Catcher is great, Holden's rejection of human banality is something I really respect. Although I enjoyed CITR, I must say Franny and Zooey never gets enough credit! I think this is the real master piece in Sallinger's work. He is able to capture that vague feeling of dispair that tends to make one's world crumble. Really a lovely book. Anyone read 9 stories? any good?

'For Esme With Love and Squalor' .....an intriguing story. What does the watch symbolise? But more importantly WHO does it symbolise?

CITR is agreat novel..
but how many do really get the meaning of the efirst and the last chapter of the novel -- that Holden is discussing his problems with a psychoanalyst? in other words he is crazy, or mad!

I love Esme, Teddy is not bad as well. I think "Catcher" is a bit raw. 9 stories is far better. So is Franny and Zooey. Well, maybe it is just less angsty.

now that JD has passed-on the *big buzz* is that his daughter or ex-wife will now sell the rights to "Catcher In The Rye" to be made into a screenplay & movie.
Well then .... just WHO will portray Holden in his great crusade against phoniness ???????
