What about Dominic West to play Nick? Saw him in something recently and thought he could do a good job.

>>By Dare   (Thursday, 4 Dec 2003 04:56)

Hi, Dare...
28 Days is the only movie I know Dominic West from -- is that the movie you saw? (Whispered: don't remember him much other than not liking his character Jasper.) Unfortunately for Dominic, same movie had Viggo Mortensen, so I'll admit to being a bit distracted... :o)

Dare:

I've come to implement another tactic though: if you can't beat them, join them. ;)

>>By ortlieb   (Thursday, 4 Dec 2003 14:50)

{ Whispered }:

Oooh, Dare, this is working out brilliantly! You've already gotten Ortlieb to reveal part of their strategy! Well done! Freddie the Hamster would be proud (ref pgs 21-22)... vbg! vbw!

Nomad? Are you here? Well, thinking positive:

The publication order of AM's fiction is: Remote Control, Crisis Four, Firewall, Last Light, Liberation Day, and Dark Winter. On pg 106, Bethan posted the link (below) to Random House's promo site which includes a sample excerpt from Remote Control. Read that, and I'm quite sure you'll take the plunge. :o)

Yes, Dominic West was Jasper in 28 Days, Lysander in A Midsummer's Night Dream, Fred Casley in Chicago, Fred in A Christmas Carol (the Patrick Stewart version), Henry, Earl of Richmond in Richard III (Ian McKellan version), and a palace guard in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. :)

Viggo is very nice, but I think he may be a bit too "refined", or "physically beautiful but delicate and far from macho" as buddy quoted, to play Nick. Dominic looks like he could carry off the roughness, "grey man", sudden menace and violence, charm and vulnerability necessary to make Nick come alive on screen. He's one of several that could do the job well. Whether he's interested in the job, considering it would take some serious training to do a thoroughly convincing job, would be the question. That is IF the studios ever get past the "discussion" phase. :)

>>By Dare   (Thursday, 4 Dec 2003 19:19)

Oh no, no no no This West guy I don't like him at all.
I totally have to disagree with you here Dary dear.
My crush goes on Eric Bana, for doing NS.
But then I wonder "will they ever ever make some movie or tv series of these books".

Paul R if you're out there,....we're still waiting...

>>By borisette   (Thursday, 4 Dec 2003 22:30)

I don't know Eric Bana. What's he been in? Well, as far as West goes, he's just one idea. ;)

>>By Dare   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 00:48)

Why not one of us play Nick? I'd vote for myself but wrong sex, so that leaves about......oh one token male! Step up Ortlieb you time for stardom is here. Just think, he'd need minimal training, he already uses Slim Fast so the Hollywood diet crew will love him and being ex-military he'll have the 'don't mess with me' look. I am a genius, hey Ort can I be your agent?

>>By Bethan   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 10:32)

I can be Tom, I've his looks! (more or less!...)
'¬_¬

... but must I do EXACTLY like in the script?! :(

Bethan:

I'm like putty in your hands!

>>By ortlieb   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 21:56)

Btw Bethan:

Have you read the stories about SAS operatives doing their under-covert work in Northern Ireland? I'm thinking in particular in what physical shape they acquire after months of swilling beer at the local pubs, letting their hair grow and generally let theirselves go.

Well... all of the above applies to me - besides the hairlenght (I've got short hair).
But I'm doing weightlifting 3 times a week and put jogging in between (of course applying CR's program). I'm a live billboard.

Might wanna contact Viggo for the role. I'll be the crazy PIRA revenger.

>>By ortlieb   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 22:45)

Hihihi; we have a treadmill, bought some months ago. I walk on it (in a certain way too.) everyday after work for 15 mins, now 20 mins (adding in more minutes everytime.), with 2 kgs on each foot, and on both hands. After that, I do some sort of personal push-ups, then I'm ready for shower, pretty sweaty too. :)
I've what looks like a drinking tummy (more like a rubber dinghy...), and even if I don't eat meat I'm meaty myself. Quite robust all in all, and never tried going on a diet (Garfield quoted: Diet is "Die" with a "t"; I agree.).
No CR's plans here, only my own ideas. :P

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 23:28)

Dare, Eric is the one who played Hooter in Black Hawk Down, and he did Hulk aswell.

Rexyboy, you should try CR's slimfasties, they really work, once you start eating them your cheeks start getting all sort'off cementlike hardish so you can't move your jaw any more.

Bethan and BG, Versace 's got a new design coming out, actually it's more the textile they'll be usìng, guess what...............CLINGFILM.
So how about having your New Years outfit made of that material, haaaa!!

Orty darling, I read on your florkyprofile your only 24 , soo that makes you too young to play NS.
We want a more mature man, so go get some wrinkles.

>>By borisette   (Friday, 5 Dec 2003 23:40)

How about NS's long lost son..... ? A pain-in-the-ass nephew at least??
"Nick..... show me that stealthy throat-slitting trick again.... Uncle Nicky!!"

>>By ortlieb   (Saturday, 6 Dec 2003 00:50)

ROFL!

>>By Dare   (Saturday, 6 Dec 2003 02:56)

Borisette clingfilm? Only if Andy's not had his hands on it!!!

Ort / Deus - just remember it's more important to be built for comfort and not for speed! And most importantly body fat slows the ageing process - now if that's not the best reason not to diet I don't know what is.

>>By Bethan   (Saturday, 6 Dec 2003 12:05)

>show me that stealthy throat-slitting trick again....
Hey...save the party tricks for the B.A.B.E.S Christmas party...
Combined with B.A.B.E.S in clingfilm for the NY Bash...should make for good entertainment...

>...it's more important to be built for comfort and not for speed!
Oh no...I need the speed...for evasion purposes...
No, hang on...I just like going fast...

Now then I've just got a revelation from SR (Swedish Reader) . Did you all know that Santa is an infiltrated SAS operator, doing HALO on the night between 24 -25 of dicember.

>>By borisette   (Saturday, 6 Dec 2003 14:26)

Hahahahaha!! Didn't know that Santa Paws was such a fitness freak!
:D

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Saturday, 6 Dec 2003 20:17)

So it's really Sasta Claus ?? (christ, how lame can you get)

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 7 Dec 2003 00:09)

Noticed our Merry Gardener did some good work on page 109,
thank you mate, owe you one !!

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 7 Dec 2003 00:13)

(eeeerr to make sure: I thought I was lame, not SR's message about the infiltrated Santa - in case you misunderstood)

Ortie, would you go for being one of Valentin's nephews? At least AIB will finally know who at least one of them is.

Oh thanx Bethan, I thought was just lucky to look so young, now I know it's due to bodyfat :o( haha

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 7 Dec 2003 19:10)

Man, I'm getting younger by the pound! So if I'm losing weight, does that mean I LOOK older? Sheeesh, what a dilemma!

>>By Dare   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 01:40)

Hi, All...

Re: SPOILER Postings...and our Merry Gardener... :o)

MG has just designed a totally new feature for us -- a very "cutting edge" way of posting Spoilers. MG's solution "hides" the Spoiler text by making it the same colour as the background, eliminating any chance that your eye might take in text you'd rather not read. A deliberate decision is required to read the actual Spoiler because it will only become visible if you click and drag across the posting field, highlighting the hidden text and turning it a contrasting colour. MG has already applied this feature to the Spoilers we posted on pg 109.

Since this is still new and experimental, MG set up a "Text Formatting" discussion board where we can try out creating Spoiler postings. It's actually rather easy: instead of posting "SPOILER WARNING" before the text, you type
and then
at the end of the text, bracketing the Spoiler text you want hidden.

You can try it out at: www.gnooks.com/discussion/text+formatting.html

I'd like to mention that as far back as page 13, we had discussed how to post Spoilers in this forum. At that time, it was agreed that posting "SPOILER WARNING" (the way most newsgroups and messageboards do) would be adequate and acceptable here. But, unfortunately, even though the appropriate SPOILER WARNING headings were used, our recent posts on pg 109 still seemed to generate problems for some of the readers of this board.

So I want to thank MG for once again being so responsive to our needs. By designing this new feature for us, MG has resolved the problem of someone unintentionally reading a Spoiler because it places the decision to read or not to read squarely upon the individual reader. And I must say, I think his solution is excellent! :o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 05:24)

Oooops! Look! It works REALLY well -- hahahaha!!!

Well, if you go to MG's "Text Formatting" board, you'll see the secret code words that triggered that Spoiler box!

Good grief! I sure got me good with that one! LOL!!!! :oD

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 05:30)

Good Morning, All...

Hahaha! Oooh, I'm still chuckling... and especially cuz I gave MG a florking good laugh at my trying to post his secret magical words!

Oooh, laugh at me, will ya?!? I'll copy your magical secrets!

Oh-no! I can't even to copy them! You're too clever for me, MG!
('course that's not saying much, I realize)... Hahaha! :oD

>>By am-i-binned   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 13:30)

I thought Santa would be more into HAHO HO HO no? sorry that's really poor.

What is a spoiler? Is this when someone reveals a detail of the plot etc that will spoil the book for someone else?

I have oly read B2Z and IA is currently on the basha side table.

>>By Nomad   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 13:55)

Nomad:

Your spoiler-theory is correct.

By the way: they've also made a movie-version of B20 in case you didn't know - starring Sean Bean as Andy McNab.
Tthey also made a TV-version of The One That Got Away, but that production has serious flaws due to the production-company taking over and giving themselves an artistic license. Chris Ryan was consequently not happy about this. I recommend both movies, althuogh they certainly don't clear up the confusion regarding discrepancies.

>>By ortlieb   (Monday, 8 Dec 2003 14:46)

Hi again, Nomad...

Got me grinning with Santa's High Altitude Ho-Ho-Ho...

To answer about Spoilers, as Ortlieb confirmed, your assumption is correct. Spoilers are always a sticky issue because in public forums like this you never really know who might be lurking, only reading but not posting, so you cannot assume that everyone will be happy about detailed discussions of stories they may or may not have read yet. I mentioned that we discussed posting spoilers long ago on pg 13, but for new arrivals to our board, it's asking too much now to expect anyone to read through all the previous pages! Converted to a Word document, our 112 pgs equal about 1,000 pages now! Oooh, War and Peace, Part Deux (vbg! in more ways than one, vbw!).

Oddly, even tho we agreed to Spoiler Warnings back then, we were still hesitant about posting specifics so most spoiler discussions occurred offboard. The downside to offboarding is that it is limited to one-on-one conversations, and as the board grows, trying to share the same ideas with several people becomes very time-consuming. And, in reality, that’s the point of messageboards; everyone can be included in the same conversation at the same time. MG's new feature, however, addresses the problem of how NOT to read the text of a Spoiler post. The only thing MG's solution cannot prevent is human curiosity, of course. There's still the possibility that people will highlight and read hidden posts, thereby spoiling the story for themselves, but ultimately it will have been their own decision -- the assumption being we are all adult enough to accept the consequences of our own decisions.

That said, my impression is that MG's Spoiler solution will be used very discretely and that, for the most part, we will continue to speak in general terms about AM's books/stories. It is good, however, to have such an innovative and effective tool in place, because, first and foremost, members of F Troop always try to be considerate of both fellow posters and quiet lurkers... :o)
