punishment hat and/or bench we can have the Golden Sasberry during Sazzie Awards..

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 16:37)

Oooh boy, you've got me this time,.... and then you said I had the bottle, well who has it now!!!
(for those who don't understand what I'm talking about go and see CR's board first)

Great job BABES! How did you know I was a good dancer??

>>By borisette   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 17:40)

Pssst, Borisette....

Beware the CCTVs!

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 2 Dec 2003 18:11)

LOL You guys are too much!

>>By Dare   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 01:54)

I really think us guys should form a counterpart to B.A.B.E.S.

I suggest O.D.O.U.R (Ortlieb and Dare's On-going Undercover Retaliations).

Can't have these overzealous females get the best of us?? Guys..... guys ... ?

>>By ortlieb   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 10:39)

Um Ortlieb isn't Dare a girl? So Dare, whose side are you on ha ha. The one that doesn't smell!

>>By Bethan   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 12:40)

Don't worry, Ortlieb...

Seeing as Dare and I are somewhat joined at the hip, I'm sure your invite will be considered a great compliment. Now what would be scary is Paul R, Astroboy, Trident, you, Ignaty, and Scouse teamed up! Think of the combination (of accents) -- the PATOIS !!!

Uh-oh, tho -- maybe I shouldn't be putting such ideas in your heads... vbg! vbw!
Yeah, right! As if! Go for it! I dare ya! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!

(ooops, did that sound a bit maniacal? hope so!)

LOL!!! ;oD

>>By am-i-binned   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 14:22)

OMG, he's been overturned already!!
This is far worse than I ever could have imagined!!

2IC, prepare for launch!!

>>By ortlieb   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 15:35)

PATOIS.. sounds great. Looking forward to it Ortie !!! :o)

(but eeeeerrrr.. what is Patois...eeeeerrrrr.... ok let's check..... oooooohhh "from a blending of accents from different nationalities... to make a unique language and accent...like Creole in New Orleans..."
Now that makes sense: Aussie-US-Finnish-Norwegian-English/Scouse. That would make a nice Patois :o)

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 16:45)

PATOIS boys...if you need help with scriptwriting...the B.A.B.E.S fees are very reasonable <vbg>

>>By bikergirl   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 18:49)

BG dearie, you're back, how is the hand doing.
Could help you out with some therapy there.
Just come up and see me some time, sailor

>>By borisette   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 19:34)

Boris...keep it quiet 'bout me 'n the sailors...I'm in enough trouble already..don't want them after me too <vbg>

>>By bikergirl   (Wednesday, 3 Dec 2003 21:44)

B.A.B.E.S. & PATOIS... sounds like that pizza I've ordered some nightmares ago, served by a foxy girl on a Harley together with another chick on a Bethan, pardon, Sedan!

... giggleweed, anyone!?

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Thursday, 4 Dec 2003 00:52)

Aye, Ort, 'fraid I'm a "blasted female". Does this mean the recruitment option is rescinded?
