Part of the humour of South Park IS that it's offensive though.

Tchock, not to be confrontational, this is a serious question ok? You like Renegades don't you? I know it's covers, but Zack obviously admires those artists he's covering. 'They kept coming just like I figured, so I stepped back and started spraying niggers.' 'Didn't have to blast him but I did anyway, hahaha.'
It doesn't bother you?
>>By Flagg (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 16:37)
I've only heard Renegades once - my brother took the album before I could listen to it again. Zach might have admired the artists whose songs he was covering: but I'm not Zach.

What is South Park about? I've heard it mentioned, yet I know NOTHING about it.
>>By lv2read (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 19:19)
Swearing generally is mostly unimaginative. A space-filler, something to say when you can't be imaginative enough to say anything different.
>>By nonyeb (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 19:50)
South Park is a cartoon by Trey Parker & Matt Stone - it's about four kids & random events/things that happen in their town of South Park - mainly caused by Cartman. It's really funny - but can be a TAD offensive at times (bit of an understatement). Not too sure it would be your cup of tea mind..... but it's still worth a watch just to see either way.
>>By Tchock (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 19:55)
It's indiscriminately offensive. Black, white, gay, straight, liberal, conservative, everyone gets made fun of.
Swearing generally in talk nonyeb, or in art? I think in both, it has its place.
Odd, I read a short story today that was set about forty years ago and a child's mother told him never, ever to say the word 'fuck' as it's the worst thing anyone can say. And it describes how after that he would whisper it on his own. I remember doing something similar. I had forgotten. So I guess I didn't always have this attitude.
>>By Flagg (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 20:34)
Oh, but you admire Zack, is what I meant. I asked because some of the lyrics on that album bother me.
>>By Flagg (Sunday, 7 Jan 2007 22:36)
You know, one reason I so enjoy pissing people off is that the power of mere words amazes me. This is a great discussion! With rap, you have to look at the reasons people don't like it. I don't like it because I have a modicum of musical talent and I realize that downloading some software and talking about my dick over the supplied or stolen beats and music isn't "art" in any sense of the word. I could just as reasonably paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa and claim to be a great artist, expecting everyone to include the original painting in their assessment of my addition. That the lyrics are mostly idiotic and profane only makes me hate it more. L2R is right about blacks, at least in America. No one likes to talk about this, and it's great that we're willing to. Where I am, even very educated white people call blacks "niggers" when they know they won't be overheard. While I don't generally call them that, it seems to me blacks need to be the ones making the term verboten, not popularizing it. It's like gays who call themselves "faggots" but then get offended if you use the same term. Again, as L2R said--what's good for the gay, black goose is good for the white, straight gander.

Well I've said everything I can on the subject so I'll leave it alone now.
>>By Flagg (Monday, 8 Jan 2007 11:48)
That is, you made good points there, you all did. But I'm not about to throw my Kanye West album out the window and you lot aren't about to go and buy one, so maybe we should move on.
>>By Flagg (Monday, 8 Jan 2007 13:04)
I'll admit that listening to Kanye West ain't bad at a party.

So Saddam was killed....and the executioners said unkind things to him. And, who cares??
>>By lv2read (Thursday, 11 Jan 2007 02:50)
Well no one anymore as it happened more than a week ago.
>>By Flagg (Friday, 12 Jan 2007 19:33)
It may have been a week, but has everyone forgotten his regime's victims?
>>By lv2read (Tuesday, 16 Jan 2007 03:33)
We forgot his regime's victims a week after he was removed from power.

Deaf Ear, Sarcoidiot, Maniac....others.....??? Ignore Iran? Al Quaida is still no threat? Big bad Americans? Yea, right!! Greenfyre, have you moderated your positions (if you call them that) yet?
What role do you think that former Baathists play in the insurgency? And, Greenfyre, weren't the favored Bath Party cronies of Saddam the bad guys.....less than 1-1/2 years ago? Are they the good guys now because they oppose the American presence AND constitutional democracy?
A valid question does remain i.e. the Iraqi problems aside...should we sacrifice American lives for THEM? Are they worth it?

BIAM, Are the insurgents still the innocent ones? Or are they just bad losers in a majority rule democratic electrion? And, do you still applaud the Brokeback Mountain theme? Greenfyre, Where are you without the Gang of Four? Who is your pick, Obama or Clinton? And if it is either, I thank you for handing the election to the Republicans!!

Jack is over. Let it die.
>>By Flagg (Friday, 16 Mar 2007 17:02)
Well I dunno, I thought this, seeing it was in a literature discussion site would be about, you know, literature. I actually thought it was about an author called Jack. But no, it's 37 pages of - other stuff. Maybe I missed the literary part.............
>>By BarbaraH (Saturday, 17 Mar 2007 09:00)
It's an argument about politics that began on the Brokeback Mountain board, and moved here because no one knew who Jack was and this board was empty.
>>By Flagg (Saturday, 17 Mar 2007 11:33)
BarbaraH it's 37 pages of - other stuff. Maybe I missed the literary part..>>>
I think that your point is something else. I believe that you are a liberal and (that) you are unwilling to put your views to the test. If 'Jack' really doesn't exist, and that none of us created Jack, why would you concern yourself with our using this tiny piece of cyberspace to exchange viewpoints?

Pfftt! Well, obviously, You Don't Know Jack! ;oP
YDKJ is a series of (computer) games "where high culture and pop culture collide" combining trivia with comedy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Don't_Know_Jack

Hi Jack.

Sarcoidiot, Maniac, Tchock, Green something or other, and a couple of others have given up the discussion---and if you read their questionable responses founf on pages 25-35, you'd know why.
A call to responsible adults of European and non-European backgrounds to add to and participate in this discourse.

Sarcoidiot, Maniac, Green whatever.....your girls aren't up to the task....pretty lame!!! Does mg have any guidelines about misidentifying your country of origin?
>>By lv2read (Friday, 6 Apr 2007 10:26)
Hi Jeff (and others).
Welcome to the board. You might find it vaguely amusing to pull lv2bs' rather laughable "views" apart (altho it is only really a challenge to an educated logical thinkers endurance rather than their intellect) I'm afraid I grew bored of it a while back (post of Thursday, 7 Dec 2006 is somewhat indicative of the level of patience required). Enjoy.... ;)
>>By planet ear (Saturday, 7 Apr 2007 19:13)
Deaf Ear, I suffered every single post of yours along with the Gang of Four, "I told you so's." Ignorant people brand others as ignorantm, uneducated and on and on. I suggest that YOU return to you previous posts for Comic Relief. Sir (as far as I know), you are not genuine!
>>By lv2read (Saturday, 7 Apr 2007 22:29)
Come one, come all---don't allpw the amti Americdan bigot to sour you on freedom of expression. I promise that I'll keep him in check. I am the Mac truck closing on his heels.
