Vernor Vinge

He is right. Believe it or not, tommorrow there is no more ageing ,no more death, no more poverty, no more boredom, no more drudgery. There is something new under the sun.Life will become worth living!Stones will be turned into bread and base metals will be turned into gold.

Well... Actually, Vernor Vinge is a major proponent of the technological singularity. What he's saying is things could be much better, but they could also be much much worse than humans can possibly imagine.

Vinge is a master science fiction writer, he has won the Hugo twice. And has won the Nebula for best short story 3 times.

Vinge is a mathematician, he taught math at San Diego State University. You can read some of his writings at his web page on the San Diego site. (
