literary terms found in the sweet hereafter

I think that Russell Banks really captured the point of view of a 14 year old boy in the book Rule of The Bone. I have always had a hard time reading long books but Rule of the Bone captured me and I couldn't put it down, if you haven't read Rule of the Bone yet, urge you to.

Even though I have only had the opportunity to read "The Sweet Hereafter" and "Affliction", I already have a strong opinion about the high level of talent Mr. Banks brings to his work. He certainly has the ability to make the reader's job an effortless task. Contrary to the rule of a good book ruined on it's way to the screen, both of these novels have been well served in their translation to film. I would recommend either as a good primer prior to reading.

How would you translate that angst Chappie exhibits with glances and mutterings under the breath onto celluloid? The film maker cannot be the standard hollywood canned meat left in the sun all damn afternoon. I would love to see Rule of the Bone brought to the screen by Mr. Jim Jarmusch. He could take those moments between Iman and Bone and make people run to the bookshelf for another read.
On the same vine. I was wondering if anyone else thought that its easy to write from the point of view of a child to shield you from the work of having to include the multitudes of angles adults impose on simple things to fuck them up for themselves? Mind you, Bone did a pretty good job of doing just that himself. All in all its a great read and the next step in this emerged evolution is DBC Pierre's Vernon God Little. Not so far into Vernon's head but where Banks stumbles Pierre is superb. Rich descriptors hold your focus like horse blinders that also allow you time for inflection and proper digestion. (who really chews 40 times on each side of thier mouths anyway?)
