BiaM has oddly been nothing but a gentlemen to me offboard Reignman. Can you say the same? Reap as you shall sow - sound familiar?
Thanx Jon, I commented on the use of language and bravo'd BiaM because he didn't let himself drag into the same style.

Podcast: Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. The term podcast like 'radio', can mean both the content and the method of delivery. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. Podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their files; a podcast however is distinguished by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading RSS or Atom feeds.

@ a corpse is no longer a human being
A little piece from At hell's Gate (C.A Thomas)
During basic training I was taught to hate. On the firing range we were shooting at targets that resembled people. We were learning to kill human beings. We had to be taught how to do that – that is the work of the military. This work is done in a variety of subtle and not-so-subtle ways. When we were done on the firing range, we were supposed to stack our weapons in a particular way. One day, as I was preparing to place my rifle on the stack, I dropped it. The drill instructor, a sergeant first class, screamed and cursed that I wasn’t looking after my rifle properly, that my rifle was the most important thing in my life, because whether I lived or died depended on it. This guy was six feet three inches to my five feet eight an a half. He stood in front of me, his chest jammed up against my face, stabbing me with his finger and screaming obscenities down at me. Then he pulled out his penis and urinated on me, in front of everyone. I wasn’t allowed to wash for two days. I felt shame at such a deep level, I couldn’t begin to handle it. Instead, all I felt was rage. I couldn’t act it out on him because I would have gone to jail. So I focused my rage on the enemy. The enemy was everyone unlike me, everyone who was not an American soldier. This conditioning is an essential ingredient in the creation of a good soldier. Soldiers are trained to see anything other as dangerous, threatening, and potentially deadly. You dehumanize the enemy. You dehumanize yourself.
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 4 Jul 2006 12:01)
Ahem. Now listen up, BiaM, JJ, R...
(btw, that's alpha order, so no pushing or shoving over preferential treatment or ranking...)
"... The enemy was everyone unlike me ... This conditioning is an essential ingredient in the creation of a good soldier. Soldiers are trained to see anything other as dangerous, threatening, and potentially deadly."
Now, let's see -- would the REAL and ACTIVE soldiers, please stand up? Ooops, you all stood up. My mistake. Obviously, you're all real and active soldiers -- in your own minds. Witness how you've turned this messageboard into a strategic battlefield -- aggressive combatants, engaged in an anything-but-enlightening War of Words.
"... You dehumanize the enemy. You dehumanize yourself."
How true, how true. Just look what it's done to my perception of your humanity... ;o)
Please, guys, enuf is enuf. At ease. Stand down. Sit up. Roll over. Play dead. Whatever. Just knock it off. Argue your differing points of view, yes, it makes for very interesting reading! But, I'm telling you: Quit lobbing the vulgarities and insults. You unequivocally lose the battle when you resort to those tactics.
The point of coming here, contrary to what some trollish philosophers may think, is to enjoy the company and the R&R, remember?
And anyway.... Who Wins Grins! :o)
>>By am-i-binned (Tuesday, 4 Jul 2006 15:21)
Or, the other way of looking at it...
Who Grins Wins! :oD
>>By am-i-binned (Tuesday, 4 Jul 2006 15:23)
Am-I-Grinning?
For something grinningly different: It's all in the details.... we already had this: Recuperating in Switzerland after a job that cost the life of one of his closest friends, ex-deniable operator Nick Stone is looking for a quiet life. But when his private life starts to disintegrate, Nick is reluctantly forced back into action. The trail leads him to Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it isn't long before his dark past comes knocking on his door.
And there's now this: Recuperating in Switzerland after a job that cost the life of one of his closest friends, ex-deniable operator Nick Stone has only two things on his mind: to ask his girlfriend Silky to marry him, and to lead a quieter life. But when his newfound love disappears, Nick is forced back into action. The trail leads him to Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it isn’t long before the past comes knocking on his door. . .
Now you guys go discus that RPG and I'll go wonder how he's planning to propose... will someone get Nick on his knees voluntarily??
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 4 Jul 2006 22:01)
Cheers for the info on the podcast Lynn...WHOOOOOOSH...lordy.. did you hear that!! thats all that technical stuff going right over my head :-)
dehumanizing...mmm i didnt kill em, they were dead already, just empty recepticles for the lives they once held.
>>By BushisaManiac (Tuesday, 4 Jul 2006 22:03)
I wish Reighnman hadn't left. I acted far more immaturely than he did, I'm just too stubborn to leave. And aib, you're right, I went with personal attacks rather than arguing the issues, and that's what I'm sorry for. BIAM and I certainly ain't friends contrary to RMan's assertions, but I am glad to say I think next time we argue I will do so as an adult and a gentleman. Anyway...On to Andy... I'm really happy to hear the new book will be set in Africa. I've a friend from Africa who tells me the situation there is so much different than what the media shows us, that the people there are so barbaric it's impossible to cast them as victims of anything but their own savagery. I hope Andy will as always paint an accurate picture and not just do the Bono-style "these poor victims of colonialism and AIDS" thing. Above isn't racist, btw...There's plenty of barbaric, savage white people here in Georgia!

Which one was Silky?
What happened to Carrie?
I'm sure i know who Silky is, just not re-read the books for a while :-(
pass me a cuba libre while youre there barman por favor
>>By BushisaManiac (Thursday, 6 Jul 2006 01:48)
Poor Silky...If Nick really loves her that much, her chances of surviving the book are slim indeed.
>>By Just Jon (Thursday, 6 Jul 2006 02:28)
Sorry, forgot to answer that Silky is the chick Nick met in Australia in "Aggressor," and Carrie dumped him (I think Liberation Day), undoubtedly saving her life in the process.

ATTENTION MCNAB RESEARCHERS (this means you, Lynn)... Searching for and snagging google images is now easier than ever with Googlegrab, a free, small application that doesn't even require install. The guys on here might also find it useful for finding, well...all sorts of stuff. Just follow the link, figure out whether you have OSX or Windows, click appropiate link to download, unzip, and double-click the exe within the folder to get it going. It's very self-explanatory and a definite time-saver. Hint--since you don't need to actually install this, you can put it wherever you want. To "uninstall," just delete it. Wow, I said all that without being sarcastic. Proud of myself. Okay, here's the link: http://www.sas21.de/apps/googlegrab/ And send me all the cool Andy/SAS pics you find for gml!

Despite above link being bad, I found what greenfyre wanted me to see, and I agree with all of that. I never said we shouldn't fight AIDS or help people in Africa, I merely meant that once they're healthy and well-fed they'll continue killing and eating each other. We should still help them. There is, by the way, a very sober and mature look at race relations on randymcfab.com...I'm trying to post new stories more often, having realized that the quality can't suffer if there's no quality to begin with.
>>By Just Jon (Friday, 7 Jul 2006 00:54)
Awesome new stuff on GML Jon!! Won't mention here but go see www.greymansland.com !!
In the 'woods' AM speaks of the British Army being knows as the 'borrowers' - that's not new. It suddenly got me wondering though if there's any relation being the UK special forces having to be very creative/inventive and being called 'the best of the world' ?? (Of course I am not talking about the British soldiers needing decent sleeping bags)
Then I'd like to repeat a little part of what AM said in this show.... Worth repeating because imho it's important this will become more and more 'normal' in soldiers careers.
"responsibility to our troops doesn't stop when they come home. There are young men - some of them in their 20s - who have suffered both mentally and physically in operations from Northern Island, to the Balcans and Iraq. Friends of mine have committed suicide - there simply was no one there to listen or assist them after the war they fought in. Very soon we'll see others needing our help and support when they return from Afghanistan. Other countries respect and look after its soldiers. We don't."
>>By Lynn (Tuesday, 11 Jul 2006 14:11)
Yes its all 'stiff upper lip' here in the UK... mental disorders whether PTSD or not embarress people so it's all sort of brushed under the carpet.. and Historically the MOD dont do much for ex soldiers anyway... no vets hospitals here... no sir!!
>>By BushisaManiac (Wednesday, 12 Jul 2006 00:18)
Things aren't rosy for vets here in the U.S., either. True, we have vet hospitals, but they really suck. I know this for a fact because I've visited friends in them. Also, the unemployment rate for vets is many times higher than the average, ironically in spite of the fact that the military sells itself as a job training program.
>>By Just Jon (Wednesday, 12 Jul 2006 01:18)
get over it guys and gals, everyones doomed to reality, i'm now a civvie and enjoying the money cp work is bringing in plus I don't live in the uk anymore thank god.
>>By fony (Saturday, 15 Jul 2006 01:25)
I'm sorry, I must have accidentally given the impression that I give a shit one way or the other. I was just pointing out that "soldier" is a crap job no matter where you live--might have something to do with the whole doing whatever you're told and killing people thing. As for not being in UK, where are you then? Alabama? And what the hell is cp work? I've googled, I've searched, I've wracked my brain...Best I can come up with is "Cat Psychologist." Which is a good job, I support that sort of thing. Pet the nice kitty.
>>By Just Jon (Sunday, 16 Jul 2006 04:20)
CP = close protection, body guard to civvies, so fony must unlearn trade-speak now he is one of us.
Jon, biographer of R. McFab, you are a genius my friend.
>>By camban (Monday, 17 Jul 2006 11:47)
Soldier is a good job in the UK and US, but then again you need to have served to actually have a fucking idea. And thanks camban for deciphering my mil speak.
>>By fony (Monday, 17 Jul 2006 19:45)
Thank you, Cam. The last McFab entry came out poorly, even offended ME, but what the hell, you can't win 'em all. Now, about soldier being a good job, and whether one would have to serve to have a "fucking idea." I would like you, fony, to name ONE other "good job," just ONE, where they have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year to beg people to accept this wonderful opportunity; where 17-year-old kids with no experience whatsoever are gladly hired, and where, in reference to this good job, you read things like: "To allow more recruits to join, the Army last fall amended its rule that it can sign up no more than 2 percent of recruits who score between 15 and 30 out of 99 on the Army's aptitude test. Now, up to 4 percent of Army recruits can score under 30 on the aptitude test." No, fony, I've not served, but I've taken the ASVAB--and a person who scores 15 wouldn't be capable of handling counter duties at McDonald's. Despite all that evidence, I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt, though, and live with the regret of missing out on that great job.
>>By Just Jon (Tuesday, 18 Jul 2006 03:16)
As some will know, I have read many soldier's biographies and one thing becomes clear; there are two distinct types of soldier. There are those who join up because it is all they can achieve in the jobs market, when confronted with an actual bit of fighting they bitch, moan, and often run away. Then there are those who take great pride in their profession and strive to achieve high standards (a certain Mr. McNab comes to mind). The former, reluctant soldiers, are those most likely to commit war crimes and generally give the military a bad image. It is important to seperate the two attitudes when discussing soldiering. After all, every profession has this problem.
>>By camban (Tuesday, 18 Jul 2006 11:16)
Bartender ? I want to change to Icetea please and sklip the tea ... puf puf ... Camban ? You sly devil, you never told us that you A) can read and B) "many soldier's biographies " ;-) How many cigars do you vanish on an averige book Cam ? Have you read anything lately that you think we all should read and do you have any idea why we ( us little people ) have to wait so bloody long for the next books to come out ?
Oh back to my bucket and pretend I am a flower again .....
>>By Ninjawoman (Tuesday, 18 Jul 2006 15:32)
Well Ninjaperson, I would say an average of 5 cigars per book, but some are thicker than others, cigars and books that is, and people sometimes. You can always find the latest reviews, if interested, by searching by month and year: 07/06 for example. As for what you should read, 'Slave' by Mende Nazer and Damien Lewis should be compulsory for all thinking adults, it will give you plenty to think about. Also by Damien Lewis, 'Bloody Heroes' simply astonishing.
>>By camban (Wednesday, 19 Jul 2006 11:49)
why name another job, I enjoyed every moment of my service and some times it was shit but hey thats part of the experience. I'm not stupid and didn't need to do it, but i wanted to join. And what i mean't was don't knock it unless you have tried it, since you are all down on the negative side of everything to do with the miltary world why spend so long talking, reading, making a website (although humorous) all about the very thing you seem to despise these days. and as for the ASVAB scores and mcdonalds comment somebody with a low score could turn out to be an outstanding soldier. most of the training is taught in a monkey see monkey do way so they could quite easily make a good career out of it. better than selling drugs or whatever other crimes boredom can lead to.
