Highly recommend "Revolutionary Road" (the quintessential marriage novel) and the classic "Eleven Kinds of Loneliness" a collection of short stories that will remind you of an American "Dubliners". Another neglected American master. Elaine's writer father in the Seinfeld episode was patterned on him, for you pop culture junkies. The Bailey biography "A Tragic Honesty" is very good also.

I love Revolutionary Road - it's very subtle in dealing emotions, not like any other murky romance novel.
