Toole

insane, read it, for certain. get a glimpse of nawlins in the seventies, the rot and the disfunction and the ah, beauty of the bayou through the eyes of a bonafide nut. great characters, parties, subtle humor, the word 'pyloric' more than you care to read, and i won't comment more on the ending but to say that it will not be a disappointment.

Are you kidding!!!!!!! Love this book...whata gas. A friend and I howled reading passages to each other over the phone...especially the protagonist's concerns about his "valve."

Toole killed himself over the rejection of this book. His mother and a professor got this thing in print posthumously. What a great effort.

Toole was a genius. Did you read Neon Bible? That book is very interesting as well. I was amzed by it, actually. Toole wrote it when he was 16. He would have been a giant today.

I always thought Toole modeled the main character a bit after himself...I have no proof in any way...know nothing of him other than the book and anecdotes I have read about him....maybe my way of romaticising the glorious madness of this young man.
