sven hassel is an outstanding author whether his claims of serving in a german penal regiment are true or not.His first book "legion of the damned" is supposedly the story of his own experiences on the russian front during the second world war. The books that followed legion of the damned are fictional spin offs. All of his books are brilliant.They manage to be funny, sad, horrific and informative at the same time.A must for anyone who enjoys a good war story.
