what is the precipitating event in The Bridge Over The River Kwai.

I think The Bridge on the River Kwai is one of the most boring books I've ever read. It was a struggle to get through the whole thing. Trying to find information about it online is even worse because it's all about the damn movie and there's no real information on the book itself.

Well I have to read this book for school and im on page 15 and cant stand to read anymore!! Why does he have to make me fall asleep?? Seriously!
