Rumer Godden was an English author born in 1907 who wrote factual and fiction books numbering sixty volumes in all.
I recall three of her works being made into movies back in the day, these were Black Narcissus, The Greengage Summer and In This House of Brede...by far my favourite of her books and I especially enjoyed the film as much, which is not always the case!
However, several particular titles which she wrote for children are magical stories continuing to please young readers, namely my youngest seven year old granddaughter who after reading a Christmas tale entitled ‘The Story of Holly and Ivy’ said in her quaint way ‘I think this author is one of my favourites, the stories cheer me up!’ We all retain something of the child within us and this particular volume still has the ability to delight me also.
