well, i am presently studying this text for a course and it is quite interesting. i think that Sábato's El Tunel is a classic example of the concepts of exixtentialism. i have read this book before and never considered the theme of existentialism since that was not the purpose of the course bbut now i am fuuly knowledgeable on the topic, thanks to eltunel and sabato.
Just hope i pass the exam.
bye.

Ernesto Sabato is indeed one of the greatest authors of the twentieth century and has indeed contributed a lot to our understanding of the nature of man himself. In fact, I am examining two of his major works for my thesis : El Tunel and Sobre Heroes y Tumbas. If you would like info on any you can e mail me at dameia 20@yahoo.com. He is truly an enigma and I adore his books not solely for the nature of the writing, but for his contribution to our understanding of mankind.

This book was so pothetic. Castel is like weird and has no life. He just follows María desperately. And María, she's a player, it's pretty cool how a woman has a lot of guys because each one of them has that special ideal "thing" a girl wants. I t hink I'm gonna be like her, pero que no me maten como a un perro. (and I have a project due thursday and it's worth 400 points, thank you Mr. Rojas {but your still cool}) (I'm one of the A student's in Mr. Rojas' and I'm gonna get an A in the Project)

His job "The Tunnel" as well as "The Family of Pacual Duarte" are my favorites because they help analyse the human behavior. Even when Juan Pablo and Pascual Duarte are assassins I would not say they are guilty, since I feel that this is me, and nobody would condem himself. I think every body would find a mirror of himself in Castel. It reminds me the philosophic thought that there is not evil innate in the human being, instead he is just a result of the environment sourrounding him. Also the phisyc's and Chemistry's principle that there is a reaction with same power and different way in front of any action.

the most human man that god left on this earth. but he is so different from us . why because he found out a thing that we will never understand. he found out the truth about us. we all know why we are mean and why we are superficial.but we keep on asking why. we never found a good answer. HE did. i hope that one day another man like him will be born althoughthe chances are minimum. i love what this man has done to my life

I have read El tunel over and over again since finding it a few years ago, and I love it. It is such a wonderful display of the blending of the lines between true love, obsession, and desperation. The way that one's own senses, no matter how well they know themselves, can mislead them. He lets us get in touch with the dark side of us all through this character. He lets us see that this can happen to anyone, that no one is immune to going too far. And, I love the way he begins the book, by not creating a distinction between the author and the character which makes you believe the story is true, drawing the reader into the drama as if it is actually happening to someone they know or even themselves. Brilliant!!!
