I'm currently reading Eragon, and I can't put it down! It's an excellent book. I can't believe it was written by a teenager..

I loved the book Eragon it is a great book. It is hard to believe a teenager. I can't wait to read the next one!

>>By BloodRayne   (Friday, 16 Apr 2004 07:30)

I've now finished the book. Would anyone like to really open this page for discussion? I'm dying to talk to someone about it...

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Monday, 19 Apr 2004 20:17)

I only read the book once and that was awhile ago. but i'm going to buy it(i got it from the library before but now there is a long waiting list) and reread it in a about a week. i would like to discuss it then(because there was some things i didn't understand completely). i would like to discuss the book now but i'm a bit fuzzy on the details because i've read about 30 books since i've read eragon.
though one thing that i didn't really like was how the book just ended. but i supose that was to make you want to find out what happens.i know i do.

>>By Cimorene   (Wednesday, 21 Apr 2004 08:19)

by the way i'm also BloodRayne.

>>By Cimorene   (Wednesday, 21 Apr 2004 08:31)

Great! Let me know when you've read it again. But I warn you, I might be a little fuzzy on the details myself...

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Saturday, 24 Apr 2004 02:31)

i just got the book yesterday so i should be finished in a day or two, talk to you then.

>>By BloodRayne   (Sunday, 25 Apr 2004 08:29)

one thing that i found interesting was the size/wieght of the dragon's egg(witch i never guessed was a dragon's egg). i've read alot of books and i've never heard of one like that so that's why i never guessed it was a dragon's egg. i thought it was just a magic stone or something.

>>By BloodRayne   (Thursday, 29 Apr 2004 02:15)

I was kind of surprised about that too.

Which girl do you think he'll end up with? Ayra or the daughter of Ajihad (you know there'll be more about her in the next books...)?

Did you know that they're making a movie of Eragon? I read it in a newsletter from Paolini's website: www.alagaesia.com

By the way, I'm fairy of shalot. this is my other sn.

>>By Farie Child   (Saturday, 1 May 2004 02:21)

I didn't know about the movie (i havn't been on www.alagaesia.com for a while). I think a movie would be cool, as long a it has a large budget(so there's go special effects).
As for witch girl Eragon will end up with i'm not sure, i'm at a split decision.

I think Brom is Eragon's father. He too, was a dragonrider, and isn't it a little too coincidental that he should live in the town right next to Eragon's home for 15 years (Eragon is 15 at the beginning of the book)? i think he went there to keep an eye on him.

Is Argetlam Eragon's special name that all dragonriders receive? I wasn't sure about that...

I think the twins are the traitors that were mentioned in Eragon's fortune-telling. Do you think so? I don't think it will be Roran, that would be too obvious.

And was the voice in Eragon's head (the one that talked to him while he was unconcious just after killing the shade) is that the voice of an elf? or some other creature. isn't it interesting that whoever it was is so aware of eragon and knows exactly what's going on?

I'm thinking that in book 2 they'll steal the other two dragon eggs and find riders for them. i think the daughter of Ajihad (can't remember her name) will be one of the new riders. After all, she could talk to Saphira, couldn't she?

So many questions, so few answers so far.... I can't wait for the next book!!!

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Tuesday, 4 May 2004 00:28)

I don't think Brom was Eragon's father but he still might be (i don't have a clue who else might be other wise), also i think that Brom only lived in Carvahall for 8 year's (but i could be wrong). And i think eragon was 15 at the begening of the book.
As for eragon's special name i think that every one has a different one.

I to think that the twin's are the traitor's, i don't like them at all.

I'm not sure who or what the voice in Eragon's head was but i would like to know, because they were very aware of alot of stuff.

I think it would be very interesting if they stole the other two dragon eggs.I think that the daughter of Ajihad (can't remember her name either) would make a great rider. As for her talking to Saphira i think that Saphira can under stand human speech now and that the daughter of Ajihad just talked to Saphira(but Saphira couldn't answer her back). But i might be wrong I need to reread that part (i'm only in chapter 19(or page 134) on rereading the book so i'm not realy that far on it.).

i hope that the second book comes out soon(i need to check the wedsite again ( i haven't had time)) .

>>By BloodRayne   (Tuesday, 4 May 2004 07:29)

Howdy. I'm here. And waiting for more questions...

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Thursday, 13 May 2004 03:28)

you know the part where Solembum tells eragon two things. I wonder what kind of weapon in under the roots of the Menoa tree?(is it a new sword, or is it something else i wonder.) and as for the Vault of Souls (eragon going to like talk to like the original eragon and or other riders from the old days, or is eragon going to find some object in there?)
what do you think?
( i hope that all made sense) :)

>>By BloodRayne   (Saturday, 15 May 2004 08:56)

It didn't all quite make sense, but I think I get the jist of you're saying... i'm a little fuzzy on the details of that part of the book - I need to read it again. Is the Vault of Souls the place where all riders discover their true name? Eeek, i can't remember....

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:29)

I like Eragon too, i think the language was great, but did anyone else find it a little slow in the beginning?

>>By The Secret Amulet   (Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:21)

Welcome Secret Amulet. And yes, it was a little slow, but i thought it picked up after a bit.

Did it seem to anyone besides me that it was a little too easy to kill the shade at the end of the book?

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Friday, 28 May 2004 09:04)

I think Arogons sold for Ayra.

Eragon

>>By Lex Bloodwrath   (Tuesday, 20 Jul 2004 19:55)

I agree the book is very well written and i loved it from front to back. I have been waiting for the next book (eldest) for a long while. And i dont think they will steal the eggs in the next book and if they do not both, that would be to easy. I think in the next book there should be more emphasis on Eragon's training in magic because i think all he used in the first was the fire spell (though i may be wrong since i read the book almost a year ago). As for what girl he will end up with more could show up in the next books so it may be niether of the ones mentioned already. Also if anyone knows the name of the fire spell the real word they use to cast it please tell me.

I am about to re-read Eragon

>>By Mystic Gohan   (Wednesday, 11 Aug 2004 04:29)

fairy of shalot

If you didnt notice, Eragon didnt walk out of that fight with the shade without a scratch, i mean god, he did get practically cut in half.

>>By Mystic Gohan   (Friday, 24 Sep 2004 03:47)

I'm off the subject but i just curently rereread the book and I think Eragon and Murtagh could be brothers.
Oh and Ajihad's daughter's name is Nasuada.

>>By Cimorene   (Wednesday, 29 Sep 2004 18:15)

I can tell that the twins are the traitors. It isnt exactly hidden is it? There dislike for him is rly rly obvious. Did it say whether Eragon's mother died in the village? If It didnt then I think his mother is an elf or someone with the power of foresight otherwise how would she have known to give him a name as fitting as the name of the first dragon rider? Also I think that its great that a teenager wrote a book this good. It gives real hope to hopeful writers like me.

>>By Megano   (Thursday, 30 Sep 2004 01:39)

yes the twins are so the traitors, you can like just tell that they are evil.

>>By Cimorene   (Thursday, 30 Sep 2004 19:20)

I also think that Whats his name...er....Murtaug.... thats the one... I think he will end up saving the lives of those who had doubted his loyalty. That would be a real slap in the face for the stupid people. Does anyone know when The next book...Inheritance.... comes out?

>>By Megano   (Saturday, 2 Oct 2004 08:19)

Never mind the next book isnt inheritance but i still wnt to know when it comes out.

>>By Megano   (Saturday, 2 Oct 2004 08:21)

Let's think here... Murtagh's mom, who's name is "coincidentally" the same as Eragon's mom, just disappeared from Murtaghs life for about a year. Well, let's just say that she was pregnant and didn't want her next child to have to lead the terrible life that murtagh did, so she trotted off to her family, had the baby, named it Eragon, and then came back in order to protect the location of the new baby.

I do believe that the age difference between Eragon and Murtagh supports this theory and it would make the possibility of "betrayal by family" possible on both the part of Roran and Murtagh. Eragon even ended up with the same scar as his "brother" and inherited his fathers sword. Let's face it, the boy comes from a Dragon riding background, which also puts Murtagh in line for one of the eggs.

But how did his mother know to name him Eragon? Well she also had her fortune told by Angela and it was a sad one. Maybe she was told that she would end up with a forsworn asshole, have one kid doomed to grow up in proverbial hell, and then to have another child who was to become the first good dragonrider in over a century. Well the woman knows her history so Eragon seems like a fitting name for the second "first" dragon rider... no?

I would love to hear your opinions on this, does anyone see a flaw in my logic

>>By CheshireBat   (Sunday, 3 Oct 2004 05:38)

CheshireBat -

I haven't recently read the book - it's been a while - but from what I can recall from memory, I really don't see any flaw to your theory. The only things I'm not sure about are the fact that Murtagh's and Eragon's mother(s) have the same name and that they both have the same scar. Would you mind giving me a reference page for those? I wanna look it up. If it really is so, then it must be true that Murtagh and Eragon are brothers.

Do you think the voice at the end of the novel was that of an elf?

And Megano -

The next book, Eldest, comes out sometime next year.

>>By Fairy of Shalot   (Friday, 8 Oct 2004 22:10)

The next book is called Eldest, and i have no idea when its coming out. I have checked the Eragon website, and there is no information about it. But Murtagh could be Eragon's brother, but I just recently re-read the book and I just wanted to put my favorite quote from the book up here. "I'll fight when needed, revel when there is an occasion, mourn if there is grief, and die if my time comes...but I will let no one use me against my will." -Eragon. If anyone learns anything about Eldest coming out I really want to know.
