His book "What's So Amazing About Grace?" is totally awesome. My sunday school class is going through it now and there is good discussion. I would recommend it for adult sunday school classes of all ages.

I am just about finishing his Book ' Soul Survivor'. I am still thinking about it. He makes me want to read about all of the people he writes about and tjeir books. He also makes me want to write about my experiences. And he makes me believe in God's eternal prescence beside and in each of us.

I just started reading "The Jesus I never knew" and I am bothered my an example he uses of a "courageous young woman" in a church of his that stood up to discuss a sin everyone was aware of, her before marriage sex and pregnancy. He says everyone was aware of it because they had seen her hyperactive and illegitimate son running up and down the ailes of the church. The point was that although "her sin was no worse than anybody elses" it was obvious to everyone where some sins, I suppose, can remain hidden from social view. He was making a point about the young virgin Mary and her pregnancy being obvious. But I have a problem with calling a child illegimate because it is conceived out of wedlock. And I have a problem with anyone calling that a sin. That is a judgment. And the young lawyer in question who was "courageous" enough to go to church and raise her son....yes, that is courageous because she could be many other places where people do not think of sex before marriage or having a child alone is "sinful" or use the word "illegitimate" without thinking what stupid, judgmental language that is. I plan to read the book in it's entirety because I am looking for a better picture of the man Jesus was. But any human writing about Jesus Christ needs to heed carefulness in even the suggestion of judgment on another human being.

First I would like to respond to the letter from Mary who was offended by the term illegitimate. I have read the book "The Jesus I Never Knew" six times and each time I read that particular passage I got the point that Philip was trying to make and not a feeling that he was being judgmental in any way. You will not find a better picture of Jesus than the one Philip delivers. Of course if words like "illegitimate" offend certain people then I guess the word "ignorant" might as well. Read on Mary. Perhaps if you really take it to heart you might find a better picture of yourself.

Keep up the good work Mr. Yancey,
God bless,
David Lott

I have read all of Philip Yancy's books and each one is as good as the last. He writes in such a way that gets you thinking and some of his work can, quite literally, move one to tears. I am reading "Where is God when it hurts?" and I have to say this ranks as one of the best pieces of Christian literature ever composed. He ranks along side other great theologian writers such as C.S Lewis. Philip, keep up the good work!!

His book "The Jesus I never knew" is amazing. It has not only changed my way of thinking of Christian life but has also helped to finally decide to give the rest of my life for His ministry.

I have read two books by Mr. Yancy and I think they are wonderful. His insights may step on a few toes, but they are straightforward and to the point about Christians and how they should live their lives for Christ. He gives us new ways to look at how we can live in a modern world and still strive for holiness. I thank God for giving us this author who can spead his word that way it was meant to be delivered.
