Donald Knuth

Forum

Anybody know if "The Knuth" is related to Theodore Henry Knuth (my grandfather) who was probably born in the late 1800s? My grandfater lived in Wisconsin Rapids, WI(where my father, Hans Roderic Knuth, was born in 1912 ?). My grandfater later moved to Appleton, WI, then fianally to Camus, WA. My father had an IQ in the genius range, and so does my daughter. (Mine isn't, unfortunately!)
I was often teased as a child because of my last name. (Our family was the only Knuth listed in the Portland, OR phone book.) If the brillant Donald Knuth was my relative it'd make up for the teasing a bit.
After reading Donald Knuth's homepage I see that he has my father's family's arogance and also their sense of humor. Also Donald's father and my grandfather have the same middle names (Henry). Could we be related?
If you know any info on Donald Knuth's family, would you email me. PLEASE!

I don't have any information about Donald Knuth's family. I'm Rebecca Knuth's son and I've never met a Knuth
I wasn't related to. As far as I know my Knuths came from Germany to Illinois in the late 1800s. Leo Knuth,
William Knuth, etc.

Donald Knuth does seem to be an interesting guy. When I was in college a few years ago I was a computer
science major and that was the only context where I never had to spell my last name.

There are Knuth's out there though. There is actually a Knuth in the town I live in that I have never met. And this
is a small town (Juneau, Alaska).

Do you pronounce the K sound in Knuth? I do, like Kuh-nuth.

I am married to Joshua Knuth (son of Paul Knuth, grandson of Orlin Knuth) who is from Reed City, Michigan (North of Grand Rapids, MI). I was jsut doing a search to see if there were any famous Knuth's! We pronounce the hard "K" (kuh-nuth).
