Do you know if Colin can be used as a nickname for Michael?

I am asking this because I was reading True Blue at lunchtime, and at page 98, there are only 2 persons in the room, Michael and Sixtus.
Well, at some point, Sixtus says "Colin" and then Colin answers...

Now, I am all confuzzled!

Recently read her 'Dreamcountry'. Really a beautiful story and very touching. It's the only book i know of Luanne. But i guess her other works are are at least as good and emotional as this one. I will read other works pretty soon, definitely.
