Hi all,
Cheers for the info on book covers. I've always wondered why there are variations. I can understand (sort of) why AM and CR books can be differerent in text as well as covers overseas but was not sure as to why this applied to their UK paperback books from the same publishers. I'm looking at the cover titles along the left hand side of this screen (while you are reading this) of which I have all the books (except Traitor) but all with different covers.
So Ninja-baby, Lynn etc, we should all make a jolly concerted effort in having some form of get-together. Do you agree ? It may take some time but just think what a few bourbons could do, eh ! ...........liven up the AM discussion that is...............just thought I'd clarify before ol' Jon says anything.
Speaking of Jon, your McFab site was well worth the read. You certainly brought a smile to my "dirty" face.
Regards,
Reg

Oh, PS :
Where's Lisle these days ?
>>By Reginald (Tuesday, 12 Jul 2005 19:11)
Reg, good to see you 'round these parts. Your view of Islamic society and the terrorist minority is sober and enlightening. I'm often guilty of failing to see the grey areas and really researching an issue before forming an opinion, so I appreciate being reminded of the rational approach to the problem of Islamic terrorism. Lynn thanks for the plug re mcfab! New content soon, I'm just so busy at work I've had no time lately.

Just a few of Reg's trivia but genuine military quotations to bring some smiles to people's faces.
1. Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion ! (Norman Schwartzkopf on the 1991 Iraq conflict)
2. I want you to remember that no soldier ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making sure the other side's poor soldier died for his ! (General George Patton)
3. Let him who desires peace prepare for war. Every man and woman yearns for peace and will fight the bloodiest war to attain this ! (Vegetius, 4th Century Rome)
4. Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun ! (Mao Tse-Tung)
5. It takes a 1000 dead soldiers to train a Major General ! (Unknown source)
6. The blighters couldn't hit an elephant at this dist.............. ! (Last words of Union General John Sedgewick, 1864)
7. It's Para this and Para that and Para go away. But it's "thank you Mr Para man" please stay........ ........when the sh*t flies and hits the fan.
(Seen by myself etched in a public toilet in Londonderry after much abuse to our regiment from various republican locals)
Anyway, off for a shower now...........okay, okay..........I know.....shower ! ..........Reg ! .......... can it be ! Well, I can assure you all that I certainly smell, shall we say........ripe ! Or like a warthog with "B.O." as some charming but frightfully cheeky female technician just recently exclaimed.
Brace yourself Reg.................

Become more macho or risk your extinction, men told...
Andy McNab, the former SAS officer (?) and best-selling novelist, said there was already evidence that some men were reconnecting with their masculinity in a bid to make themselves more attractive to women. "I think women want real men in the same way that men want real women,'' he said. "I do notice that men are trying to be more macho in a bid to attract women".
So that's where I've been going wrong, better swap the AK for some cooking utensils and a nice pinny then.

Anyone have any idea how I could get a book that only seems to be published in Australia, saying that the author is Australian but I would have thought it may be on sale in the UK or US at some stage?
It's called 'The Amazing SAS' by Ian Mcphedran - Released 27th July 2005
Any help would be greatly appreciated and anyone who happens to live down under please get in touch.
Thanks :)

No worries, Ninj, we all love DF. Now, here's a question. I've been reading McNab's opinion stuff in The Sun and noticed he doesn't even share his military experience--it might as well be me or AIB writing the column. That would be fine, but, it's not like his writing in and of itself is column-worthy. He tends to write single-sentence paragraphs. Like this. It makes one wonder about ghost writers, but that's a whole different issue. What I'm saying is, I find it weird that when Chris Ryan or Andy McNab write a column, they contribute absolutely nothing that any reporter couldn't. If I want to listen to a (basically) uneducated military dude spout off, I'd appreciate hearing real insight we couldn't get anywhere else, like, why certain explosives are more effective than others, or how to tie a prusik knot. Instead, we get typical right-wing crap that any idiot could write--let's kill all the terrorists, terrorists are bad, SAS can save the day, and by the way let's kill all the terrorists. Andy has written two decent columns, one about wine-tasting and the other about defeating a burglar. Ryan, as far as I know, shoots up pure testosterone and then hits the word processor, his only editor being Manhood itself. Makes sense, actually--his books are the same way. I'm not sure giving these guys newspaper columns is such a great idea. Already, we're told that if you haven't been in the military, you have no right to an opinion on any wars your country might be engaged in. That such an idea excludes most of the populace from any democratic choice bothers no true patriots, of course, and that's not my point anyway. What pisses me off is that people like McNab and Ryan are taking column inches away from real writers, and as I said, all they're doing is regurgitating Sky News and whatever jingoistic crap they feel will sell at the moment. Crying shame. I want to be told how to take down a bridge, Andy--I don't give a rat's ass what your opinion on current events is. Sorry, just had to vent about that.
>>By Just Jon (Friday, 5 Aug 2005 22:15)
OOPS, forgot--a clarification: I DO want McNab's opinion on stuff he actually knows more about than most CNN anchors do. I also like it when he writes stuff like his wine-tasting story, which was hilarious. Indeed, I love his novels and am one of his biggest fans. His latest columms suck, though, and so do Chris Ryan's. Just wanted to clarify that point.
