I am surprised there are no discussions about Peter Beagle here. I am about to finish "The Last Unicorn" and I must say it is one of the most beautiful fantasy books I have read.

I have seen the movie when I was about 6 and seen it a couple of times... I watched it again as an adult and still loved it. Peter Beagle's work, though simple in prose is complex in content. It is hauntingly beautiful. I just love, love, love the book it is better than the movie... I wish I have read the book before seeing the animated movie.

The Last Unicorn is a very nice novel. I read it a couple of years ago, and hadn't even heard of the movie at that point, which worked in my favour, all things considered.

My favourite Beagle book, however, is Tamsin. For a guy of his age and generation, he does a remarkably good job at constructing a believable 13 year teenage character going through alienation doldrums.

After finishing The Last Unicorn, I am craving for more books by Beagle. It's sad it's quite scarce in my country.

I fell in love with the movie version of Peter S. Beagle when I was a kid, and fell even more in love with his books when I finally got my hands on them. I love The Last Unicorn (of course) but was taken aback by Folk of the Air, and his short stories collections. I also loved his first book, A Fine and Private Place. I really enjoyed reading Tamsin and really appreciated how well he could get into his character's mindset, but I felt it didn't have a lot of the powerful imagery and storytelling his other books had.
