Is there a reason why the 'controversial' newsletter wasn't archived?

>>By Lynn   (Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:52)

While you're waiting for the latest Falconer, you might try Bloody Heroes by Damien Lewis. Just the thing for those interested in true life sbs action.

Bethan.

Good call Beth, sounds excellent, lots of info on his web site about background issues, seems to give the real names of those involved too. It was a real international effort with both SAS and SBS, and Delta, SEALs, Aussie and NZ SAS, Dutch and other SF too. Trouble is, it doesn't seem to have been published yet though there are reviews by some of those involved.

An undercover agent found this:

Time Warner have bought Duncan Falconer's next three Stratton novels for a good six-figure sum determined to make him a top ten bestseller. The first three books in the series have been favourably compared to Chris Ryan and Andy McNab.

But a little (?) birdie whispered in my ear .. "good things are near .. very near ... "

Next book "The Protector" (formaly known as 'Rendezvous in Fallujah' - God bless that decision ;-)
Coming out in March 2007

And then "Undersea Prison" coming out March 2008
Synopsis:
A top security prison below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico more secure than Guantanamo Bay or Alcatraz and far from prying eyes has some disturbing secrets. The CIA are using it as an interrogation centre, the corrupt warden wants to destroy it, the FBI are conducting operations to expose them both, the White House has a spy inside and wants to close it down any way it can and an insane convict wants to scuttle it in order to escape. On top of all of that, a secret micro-document belonging to British Military Intelligence embarrassingly ends up in the hands of a Taliban terrorist incarcerated within the prison and Stratton, SBS maritime Special Forces operative, is assigned to get it back before anyone finds out. Typically, this Falconer story kicks off at a thousand miles an hour and does not slow down until beyond the end.

There we have Stratton back!
All good things to look forward too :-))

>>By Lynn   (Saturday, 22 Jul 2006 00:42)

Formaly = formerly * rolls eyes *

>>By Lynn   (Saturday, 22 Jul 2006 00:44)

So we know two things for sure .. A) Stratton stays alive for the next two books and B) we have a s**t long wait ahead of us .. * sigh *

Thanks L

>>By Ninjawoman   (Saturday, 22 Jul 2006 21:09)

Stratton is not in the next book (The Protector), is he?

But sure he should at least make it through Undersea Prison.
For that I'll dedicate next song to Stratton, it would make a good title song for The Movie, if ever ;-)

Cruel Man (Intwine)

~Cause I’m a cruel man I’ll take it all away,
And I’m a king I’ll make you pay,
And I’m a cruel man I’ll take it all the way,
And I’m a king I’m here to stay~

If not, it's still a good song ;-)

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 23 Jul 2006 19:10)

Might just as well promote them even better :-)
http://www.fabchannel.com/intwine

Track 8 (but the rest it good too)

>>By Lynn   (Sunday, 23 Jul 2006 19:20)

Stratton doesn't appear to be in the next book Lynn, you are right on that.

*p.s. any surgestions, flork me ??

>>By Ninjawoman   (Wednesday, 26 Jul 2006 14:28)

A book suggestion for you, 'Highway to Hell' by John Geddes ex SAS and now a Private Military Contractor just like DF. Not quite finished it yet but it is a great read, just like an extended version of DF's Newsletters.

>>By camban   (Friday, 28 Jul 2006 15:08)

>>By Ninjawoman   (Wednesday, 16 Aug 2006 15:09)

As usual it's interesting to get a report from other than the media and DF writes it well.

Having followed (most of) the Jack discussion elswhere on this site I couldn't help wondering about: "how little news gets out of Iraq about the sometimes amazing battles that take place between private security companies cruising Iraq and insurgents"

If that doesn't make sense, it's not worth explaining ;-)

The Lownie synopsis for The Protector is just a tiny bit different from the one on DF's site and Amazon. I'll copy it here in anyone's interested:

Three men: a young Iraqi, a former British soldier, an American journalist, converge in Baghdad a year after the fall of Saddam Hussein and after experiencing very different and personal life changing events. The three end up together on the road to Fallujah one dark and dangerous night while at the same time the might of the US military encircles the town as they prepare to rip it apart. But neither man can turn back or delay further. Each believes the others are taking part in a single purpous to secure the release of an American hostage sentenced to death by ruthless insurgents. But in truth all have very different and secret reasons for going into the besieged town. Greed, ambition and guilt distinguish the forces driving each man towards his desire despite knowing he might never return.

Lownie doesn't believe in 'love stories' apparently ?? ;-)

>>By Lynn   (Wednesday, 16 Aug 2006 17:44)

Not being a prick--I really respect DF--but, when a battle happens and loads of young people end up dead, "amazing" isn't the first word that comes to my mind. Also, the PMC's asked to be there--they're trying to make a buck off of a conflict, so I really can't find it in my heart to feel sorry for them when they die. I wish DF would stick to writing and not get himself killed protecting corporate interests.
