I love the Merrily Watkins books. I am an atheist, yet Rickman's characterizations are so real that I do understand where Merrily is coming from. Her dilemmas and soul-searching ring true. And I adore Jane, of course. She is a delight. She goes through adolescence so very realistically. Rickman writes a woman's POV quite well, and that of a teen aged girl no less! I simply love all the characters and the relationships between them. The folklore he incorporates is fascinating. And the paranormal aspect is always there. I think this is my favorite series of all time.
I still have yet to read any of his earlier works, but they are like hidden cake in the fridge; treats for later!
