LOL Ortie ! If I had been drinking cola I would have spoiled it on the keyboard. I'm eating a pear, wanna know what chewed pear does to a computer screen?

>>By Lynn   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 16:08)

Probably a whole lot chunkier, though probably less damaging than a spray of lukewarm Coke into your keyboard.... ;)

While I'm on a roll here......

"AIRPLANE!",

Tower : Flight 2-0-9er, you're cleared for take off.
Oever : Roger!
Murdock : Huh?
Tower : L.A. departure frequency 1-2-3 point 9er.
Oever : Roger!
Murdock : Huh?
: Re-quest Vector, over!
Oever : What?
Tower : 2-0-9er clear for vector 2-3-4.
Murdock : We have clearance Clarence.
Oever : Roger, Roger. What's our Vector Victor?
Tower : Tower's radio clearance, over!
Oever : That's Clarence Oever! Oever.
Tower : Roger.
Murdock : Huh?
Tower : Roger, over.
Murdock : Huh?
Oever : Huh?

"AIRPLANE 2: The Sequel":

Man: "Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet your Captain. Captain Over."
Clarence: "Gentlemen, welcome aboard."
Man: "Captain, your navigator Mr Unger and your first officer Mr Dunn." (the handshaking begins)
Clarence: "Unger."
Unger: "Over."
Dunn: "Over."
Clarence: "Dunn! Gentlemen, let's get to work."
Dunn: "Unger, didn't you serve under Over in the Airforce?"
Unger: "Ah, not directly. Technically Dunn was under Over and I was under Dunn."
Dunn: "Yep."
Unger: "So Dunn, you were under Over and over Unger."
Dunn: "Yep!"
Clarence: "Ah that's right. Dunn was over Unger and I was over Dunn."
Unger: "So you see both Dunn and I were under Over even though I was under Dunn."
Clarence: "Dunn was over Unger and I was over Dunn!"

Hello any callsign...

Does anybody know what the heck happened to the "Relax With A Book" website -- the one with the AM interviews about Firewall and Liberation Day?!? The interviews that you couldn't download or record to save in personal files!?!

To paraphrase AM from B20: [It] was gone, fucking gone..." when I went there just now! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

You know what I think, all about McNab is disappearing on the Net till we are the only ones left - and that's fine cause our 121 pages seem to cover his whole life, career and more :o)
(don't ask about the more, can't tell you or I'll di

Evening all!! I've had a very lazy day and it's been bloody marvellous!

Tell me more... am-I-binned...re Nick Stone...

Bethan - I think Eddie has definately been on the slim-fast... in hand with a sunbed and a tightly fitting trendy tshirt....my word... He's not looking bad for a 50 year old!

Anyone read Last Light? What do you think?

Tabby

>>By TabariGoddess   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 17:58)

Hi again, Tabby...
Having read B20 and IA, you've already got a handle on NS, and as you read the NS stories, their bio relevance will become clear... and therein lies the keyStone (vbw!). That said, yes, several of us have read Last Light. Do try, however, to get back your borrowed (nicked?) books first -- cuz (broken record that I am) LL will be best appreciated if read in sequence... :o)

>>By am-i-binned   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 19:03)

hey guys, not much to report just wondering what book peeps are on?

thanks

cavey

>>By cavemole   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 20:39)

Forgive me guys if I'm repeatitive, but I truely don't remember if I've said this before, 'cause I can't find my previous "Gnooks' Drafts"...
I think I've an idea of Mr Andy's favourite quote's origin "If the sh*t hits the fan...", it's from the film

Airplane!
:))
Actually I wanted to say it months ago after buying the DVD, but, er forgotten, oops!

Hello TabariGoddess -Tabby; talking about "Last Light", this is my last book I've read and in my opinion he went in an escalation of bitterness (with an incredible great humour though!). The tip of sour feeling shines in "Last Light", not because it's a bad story, at all, I think (like many here!) that all his books are masterpieces, but because the story as a whole evolves in a certain direction; Murphy's Law is a constant in His books...

Follow Am-I-Binned's advice, that is all of ours too: if you can, read them in their correct order, you'll love them even more! ;)

>>By Deusrexmachina   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 20:44)

The phrase "when the shit hits the fan" must've originated long before "Airplane!" though.
Why? Because in the movie, it's literally a piece of s**t hitting a fan.

Ergo, that couldn't be perceived as funny unless you catch onto the reference to the already existing phrase.

Yours sincerly

ortlieb the SmartAss

>>By ortlieb   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 22:51)

Thanks for the advice all... will read in order! Looking forward to getting stuck in.

>>By TabariGoddess   (Tuesday, 6 Jan 2004 23:38)

Your absolutely right, Orty - Murphy's Law is Nick's CONSTANT companion. This is most evident in Firewall, where absolutely nothing outside of Nick's control goes right. This, to me, is one of the stregnths of McNab's storytelling. This is REALITY. Not like some other thriller authors, where the Almighty so clearly favors the good guys.

As for the "poop" (as my now-six-year-old would say) hitting the fan, this has been a common Yank expression for as long as I can remember. Let that mental image soak in for a moment - when it hits the moving fan blades - that's one heck of a mess!

Bought my wife a party-size reel of dental floss this weekend. We'll see how it works out...

A Case Study in OC-R-D (Obsessive Compulsive Research Disorder)... :o\

"When the shit hits the fan"

Meaning: An uproar caused when a previously secret situation becomes publicly known
Origin: Originated in the USA in the 1930s

And as we always seem to hear a song coming on..

What you gonna do when shit hits the fan?
Are you gonna stand and fight like a man?
Will you be as hard as you say you are?
Or you gonna run and go get your bodyguard?

(from "Shit Hits The Fan" Obie Trice feat. Dr. Dre, Eminem)

Does Andy McNab ever appear at book signings?

>>By TabariGoddess   (Wednesday, 7 Jan 2004 10:46)

Sure !! Now the trick is to find out where :o)

Most books are signed at the publishers house(s) for all we know, who distribute them to bookstores

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 7 Jan 2004 11:40)

ortlieb the SmartAss...keep 'em coming! Ooops...I'm in trouble...this is a laboratory, not a playground...

Going back a page (coz I've seen it for myself now...)
I see what you guys mean 'bout the Eddie Stone make-over. I'm thinking that when they had that break in the transmission schedule of SAS Survival Secrets, Eddie went off to The Salon and had the colonic and spray tan that I thought Chris Ryan had had...what a nightmare that was...
I'm gonna scan the TV schedules to see when we'll see Eddie on What Not To Wear...

I know most of you non-Brits are desperate to know what lovely Mac with the moustache looks like so here you are. No idea who the other two are.

Rexyboy : how about AM's quote : "Flapping big time" now where does that come from, and with all the luck NS recently had he'll sure be flapping for a long time.
Andyway whilst you're near Venice, why don't you pop there and go and see AL Pacino and Jeremy Irons, running the movie " The Merchant of Venice". They should be there 'till the 11 of january. Just take a gondel and you can see them shooting the movie.

Tabby : Hi there, about LL , it's on my 3 AM prefered book list (in order they'd be DW, C4, LL, RC, FW, and LD haven't read that one yet). But yes you should read them all in order, I didn't read LD 'cause I've read a lot of bad reviews about it, so I started reading other SF books instead.
As for the book signings, I know he does them but you have to get an invitation, 'cause he does them privately ('cause of the death-threats he sometimes gets, last one was 14 months ago, I read that somewhere). Andyway have a good reading.

AIB : still can't open the relaxwithabook thingy, darn it!! Lynn could be right there could be some conspiracy that they're taking all info about AM away from the net, maybe it's one of the BABES terrorist acts going on,and maybe it's with the help of CR.....we other members from F-troop should investigate this.

>>By borisette   (Wednesday, 7 Jan 2004 14:40)

Bethan : blast and double blast, stumbled some days ago in another Mac pic where he meets one of the iranian embassy hostages,, it's a pic where they shake hands, ..... and naturally can't find the damn pic anymore, ...tipicall!

Now a SAS What Not to Wear Special - I'd pay good money to read the script of that Bikergirl/BABES ;-)

Bethan, that's Tom and Robin, two of the other chaps that went into the embassy with Mac as part of the Pagoda troop. Frank Collins was up on the roof.

Have you read Baptism of Fire, then?

News Flash!

Well, not really a "flash" since it's about a week ago now...

The Los Angeles Times had a brief article about Gnod/MG which I can send via flork if you're interested. For some strange reason tho, the article did not carry any mention whatsoever of AM, this board, or F Troop... wonder why?

Uh-oh! De de de de De de de de... ;o)
